  • I've taking a pause from hunting with the self bow after 2 misses at close range. A surprise trophy 10 point buck has just showed up on the cameras and I'm attempting to tree stand hunt this mature deer with my compound bow.

Some advice. Never, and I mean ever, go to a stand in the middle of season to check it no matter what time without taking your bow. Been there done that and had my prize buck follow me to the stand and there I was, no camo on, no weapon, and he stared at me from 20yrds.

If I had to guess, if you were sighted in with your wise choice release and shot from the rifle tower with your wrist release the difference between the way the two releases open can change your impact point so that could have been the reason why your arrow hit right

Paper tune that bow, basically build a wood frame 2 ft by 2 ft and elevate it, staple some paper on the front of it,make sure you have a back stop, place it about 6 ft in front of the back stop, then when you practice the paper will tell you when you shoot the deflection of your arrow, may it be left or right or up and down which then tells you how to adjust your sights or rest

Take this with grace from a fellow hunter and as someone who has been helped by you when my father in law dealt with brain cancer, please wear a safety harness while up in a stand. I know people personally (in my family and among my friends) who have suffered bad injuries from stand incidents. Your health and longevity isn’t something to risk when you’ve got a family waiting for you at home.
Keep on persevering, it is a long season. Those who endure to the end, often yield positive results from their efforts. Keep it up LFG!

I woke up this morning to let my dog out, not thinking about it and there were 2 good size deer about 20 yards off of my front porch. There's definitely some shooters getting around out there.
I still seriously think the you and Mike should look into getting a hog trap. Personally I like the big panel traps. Remote camera so you can observe the hogs behavious and then you can remotr drop the trap from an app on your phone/tablet. Drop it then turn up the next morning with a trailer and a rifle and clean out the hogs. Rebait, reset, repeat. Some states/counties have subsidy programmes for property owners to buy and/or rent the traps.
Check out channels like Yawt Yawt or Hollis Farms for good examples.

Another good tip I learned is take an old sock and put baking powder in it and tie a knot, when you get ready for a hunt you pat yourself down with it which will help with scent control and also if you hold it up and tap it also a wind direction indicator, you can also store a box of it with your hunting clothes which helps with scent control and moisture

Love your videos. Hey, LFG, there are 2 product's that I use for scent elimination. 1 I have been using for about 40 years. It's called Cover Up. It masks human odor and also attracts game. It has a pleasant Vanilla smell. We have used it successfully, to the point where a friend of my father's killed while smoking cigarettes and using Cover Up. The other is a new product, called Camo Dust. It's a powder in a sock that you tap on yourself. It prevents odor from forming. It works great. I suggest you try them.

That Buck likely pegged you reaching up to zoom the camera it seems, it definitely looked like he was looking right at you. As far anyone wanting to hammock camp, don't sleep with your feet and head pointing directly at each end of the hammock. If you've bought the right hammock it should be big enough to sleep in a X pattern. Your feet will be off to one side of the attachment ring and the other end your head will be on the opposite side of the attachment ring.
This allows your body to be much closer to flat.
