I like both. I just love turning all the house lights off and turning the Christmas tree lights on. I get such a feeling of nostalgia when I do that. As for prelit, I can take it or leave it. The one thing I dislike is flocked. It's just so messy. I hope you all have a great Christmas season. Take care.
Love either set of lights. We have a pre-lit tree because as much as I adore lights, especially with other lights off, is hanging them and taking them down 😂
That is one reason I love your channel so much: your genuine enthusiasm for cooking! Lots of content creators have become so arbitrary by promising the simplest, fastest and yummiest recipes all the time. It‘s great to have people like you, who are really passionate about their content and can motivate and inspire others!
That is a really good point. I feel Rachel Ray taught me how to cook. My mom was convivence food queen! And we give her a pass because her childhood was on a farm and they grew, picked, cooked, canned, hatched ALL their own food. Twice a year she got a Hershey bar when her dad went to town to sell the cows. That was the only purchased food they ever had!
I love your tradition with giving the kids an ornament each year and being a new mum this year, I have adopted that tradition. This year I went to the pottery painting place and painted his footprint on an ornament to remember his first Christmas ♥️ Also to me it feels like we went from spring to Christmas over night so your decor match my perception of this year 😂😍
I was excited to see you put out your vlogmas video. Always fun. Makes me smile and you always make me chuckle. "Cheese Chaser"..... Then we have a Murphy and Milo cameo. They should be in each and every vlogmas video this year. Thank you so much for sharing the Long John Silver's recipe and dinner. I do have a "Jen tab" for saved recipes in my recipe notebook. Looking forward to the rest of the month with you. Thanks for sharing a video, spending some time with us, and giving us tips along the way. You are appreciated! Take care, see you soon. ⛄
I cooked all through my kids childhood and now teen years and I am confident they can name most if not all fruits and veggies, I made a point to take them shopping with me and letting them pick new things to try. My 16 year old prefers baking over cooking but she can make an amazing homemade pesto and Mac and cheese.
Great video Jen. You had me laughing out loud a few times. The first was when you were tasting the whiskey and had to follow it up with a cheese chaser. That would have been me as well. The other time was when Milo clearly was not having you pet Murphy. What a funny boy. I think cooking from fresh ingredients is becoming a lost art. Parents are either trying to make ends meet and are doing the best they can so that may mean more pre packaged foods. Also, people are exhausted after working all day. They don’t have the energy or time to cook from scratch. Plus, schools cut our home economics (at least in Canada they did).
YES! Cooking is becoming a lost art. I cook EVERY night. It is amazing how many people eat out or convenience food daily. When my daughter's friends come for dinner, they think it is the best thing ever even if it is a simple meal. And I bake often. My daughter would rather have homemade. And kids do not have a clue about healthy foods and produce. They have no clue where food comes from.
Respect for you for always showing the dogs as family....Other people have them in the video but never pet or talk to their animals! Koodles to you !!!
Your decorations look so nice. I also love your lantern. A good video to watch before i go to sleep. I work night shift. So thanks for sharing Jen. Have a great week.
I haven’t got notifications for your channel in a long while😢 I enjoy the colored lights! I would put them all on anyways😅 Marry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family!! First time seeing your new puppy!!
I grew up in a cooking household, because we were poor and my mom worked as a kitchen cook/manager my whole childhood. We still had a bunch of random things to heat and eat, esp during the summer when both parents were out working and we fended for ourselves all day (ahhh the late 80s/early nineties haha). Both of my sisters and I love to cook, and my 20 year old prefers to bake but also enjoys cooking. My 18 year old on the other hand… the easier the better. 😅
Hi Jen, we are a cooking from scratch family. My grandson is starting to learn now and my granddaughter is becoming really good. When she’s has a question she texts me and we chat. To be fair her mum and her dad (my son) were both good cooks. Love your vlogmas and seeing your dogs. Thanksgiving was so interesting. We don’t have it in Australia. Next holiday Christmas. Yay. Best wishes from Australia.
I feel like a lot of teenagers won't know what fresh produce is anyway, lol, but I do agree that cooking at home is not really a thing anymore cause my kid's friends will come over eat dinner and they always say that their parents never cook or sit down at the table to eat and that's just wild to me that so many say this.
My mother cooked every night of my life til I left home at 17. I really didn't know how to cook much. I remember not really learning how til I had to feed myself and a 1 yo kiddo! Did I cook well? Nope! But, we didn't die! Lol! But sometimes I didn't know what something was and was afraid to ask so I just winged it! But most of my learning has come with the advent of PBS's cooking shows! Justin Wilson, Julia Child, and Yan Can Cook!!!! I learned a lot and have been working on my skills to this day! I'm 74 now and just taught my niece how to make greens this year! But, my bestie taught me and was so proud to share it with her!
