Blimey, this takes me back to the good old days (1950s) when I used to make these little ships from Airfix in their little plastic bags, good job with such an old kit, more please.
I built the wooden plank on plank sailing ship Swift several years ago. It took me two winters to build. I won't lie, it took all my acquired lifetime modeling skills to make that ship. It came out beautiful eather way. I would call what you made a fun build. There are two builds, the extreme build, and the fun build. Yours was fun. The details dont have to be perfect. It came out looking awesome!
18:28 I should let you all know I’m totally new to the model world and when I saw this I, out loud, said “WHAT?? You can just mix *crap* together and it’s totally fine?!?” Needless to say I was shocked at using zippo fluid for something other than fire. I have so much to learn
you have made such a simple model into a beautiful masterpiece, and I mean it, thanks for listing the supplies you use, especially the rigging, fantastic video!
You are right with the mast realism part. The foremast is the size of the mid mast in which the fore mast is in realistic terms roughly the size of the mizzen mast. But over all nice modeling and painting. Loved the water base with the foaming water I enjoyed watching this.
Nice work. Since we strive for accuracy, a little study on how ships displace water and create waves as they go would help make the base look more accurate. A sailing ship at or near maximum hull speed will sit in the trough of a wave the length of her waterline.
FYI: There are two different types of rigging on a ship, there is standing rigging and running rigging. Standing rigging are represented with dark colors and are for the rigging that does not move or is in place for structural support. Running rigging are for things like belays and lines that are manually or mechanically used for controls and are lighter in color. Anyway, thought you might like to know...;) Still sharp looking model regardless.
All ships.. generally fixed rigging which does not move is protected with tar or resin so is darker.. the running rigging which moves sails and spars is just a rope colour as it’s worn out quickly so is replaced regularly.
Good and correct comment about the Standing vs Running rigging. Also on the triangular 'Stay Sails', the Head (top corner) and the Tack (Front Corner) would be run on a stay (standing rigging) line between masts while the clew could be secured on either side if in the center depending on wind direction. These Sails are most useful on a Square Rigged ship to add sale when the wind is coming from the side of the direction of travel or across the beam.
Nicely done. I built the Academy 1/200 {I think that's the scale, it's their small one that's about 5 inches long} last winter. It was a really pesky yet fun build. I used the nylon thread that came with the kit and did a bunch of additional rigging and detailing. Everything was nice and tight, it looked surprisingly well for a rather slightly detailed kit. Then one day I looked at it in preparation of painting it and a bunch of the nylon rigging had not merely stretched, it was hanging down like telephone lines. UUGH!!!!!!!
Stellar bit of nautical modeling. From the cast base, the awesome airbrush work, to the meticulous rigging...all great jobs. Bill PS: Only detractor was too many commercials during video.
Great Job and video. I also think that the sails are not correct: There are to much sail set, and the main sails would steal the wind to the genovas....
Hi ! is that your first ship ??? wow that's a nice one ! IMO , the water casting sea base "takes the cake" in this build (not that the ship is bad,of course ) !!! very realistic !
I had an idea hit me watching you paint the underside. You could use a sponge to apply several different colors leaving gaps for a final beep marine blue for the dark depths of the ocean to come through the lighter blues and greens. I think it would work great. You ought to give it a test sometime. Let us know how/if it goes. I’m a little curious. Why watercolor pencil for the deck?
Awesome job, but is there an easier way to do water base for larger ships? I have Revell 1:225 HMS Victory and I'd like to make a water base for it, rather than simply putting it on a stand.
As always, just awesome. I'm 54, but hope to be half as good as you someday. Doubt it tho. Did you say on one of the many videos I have watched over and over, that you use MEK to glue painted parts? Does it fog clear parts? Thanks again for your videos and time!
Big fan of your channel. It’s frustrating to watch you make modeling look so easy, truly Amazing craftmanship. What kind of glue do you use if I might ask ?
Thank you very much! It's 3M Super Glue. I always use the smallest packages. Because it loses its condition once you opened day by day. Use always fresh. Also remember the video you watched 3 times faster than normal speed. If you are asking the liquid cement in the green bottle it's MEK (Butanol)
Scale-a-ton First Excuse my english, Im Dutch. Thx for your feedback on the glue. I did some research on MEK, it is a solvent as you may know, it Does weld plastic, But I went to a specialist in acril and plastic today and he said that when MEK has solved the binding Will lost it strenth. So in say 5-10 years the model will call apart when handled. Have you heard about this ?
No I never heard that before. But it’s common problem with Tamiya Thin Cement. After 8 years my models in the same condition. Also No problem, my English is quite bad :)
"Ach du lieber, mein schatz"! A masterful build & model! I think we all have some of the SEA in our blood! Those were the days of "real men", not the "pussipants" of nowadays!!!
ah yes the good old day of high mortality rates at sea... good old days... still, I am a sailor myself, I understand where you are coming from. I just wish there were more ways to get on a tallship's crew besides joining the navy.
Thanks for the information. As I mentioned the video I am not an model ship builder and I did not research the subject enough. If I would build a ship model again, I will do it.
Thank you! I use EZ line fine, PRYM 977770 Knitting-in elastic and Uschi´s high stretch elastic rigging material for rigging my models. You can see "knitting in elastic" in action on the Sopwith Snipe video. ua-cam.com/video/Gs_jktONojw/v-deo.html
hi ı just realized that all the products you use are made in turkey i.e.sinbo :)as a turkish man ı wonder ıf you are turkish or where do you fınd these turkish products
Under such weather conditions (judging by the waves and the roll of the ship), the studdingsails would hardly have been hoisted. Should have removed them.
where did you get the music at the first bit of the video. it's cool :) also where do you get the epoxy and hardener cause i might make a clock glass out of it
Remember the video speed is x2 and the rigging material works with CA glue perfect grap instantly. However it's a conventional CA glue and do its job. It glues everything except of what it should to glued to its place. LOL Just one tip: Use the smallest package of CA and trow it to trash few weeks later. It loses its condition day by day.
I'm amazed how you took that old, tiny kit and truly turned it into a masterpiece, especially in terms of the rigging and the rails you added.
I built this model back in the early 80s. Never dreamed it could look like this! Bravo!
Blimey, this takes me back to the good old days (1950s) when I used to make these little ships from Airfix in their little plastic bags, good job with such an old kit, more please.
Thanks for sharing. I have a few 1/600 Airfix ship models. But I have to finish 15+ Project first.
No rush my friend...…... happy modelling

