+MRrwmac The On Screen Display is pretty much self-explanatory, you just have to get used to how this thing wants to have EVERYTHING confirmed on the screen. Example, you put some new paper in the drawer and the printer wants you to confirm what you just did by hitting OK on the screen...
I used to dislike Epson inkjet printers because instead of putting the print head on the ink cartridge (so you'd get a new print head every time you replaced the ink), the print heads are built into the mechanism, so the printer needs to waste a lot of ink trying to clean them... but now HP inkjet printers are the same way! And on the latest HP models, they don't even give you an easy way to take out the print heads to clean them -- you have to disassemble pretty much the entire printing mechanism to get to them. But that's what happens when they make the printers cheaper than the ink!
That's really too bad! I bought the old HP because the print heads were part of the cartridge. On the Epson they are part of the machine, and that's the only concern I have so far, that those things might not last for very long. But a similar HP model would have been considerably more expensive, and I couldn't tell for sure if or if not the print heads were part of the machine...
With canon printers at least in my canon pixma mg 5250 you can easily remove the print head. That's why I bought it but the problem is, that whenever the printer stays like a week without use, somehow the connections between the print head and the printer will become unconductive. Then the printer won't print red, blue, yellow or black the right way. The problem is easy to solve by removing the print head by lifting a spring loaded "lever" up and pulling the print head out of it's socket. Then you just need to rub the contact points to your shirt or something and put the print head back to it's place. You may also manually clean the print head. But there's another problem. When removing the print head, you will always need to align the printhead again automatically or manually and that wastes ink, well not very much but anyways. Good about this printer is, that you can refill the ink cartridges yourself, or by going to a refill shop. In the shop if you want refilled black, pigmented black, yellow, blue and red refilled, the whole set costs about 25-30€. I think that's relatively cheap.
Benjami Lindqvist I'll try a Canon next time. The contact issue happened with a Kodak also, replacement head did not fix it so it must be the contacts in the printer but those seem very spiky and not at all easy to clean? Also it is dark in there. Perhaps a new Canon will or will not suffer the same problem, there is always something broken with these printers!
Benjami Lindqvist Canon is amazing. From a photographers stand, Canon and Epson are the only way to go. Their print heads last forever in comparison. Actually, there is no comparison between Epson and Canon vs Kodak, HP, etc. I'd never own one of those. I'd consider a Brother but that is the lowest in quality I'd go. lol
I have a few questions about this printer. Is this still inkjet? Also, is this one of the printers that can be used with sublimation dyes? Can I use it to print on transparency sheets? Thank you!
Looks great! Is there such a thing as a printer that doesn't make it's owner angry after a year? I just gave up owning a printer :(. Use the laser at work but I am glad they have improved the ink.
Printers can be quite frustrating and the HP sure has taken some kicks and punches over the years. For most of my printing I use laser printers that I have access to, so this is not going to get any kind of heavy use. I was mostly interested in the duplex scanner part of this.
DrCassette Duplex scanning and printing is one of my favourite features too and the automatic document feeder :) I especially like the high speed ones featured on very expensive photocopiers!
I bought this exact same printer and was wondering how soon I would need to purchase ink? In other words, how many sheets will the ink that was supplied with the printer pring? Costco has the ink, reasonably priced.
So I have a MacBook Air and I am looking for a printer as I move into college. Is there anyone that can help? I mean I'm new to the printer world and all so yea....
Jonathan Rudamas I guess an all-in-one inkjet unit would be just right for you. But you better go with something MUCH smaller than this Epson, it is huge and really takes up way too much space in my little studio apartment :D
The problem with lifting the scanner and having the door for the special docs feed open is ludicrous. That's a deal breaker for me. How did that bye the quality control department?
Thanks. I was wondering how you thought ink consumption was compared to say the canon or brother of similar cost and model? Many reports I read suggest the canon prints well but uses a lot of ink within a short time frame.
In the past i found epson inkjet printers monstrously noisy and not so much reliable, in fact i keep away from buying one of this brand! This WorkForce seems to have plenty of useful feature, but, will last? Another problem of these printers is the huge waste of cartridges...considering their price... Maybe a colour laser printer would been a better purchase, especially over the years...
I had an Epson printer myself and it was indeed unreliable! I've ended up smashing it! Now i own a Canon printer and it seems to work just fine so far...
A colour laser would be better, however, I don't have a seperate office room and I don't want to have the fine dust laser printers create in my livingroom/bedroom, so at this point laser is just not an option.
Yes, EPSON printers are known to be quite wasteful when it comes to the ink. I would have liked to get another HP, but a model with features similar to what this Epson has was about 260€! The Epson was 180€ which was already much more than I wanted to pay initially. For most of my printing I have access to laser printers, to be honest, I was mostly interested in the scanner part of this ;)
Printers.....the big money pit of computers. Buy the printer, buy the ink and then buy the paper.....sometimes you'll run out of paper before you run out of ink and sometimes you run out of ink before running out of paper or you'll run out of ink in the middle of a print with no replacement ink laying around. I really do think printers these days are getting too advanced for their own good. They don't need a touch screen and firmware updates. Their functions are to print (and in some cases, scan, fax and copy).
Finally! Someone actually demonstrating printer features. The number of people just unboxing and no demo, SMH.
Nice record collection! Thanks for the info. You've helped a lot with my decision on which workforce to buy.
Good review. You covered all the functions I was concerned with except the on screen touch functions. But I will do those myself. Thanks.
+MRrwmac The On Screen Display is pretty much self-explanatory, you just have to get used to how this thing wants to have EVERYTHING confirmed on the screen. Example, you put some new paper in the drawer and the printer wants you to confirm what you just did by hitting OK on the screen...