The ornaments for the kids is such a cute and fun idea 😊 my grandma used to give me and my brother a Santa figurine every Christmas and honestly I don’t think I’ve bought any Christmas decorations as an adult cause I already have plenty
I sure hope not cooking and knowing what fresh veggies are isnt a new thing. We definitely are a cooking family and I grew up with gardens and my kids are getting that same experience. My 12 year old takes homemade bread to share with his friends and that cracks me up!
I feel your pain with the lights. I love my tree but the preflight lights died. I spent. 4 hours during the packer game and after wire cutting mine off. It only took me 2 strands after to re light it up. Happy holidays 😊
Yes, Rachael Ray and her garbage bowl. I use that hack all the time. I remember her always calling it the “GB” lol thank you for vlogmas! Never expected but always appreciated
Yes, I believe complete homemade food cooking is a lost art. I’m a cookbook queen. I grew up with my grandma canning and grandparents and my mom cooking from scratch. We actually went to a Thanksgiving, this year, where the stuffing was boxed, gravy was canned, rolls were bought. It was fine and we enjoyed it. I brought pies and I was asked if my crust was from scratch. Yes, I’m in my pie baking era right now. My own daughter rarely makes much food from scratch. I’m a huge baker and my child is not. It makes me sad. She has never had an interest. Who will inherit my thousands of cookbooks!?! lol 😂
Thank you for sharing Keira guessing the produce, that freaking made my day. 😅 I think Keira meant the green onion looked like chives, not basil. (I’ve got your back Kiera) Cooking is definitely a lost art!!!
Hi Jen, I just read my first comment, sorry for all the misspellings, this system just puts down what they think you want to say. I am not a great speller, but I am not usually that bad. I am slowly getting my decorations out. It will be done by this weekend. Wow! Advent Calendars have come a long way since I was a kid in the 50’s and 60’s. Great video Jen.❤️
Do you use and recommend a certain invisible fence for your dogs? I notice you can just let them out without a chain. I need a better option for my doggies.
My 12 year old thought the green onions were chives (pretty close) and knew what the radishes were even though I almost never buy them, I think because she likes to get them from the salad bar.
I feel like your daughter humbled you a little bit with the green onions 😂 lol I don’t know if my kids would know the radishes I don’t buy them often 🤷🏻♀️ I’ll have to text them 😂
From what I hear from other people, not as many people “cook” these days. People act like it’s a big deal when I make homemade meatballs. 😂 As for the cashier, times have changed from when I worked in a grocery store in high school. We were tested on the produce before we were allowed to work a register. I remember having to study the types of lettuce because my parents only had iceberg lettuce when I was growing up. I didn’t know what the heck endive and radicchio were. 😂
Probably a stupid question but what do you do with your oil after you have used it? Do you throw it away or reuse? If you throw it away how do you discard it? Love your tips.
Also Jen, I made peanut butter pie for the first time. It was a hit! I've been on keto and lost 50lbs. Of course I have cheated a little but the carbs immediately make me feel exhausted. One more thing, did you come to my hometown of Chicago to see the Rolling Stones? No disappointment there.
Yessss. Another one! It's alllll coming together. And so beautifully too! I love how you're showing us the real chaos and how to make the most out of every tiny moment when time is limited. Thank you for brightening up my day! Can't wait to see how you continue to make the holidays festive!🌲
I just made less food. Put half the turkey breast,in the freezer, I will made green chili enchiladas, later on. I am in the mood for chili ,it's getting colder.
I’m your age and I don’t have time!! Married with 2 teenagers and I still work 2 jobs one until 430 and start the next at 5 😓 hubby works until 7. I try to buy things that are easy go tos for my family or make a big meal twice a week and do leftovers. I wish I could cook more I absolutely love it!! 😔
My mom hated to cook. Generally speaking, meat was always way overdone. Like not just dry it was often black. Pasta wasn't served unless it was velveeta mac and cheese or if it was the 2x per year giant spaghetti pot. We primarily had mashed or baked potatoes with some sort of meat and a canned veggie (corn, creamed corn, peas, or green beans) Breakfast for dinner (eggs, a meat, toast) was like the special treat of the week. Lunches were always a sandwich with chips. Breakfast was always cereal. Only fruit we had would either come in a can or it would be bananas. When I became a teen and got into cooking we finally started having a little more variety with different pasta dishes. I also introduced my parents to enchiladas. I didn't try broccoli until I was 18!
