You know it's bad when somebody says East St Louis is safer. Great video, I especially enjoyed the little bit of narration.

The Chicago & Alton's (B&0) Chicago to St. Louis line then became the Gulf Mobile & Ohio which lasted until the 1970s when the Illinois Central Railroad merged with the GM&O in the 1970s. I grew up in Willow Springs Illinois near the former GM&O Chicago to St. Louis line and saw locomotives still in GM&O paint in the 1980s as a kid. =^.^=

In future videos, I hope you do more narrations and history--that was really interesting. That map overlay was awesome to see.

Thank you for filming this. I remember when this round house was still in use, just before the round house was abandoned. I remember when the railroad took up the track and the turning mechanism that would enable the train engines to go into the bays of the roundhouse. I’ve always wanted to walk through here, but was too afraid I might have a dangerous encounter with others. It’s a shame that the building has deteriorated like it has.

loved the history and background. I've often wondered about the history behind other locations you've done. I hope this is something you'll do in the future.

Very awesome and professional looking video. I really enjoyed the narration of this video, keep it up. The graffiti added a lot more character to the building, thank you for sharing.

Well that wasn't as hard as I thought it would be to find on Google maps not that I'd have anywhere near enough courage to go to it.

I like the map overlays and history.
Not much is left of E.St.L. Population was 85,000++at one point in the ‘60’s . Now it is barely 25,000, and still declining.

I BEEN HERE Q COUPLE OF TIMES. PHOTOGRAPHED AND DOCUMENTED IT .
    QUESTION:
I HAVE BEEN LOOKING ON GOOGLE MAPS AT A SIGHT THAT IS A BUILDING LIKE A HORSE BARN THAT IS COMPLETELY SHROUDED IN TREES, BUT ON THE GROUND I CAN NEVER FIND IT. DO YOU KNOW WHAT IT IS? I'M SURE IS WAS IN SOME WAY CONNECTED TO THE STOCKYARDS

+ScrubLordCasual I grew up there and never had any problems, so...it's really not that bad. The city has a lot of history.

    • @coolbeansdotorg

I totally understand. I heard it a lot in high school (in Belleville). There are areas that I wouldn't walk alone at night in, but overall the city isn't bad. It just looks bad and the mayor never did anything about it. East St. Louis is a decent sized city, but from the highway it's understandable to consider it horrible by the looks of it.

Well,........hello. Coming from East Saint Louis, yes, a lot has changed, and yes, it is safer than Saint Louis, MO. East Saint Louis gets a bad rap. Almost everyday, Saint Louis is on the news about violence and crime in the city. Their yearly crime rate is ridiculous. You could walk down the street in East Saint Louis, and nothing happens. Saint Louis, MO, be prepared to get robbed. I am so sick of people talking about how bad East Saint Louis is. The only bad, is the lack of jobs and opportunities. Between the 60’s and 80’s, all the white owned businesses left, and the blacks who came from the south (and the Jim Crow laws) and no jobs at the time. Therefore, the economy fell flat, and hopeless. Come on people, we know that every urban neighborhood went through the same thing. Instead of recording, build s business here. Create, not degrade!