I agree too! The heads get dirty and damaged and getting the part is a lot more inconvenient than a new cartridge.
That's really too bad! I bought the old HP because the print heads were part of the cartridge. Could you select what tray you would like to print from?
Yes, there is a choice in the print menu.
when scrolling in the menu, you do not have to use the up down arrows you can scroll like regular touch screen...
have a problem setting up the 3640 for printing business cards...setting up the tray for the right Avery cards.
Happy new year Drcassette
Great review!
would you know how to set the copy mode as one sided only as default? Right now the default is one side to 2 sided.
I bought this exact same printer and was wondering how soon I would need to purchase ink? In other words, how many sheets will the ink that was supplied with the printer pring? Costco has the ink, reasonably priced.
+Sheila Bullock The ink cartridges delivered along with the unit don't last that long, 50 - 100 pages I guess.
+DrCassette Thank you so much. I'll order some. Where can I buy it cheap and which one should I buy if I don't print that often? I'm in the USA.
Have you considered buying compatible cartridges? They are WAY cheaper than the original Epson one's.
How much did you pay for this beautiful work of art?
+Matthew Buick
270 € if I remember correctly.
Not bad! :-)
$99.00 at best buy
jspreezy thats cheap how much full ink set
I'm trying to get this printer to grab the envelope in the back, but it's not taking it. How can I print an envelope?
+Ileana Vega
In the settings menu, choose the backside tray. The automatic selection (default) does not detect anything in the back for some reason.
Thank you so very much!!!! Hopefully, that'll work :)
this video was really helpful thanks a lot
Im trying to connect this printer with the pc to the wifi but it doesnt work ?
+FraKy FraKy call Epson. They helped me.

Ich würde niemals Tinte von Fremdherstellern verwenden. Einen Drucker habe ich mir damit schon versaut, das reicht.
You didn’t explain how to connect to the WiFi or enter WiFi password or I missed it somehow
You didn't miss anything, as I connected the printer via USB.
Does anyone know how to add A3 as an option to print? We cannot select it. Only letter, photo, A4 options for some reason
A3 is too big for this printer. It won't fit physically.
DrCassette yes thanks. I thought this was the wf 7620 they look similar
Yes
are those records in the back of the box?
Correct, in the background is a part of my record collection.
How can I get it to print high quality prints they are still hazy
+Skylar Esmon Set the Print Quality to 'High' or 'Strong' in the menu. That's about as good as it gets...
So I have a MacBook Air and I am looking for a printer as I move into college. Is there anyone that can help? I mean I'm new to the printer world and all so yea....

I bought it yesterday and I'm trying to copy smthing now but the sheet comes like it was, nothing copied
Can it do Id cards ?
I don't think so.
The problem with lifting the scanner and having the door for the special docs feed open is ludicrous. That's a deal breaker for me. How did that bye the quality control department?
It is an annoying design flaw, that's right!
Does this unit do a single pass duplex scan from the ADF, and does the unit self clean from time to time ?
Yes, it does both these things.
Thanks. I was wondering how you thought ink consumption was compared to say the canon or brother of similar cost and model? Many reports I read suggest the canon prints well but uses a lot of ink within a short time frame.

I had a Canon printer years ago before I got the old HP, and I had nothing but problems with that piece of junk!
DrCassette
Printers don't last nowadays ;)
Otto R lol cannon is big company they have cameras
Here goes your ink down the drain. :)