My parents made spaghetti, burgers, chicken breasts, homemade mashed potatoes, that sort of thing. They also did Hamburger Helper, frozen pizzas, etc. I was not exposed to a lot of flavor profiles as my dad is the pickiest eater I have truly ever met. I love cooking and trying new recipes as an adult so I think my kids are exposed to a lot more than I was growing up.
My boys are older and U grow a huge garden so they better be able to identify a radish and green onions. I cook a lot from scratch. I always have but I am not above some convenience items for sure. I mean I am not a food snob so we have frozen foods available. My boys friends all enjoy eating at my house especially the ones whose mothers are not good at or don’t have the time to cook like I do. Although, because I cook from scratch with real ingredients and have been most of my life I don’t find it anymore time consuming to cook that way. I will say meal planning makes it easier in my opinion. I’m not rigid with the plan but it does let me know I have all the necessary ingredients for a meal.
Can you post the information about the new camera please? Is your sister going to start her channel? I haven’t seen her dinner pictures. I did remember she just moved. Looking forward to your next video.❤️
My mother cooked with fresh, my MIL cooked with fresh ingredients, so did I. But....my kids would say "there is nothing to eat". We kept Kraft mac and cheese, canned chili and hot dogs all the time. I still prefer fresh, especially vegs. Funny story about the radishes!
Hi Jen❤ yes I kind of do think “cooking” is becoming a lost art. I feel that at least my kids have certain things that they would like to eat instead of my actually cooking for them. They usually pop open the freezer and ask me to put something in the oven for them. My kids aren’t familiar with everything but then they also know other types of foods that I never heard of. My son would rather eat a gyro off a food truck than me frying up pork chops. I think I spoiled my sons with a lot of fast food places when they were young too, because it was just easier and I was exhausted.
I think people don’t cook as much anymore because of time. We’re all over scheduled with work and everything else life brings. I don’t even have kids but the only reason I cook and eat healthy is I do food prep on Sundays for the week ahead.
Girl! The veggie/fruit issue at the grocery store has happened more than once when I've gone shopping, it's shocking to me. I do see that fast food is more the norm these days though 😢
OMG if you want to engage me, this talk is interesting. i am way older but the other thing is people may make their kids meals from scratch but they're not teaching them how to cook or having them doing anything, knowing ingredients, etc. It's like cleaning their room or anything else. It may seem like being such a helpful providing mom or parent, but they are learning no life skills, gaining no knowledge. Do they need it? Not necessarily but all should know how to survive without electricity, convenience foods, a computer, a car, a calculator even, all sorts of things. Not anything anyone wants but it can happen. I was baking by some single digit age and prepping supper, could cook the basics. Like will happen to you, it's hard to understand further generations, it happens to us all eventually. My thing the last decades even was fast food employees not knowing to put a napkin in a bag. These days I watch a cooking channel that she does her kids lunches a lot as one of her weeklies, I won't name her and most probably wouldn't know of her, it's not a big channel but really like her and the nicest kids, etc. But she only sends a napkin with them when they have like syrup or something messy. To me I never not have a napkin, and I mean just a paper one, with any meal and my kids were brought up that way, just like wearing a seat belt. Is a napkin an extra unneeded thing nowadays??? This kind of subject coiuld lead to a lot of discussion lol. We havve a meatloaf pan and a popcorn bowl as to your other. The dog brought the meatloaf pan home LOL. Seriously. Carried it from the neighbors probably, probably found something in it outside and grabbed it. It became one of our best loved pans through our childhood and of my mom's. it was well made for its day. Also had a popcorn pan. Etc. AS far as I'm concerned, you are touching on every viewer talking of these kinds of things. Of all ages. Guaranteed your parents had way more convenience foods than my folks had access to but even then yours were not the convenience foods of today. Meaning one may still need to open a box or a can lol. I'm just saying it's a good road to talk of that all can relate to I think. Your last one too was good and touched on this kind of thing. Older recipes, etc. Kudos for it. I could go on and on but will stop. My kids who are 30s and 40s (early) know their foods. and ingredients. That's one thing I did right. And know how to cook. Also aren't picky eaters.
My kids are excellent cooks, pilots my boys married girls that did not know how to cook when they got married, they know now though! We cook every meal at home because restaurants can't even begin to be good enough fir us
On the food question. We all grew up with processed things, but we cooked too. I think it has a lot to do with the parents not bringing the kids in on the cooking process. I am not sure why. It's not because of work because my mom worked and went to school and still taught us things. I think it is just a shift in attitude. I don't understand people who say they can't cook. Anyone can cook, you just have to put time into it.
