    Wild Cards is my favourite Joker centric episode in the DCAU.

      I do love Jokers Favor and Man Who Killed Batman but I might actually agree with wild cards the more I think about it

      eclipsed so very nearly made my honourable mentions- this is a pretty commendable list, I love that some seem to make most people's lists including mine and some that are quite unique to to you, like Paradise Lost or Warworld which aren't bad episodes by any means but they aren't ones I see on best episodes lists very often

    Back for the stuff! Again, will talk about flaws and/or chatty asides.
    10 - Surprised this isn't higher. If I have a nitpick on this, we should have had cameos featuring Metamorpho, Zatanna, Etrigan, Aquaman, Static, a modern day iteration of the Blackhawks (with perhaps a fighter ace Hal Jordan tagging along via radio comms), and even certain villains fighting back against the winged alien occupiers.
    9 - With an episode name like that, I'm always confusing this as a Batman-centric ep. Those old comics, and later animated show, have spoiled me on that matter (he has his spotlights, but he isn't the main star, nicely enough)
    8 - Gotta love the Etrigan stories, alongside tie-in comics like The Batman Adventures Annual 2. Anyways, Morgan Le Fay would have lost afterwards, since the likes of Zatanna and Doctor Fate would have intervened.
    7 - May that dimension successfully recover. They may even get their own legacy Justice Society of America when they do. Wonder if the villain was killed or rendered comatose/powerless though?
    6 - Word of advice: Season 2 of JL is better off watched in airdate order. This one works better after seeing "Wild Cards; sorry, production order. (BTW, the Kents are among the best fictional parents alongside the Furukawas from CLANNAD and the Weasleys from Harry Potter to me.)
    4:26: Don't worry. Batman's doing Watchtower monitor duty, while Wonder Woman is possibly chilling on Paradise Island, according to the showrunners.
    Honorary Mentions:
    1 - Wish they kept the Silver Age look. Barbarian Aquaman is not that charming to me. Hook hand is well touched, though. (I'll do anything to make the likes of Game of Thrones, Battlestar Galactica 2003, and How I Met Your Mother be forgotten by the annals of time.)
    2 - Actually, the training bots look more like Zeta from his sole, and in my opinion only, appearance in Batman Beyond. Anyhow, I wonder if Killer Frost is the same person as a certain Gotham Girls adversary...
    3 - Now this is a favorite. They better have killed the Old One though, not rendered it neutered for several centuries or so. (Really says something that the Marvel's Defenders TV series is nowadays forgotten, while this animated three-parter still has its vocal fans.)
    8:33: Is it really? Mayhaps I'll try to watch this someday with an open mind.
    5 - So good, it seemed to have highly influenced Captain America: The First Avenger (a chosen favorite MCU film, though it pales compared to the far better The Winter Soldier; that aside, try comparing John Stewart's race to Vandal Savage's superjet with Steve Rogers' own race to Red Skull's superjet) and Wolfenstein: The New Order (one notable event mentioned in that game is the utter Allied curbstomp defeat that is D-Day).
    4 - Now this ep was a whammy, since the villain's former beau perished, all while her more deserving new love had to be last seen being morose and unable to do anything for her... poor guy.
    3 - The Joker should have been rendered permanently vegetative in the end. Would have saved so much lives and effort. Regardless, love how this sets up so many things in Batman Beyond like the Royal Flush Gang's implied origins to the importance of the name of Ace for a certain good bad dog.
    2 - Wish we got more Vandal Savage afterwards, but the way I see it, seeing the past (The Savage Time), present (Maid of Honor), and future (this two-parter) is extremely fitting for him regardless. Shame the chrono nonsense had to end with universe erasure. Not a fan of that kind of endgame (though Hereafter's is still tear-jerkingly neat), what with the Terminator films and The Legend of Zelda games working like a charm via Multiverse Theory caused by time interloping. (In the meantime, Lobo really is a gem there, Deadshot implyingly becoming "The Man Who Killed Batman" in the bad future is very intriguing, and love Batman's aside about "the never-ending battle".)
    1 - Like S: TAS' "Brave New Metropolis", wish we got a sequel showing what happened to the alternate universe and the depowered Justice Lords, and if only the Crisis on Two Earths film stayed as the JL and JLU interquel Worlds Collide. (And in a grim sidenote, I'm slowly but surely sympathizing with the Lords more, for many justified reasons.)

    Starcrossed should be ranked higher. You didn't even touch on the love triangle with Green Lantern Hawk Girl and Rotalik. That was a masterpiece within it's own story telling

      yeah I wanted to keep them fairly concise (although I guess the point about characterisation and dynamics covers it somewhat)

    Better World may have been a inspiration for Injustice, but the episode is far superior than the video game in many aspects:
    - The Justice Lord's costumes are far more creative and memorable than the Injustice ugly armor.
    - Luthor becoming the president and almost causing a nuclear war is much better motivation for the Justice Lords to want to take over Earth (to prevent any other villain to being elect and repeting this incident) than Joker killing Lois, which feels more like a personal factor, that would affect only Superman.
    - The potrayal of the Justice Lord's world and goverment was much more clever than Injustice. Instead of another dystopia world (with cloudy sky and nazi troopers on the streets) the Justice Lord's world is more clean and quiet. It looks nice at sight but as the episode develops it shows the mess up stuff (exemple: Arkham Asylum may look normal hospital but the inmates were lobotomized by Superman and became his slaves).
    - The ideological conflict between the JL and the Justice Lords is more consistent. In Injustice game, most of the dialogue is just about kiling or not the villains and Injustice Superman, despite the tragedy is his backstory, acts more like mustache villain who only cares about recognition. The Justice Lords on other hand are more misguided, beliving that the ends are justified and that they are "helping" the Justice League world by taking over. They didn't even tried to kill the Justice League when they captured them bc they belive they will "thank them later". Plus they have more arguments to defend their ideology than just "villains are irredemable so they must die".
    - The way the Justice League defeats the Justice Lords is much more clever than the "super hero vs evil version" brawl we got from the game, with Superman defeating the Justice Lord by making a hard decision that will have consequences but doesn't sacrifice Superman's moral values.

    • @PlayCONtent
      @PlayCONtent  5 місяців тому +1

      you're definitely right about the Justice Lords motivation being better and how Lois being killed should only affect Superman to that extent (and about the costumes- not that I dislike the Injustice armour but these costumes definitely look better to me)

      As an aside, how do they compare to similar works like, hmm, the original Squadron Supreme comics?

    • @alexandrefrauches132
      @alexandrefrauches132 4 місяці тому

      @@michaelandreipalon359 I feel Squadron Supreme was the best execution of this story. Despite the questionable actions, most of the character are very understanble, they feel regret and reflect about their actions. Each one of them shows the potential to redeem themselves.
      Even Hyperon and Darkhawk (basically the Superman and Batman of the group) despite being on opposite sides (similar to Injustice) they don't become enemies. When they met, while everybody else is fighting, they try to talk and understand each other.

      Not as dirty as Mr. Freeze in his later appearances. Besides, his death was as necessary as Batman becoming more ruthless and dispassionate post-B: TAS.

      yeah I think it is for a few people, I like how the numer 1 pick balances more characters so it feels slightly more like a Justice League story (of course they're both Justice League stories anyway, but hopefully that makes sense)

      Vandal Savage redeeming himself after being alone for like 30,000 years was a great moment.