You both are so adorable 🥰 The idea of knowing where and how your meals are put together ( the frozen foods isle has turned into four since the 80s!) Definitely a lost art. Don't know the vegetables, herbs or even cuts of meat. No home economics at schools and latch key set ups and daycares where are you going to learn about the food you eat.
Re: the cooking is a "lost art" - an important factor you're leaving out is that you're an elder Millennial/almost Gen Xer...when we were in school, we still had Home Ec and/or Family & Consumer Sciences. We were taught in school some basic cooking skills. We also had our grandparents (silent Gen) teaching us how to scratch cook because they watched us a lot. Kids these days, born to Mid and Early Millennials, don't have that privilege because those Millennials have to work **constantly** in order to keep up with bills. We're tired...so we rely on those ready made meals a LOT more than our Stay-At-Home-Mom Boomer parents...who DON'T watch their grandkids (even though they dumped us off all the time to their parents). Home Ec/FCS has been eliminated from most schools to put more emphasis on reading and math so they can hit the Standardized testing metrics (don't even get me started on how much of a money grab all of these Standardized tests are...) It's all part of a long-game set up by the Republican party to dismantle the rounded education to make people more stupid and helpless and be able to think less critically. It's really not hard to make those connections.
I do think that cooking with fresh ingredients is becoming a lost art. We as families are more busy than decades past. That is just my opinion based on my circle of family and friends though.
Home cooking is a lost art😖, too much prepared food available nowadays and also most women work out of the home and it’s so easy to use prepared food , it’s really a shame, truly😒
I get a fennel bulb every week. My bf likes it to snack on when he comes home for lunch. But, the store clerk will always ask what it is and what to do with it. And they don’t know the difference between cilantro and parsley.
Don’t get me wrong, love watching you for years but do you realize how many times you say “like” (specifically your talk after shopping at HyVee)? I recently had a talk with my grandson who was doing this…he wasn’t aware and has gotten a lot better about it.
Do you like white or colored lights on your tree? Do you like pre-lit trees? I hate them! LOL :)
We have a pre-lit tree because as much as I adore lights, especially with other lights off, is hanging them and taking them down 😂
Colored because my 2 year old loves it 😊
I refuse to buy a pre-lit tree just for the fact that I might have to deal with the bulbs going out 😂
I like the color lights. Never get pre-lit trees, learned that the hard way too.

I have never related to anything said on the internet more than “I need a cheese chaser.” 😂
Loved this video Jen..thank you for showing us all your decorations..I totally enjoyed seeing them...another great video ❤
I take my normal decorations down to put up the Christmas and I just store them in the Christmas tubs.
I was excited to see you put out your vlogmas video. Always fun. Makes me smile and you always make me chuckle. "Cheese Chaser"..... Then we have a Murphy and Milo cameo. Your decorations look so nice. I also love your lantern. A good video to watch before i go to sleep. I work night shift. So thanks for sharing Jen. Have a great week.
I laughed at Keira thinking of the pictures. I think she meant to say “chives” lol
I haven’t got notifications for your channel in a long while😢
I enjoy the colored lights!
I would put them all on anyways😅
Marry Christmas 🎄 to you and your family!!
First time seeing your new puppy!!
Colored lights on the tree are more nostalgic to me.

I cook homemade 5 out of 7 days of the week so hopefully I’m helping to keep cooking from scratch alive 🧡
In Keira's defense, perhaps she was thinking of fennel, which is both a vegetable and an herb! 😊
Thank you, Jen! 🎄
I found through Zachary Michael and I’m loving your channel!!
Thank you bestie! 🩷
Vlogmas idea--. I think you got a new refrigerator in the last six months. We need a clean out and tour video.
15:05 I've started using a garbage bowl! Because of Rachel Ray! ❤️
The ornaments for the kids is such a cute and fun idea 😊 my grandma used to give me and my brother a Santa figurine every Christmas and honestly I don’t think I’ve bought any Christmas decorations as an adult cause I already have plenty

I need to make the LJS fish recipe for my hubby, he’s such a fan, but there’s not a location near us. He loves extras “crumbs”😊
Yes those are the best 😂😂
I feel your pain with the lights. I love my tree but the preflight lights died. I spent. 4 hours during the packer game and after wire cutting mine off. It only took me 2 strands after to re light it up. Happy holidays 😊
Sending love from Manchester England love your channel been watching for years xx🌲🤶🏻☃️
Yes, Rachael Ray and her garbage bowl. I use that hack all the time. I remember her always calling it the “GB” lol thank you for vlogmas! Never expected but always appreciated
I put canned corn and green onions in my fritter batter.

Yes I do believe that home cooking is becoming the way of the dinosaur when I was younger everything was home made 😅
I have a designated deviled egg bowl. Rachel got me with the garbage bowl too!
Thank you.
Yum-i like the turkey/sage thinger from Starbucks👍🏻
My mom and I cooked together every night but we never used radishes or green onion 🤷🏼♀️
Fair!
Omg I didn’t know the pie pan lid hack!

Love Vlogmas, but be careful not to take on so much that you get overwhelmed. If you post everyday..... great. If not, we're still here for you. ❤

For fish I discard it. I just cool it then pour it into a ziploc and throw it out.
I cook from scratch all the time. We raise our own meat and can our garden produce, but there has never been a radish in my house😅
Also Jen, I made peanut butter pie for the first time. It was a hit!

They also did Hamburger Helper, frozen pizzas, etc. I was not exposed to a lot of flavor profiles as my dad is the pickiest eater I have truly ever met. I love cooking and trying new recipes as an adult so I think my kids are exposed to a lot more than I was growing up.
My dad is the pickiest eater. I never saw that man eat a green veggie. Ever 😂
@@Jen-Chapin Same! He doesn't eat any fruit or vegetables at all.. unless you count pumpkin pie!
Yes i agree about kids not knowing veggies or fruit now a days my son is 15 and calls lettuce salad 😂
Can you post the information about the new camera please? Is your sister going to start her channel? I haven’t seen her dinner pictures. I did remember she just moved. Looking forward to your next video.❤️
Here is the camera! amzn.to/3B88PDF

Cooking is definitely a lost art
Chives look like green onions
My mother cooked with fresh, my MIL cooked with fresh ingredients, so did I. But....my kids would say "there is nothing to eat". We kept Kraft mac and cheese, canned chili and hot dogs all the time. I still prefer fresh, especially vegs. Funny story about the radishes!
My kids say the same thing lmao 😂
Hi Jen❤ yes I kind of do think “cooking” is becoming a lost art. I feel that at least my kids have certain things that they would like to eat instead of my actually cooking for them. They usually pop open the freezer and ask me to put something in the oven for them. My kids aren’t familiar with everything but then they also know other types of foods that I never heard of. My son would rather eat a gyro off a food truck than me frying up pork chops. I think I spoiled my sons with a lot of fast food places when they were young too, because it was just easier and I was exhausted.
understandable!
I think Keira might’ve met. It looks like chives
That was my thought too.
Oh good thought!
Hushpuppoes gotta have green onions
I must say,I look at the people cart , it's a lot of frozen food, not the food you cook. I always cook,I love cooking.
The dog and the meatloaf pan lol!!!
Come on over to Ohio and I will take y'all down to the Bourbon Trail in Ky.
We went last year! It was fun 😊
Nice work and yummy looking dinner. What do you feel if you eat more than you feel on semaglutide?
Good evening I’m not even in the Christmas spirit this year I’m not even gonna put up my Christmas tree this year
That was me last year 😢
My friend and I used to say: there are cooks and there are fixers. I used to be a cook. I’m more of a fixer now
Lol it always surprises me when young cashiers don't know their vegetables!
Hello
How are you?
You both are so adorable 🥰 The idea of knowing where and how your meals are put together ( the frozen foods isle has turned into four since the 80s!) Definitely a lost art. Don't know the vegetables, herbs or even cuts of meat. No home economics at schools and latch key set ups and daycares where are you going to learn about the food you eat.
Maybe she was thinking chive.
All so true!!
I do think that cooking with fresh ingredients is becoming a lost art. We as families are more busy than decades past. That is just my opinion based on my circle of family and friends though.
I agree. Killing us with the ultra processed foods and ingredients we can not pronounce.
I only cook from scratch because of all the horrible ingredients in premade food.
I always look forward to your videos.
I hope you’re feeling better Alma!
Home cooking is a lost art😖, too much prepared food available nowadays and also most women work out of the home and it’s so easy to use prepared food , it’s really a shame, truly😒
I think cooking is becoming a lost art. Sad.
I get a fennel bulb every week. My bf likes it to snack on when he comes home for lunch. But, the store clerk will always ask what it is and what to do with it. And they don’t know the difference between cilantro and parsley.
The cilantro and parsley thing, yes!
Don’t get me wrong, love watching you for years but do you realize how many times you say “like” (specifically your talk after shopping at HyVee)? I recently had a talk with my grandson who was doing this…he wasn’t aware and has gotten a lot better about it.
I will take Jenn saying "like" every other word if she "likes" to say it. Her channel, her content, her choice of words. You go Jen!!! I like you Jen!
I could definitely improve on that! Thank you!
I wish you wouldn’t use cuss words!