this one little sculpture says so many stories, and has so much life in it, well done, u have earned my full respect
respect for the rigging works

Wonderful video! Really makes the creative juices flow!

that was so good i think i've got scurvy
Outstanding work as always! You make a simple kit look very good. You make it look easy.
That base really set this model off nicely. Only thing missing are some dolphin riding the bow wave.
You're master of masters, never occurred to me to mold the ocean in acrylic casting, you are a genius !!
Thank you for sharing your talents !!!
You are quite the artist !!!
Great job on this (very) old mold Heller model kit, and well done for your water base !
You deserve way more subscribers. Your work is amazing.
ça change des warbirds et autre panzer,c'est reposant et quel talent !!! bravo MAESTRO !
thank you for sharing this project, i needed help with ocean and waves how to, wonderful work
Awesome ship.
You should honestly sell things like this via ETSY.com. I’m sure many people would love something like this.
Very nice work.
Lovely work, beautifully presented. Thank you
lol, painting the bottom blue worked so well imo me that even gave me a little bit of vertigo =)
Awesome, well done! Love the Cutty Sark models....Bill
Beautifull!,Beautifull!Beautifull!
Fully detailed, precious airbrush work, thats water waves is amazing, congratulations!! Greetings from Argentine.
Nice work.
Since we strive for accuracy, a little study on how ships displace water and create waves as they go would help make the base look more accurate.
A sailing ship at or near maximum hull speed will sit in the trough of a wave the length of her waterline.
Fantastic job
Looks natural. Nice.
Interesting idea, looks good! Even with so poor model you can build masterpiece. You have great skills! ;)
Very nice job and I think the scale is just fine excellent work

is that(colors) a general principle on all sail ships of all ages...or only on the cutty shark ?
All ships.. generally fixed rigging which does not move is protected with tar or resin so is darker.. the running rigging which moves sails and spars is just a rope colour as it’s worn out quickly so is replaced regularly.

Very tedious work, I'm impressed and also enjoy this type modeling myself. Great job. Looking forward to more of your works! :-)
...you quite sure you mean 'tedious'? "Tiresome and monotonous"? You weren't trying for something like, 'studious'? 'Meticulous'?
Great little model and nice water effects!
Nice effort....great eye for detail....and most of all, impressive patience especially for such a small scale model!

I love pirate shippssss
Well you did say you were not a model boat builder well you you did a fantastic job off this iconic saling ship 👍👍👍👍
Great job, but as a Sailor a lot of things with rigging bother me, but especialy lack of any between tops of masts
This is a great model,a work of art fantastic
tres jolie réalisation, mais je suis très intrigué sur cette colle qui colle si bien et si vite les fils pour les haubans.salutations.jean louis
Stellar bit of nautical modeling. From the cast base, the awesome airbrush work, to the meticulous rigging...all great jobs. Bill

Use Adblock Plus or something similar - no adverts at all that way.
WOW, That's pretty cool. BRAVO!
beautiful work
Great Job and video. I also think that the sails are not correct: There are to much sail set, and the main sails would steal the wind to the genovas....
The rigging, really sets it off
it is superb.
A source of know-how.
What kind of resin was that you used looks the best one iv seen in my research forna good one so far ! Looks brilliant
Great work on the ocean base!
very nice
Wow!, masterpiece, good job.
Amazing work, my friend
wonderful job...congrats
Beautiful work, well done👏
You should angle the spars a little, they would seldom be at right angles to the hull when sailing.
Nice job though, makes me want to try one. :-)
Very impressed.
Hi ! is that your first ship ??? wow that's a nice one ! IMO , the water casting sea base "takes the cake" in this build (not that the ship is bad,of course ) !!! very realistic !
Awesome work as always. As soon as I have time I ll try some clear resin project.

Very nice video. I do think the water could've used more white, especially around the sail boat. Other than that, good job... 👍

Do you think this ocean base method would look good on a larger scale ship? Like a 1/700 USS Arizona?
Very nice.

Der Wind kommt von hinten, die Wellen von vorn ??? Grüße aus Berlin Germany
Nice job! Just a bit more knowledge about rigging of tall ships (those staysails...) would make it perfect
The Cutty Sark and some other clippers from the period had copper/zinc hull exterior plating (not red). At sea they glistened.
Thanks for the information. As I mentioned the video I am not an model ship builder and I did not research the subject enough. If I would build a ship model again, I will do it.
Very beautiful
Video başka yerden alıntı mı?
Nice! Where can I find the music you use?
Superb !!!😍👍
amazing.
Brilliant! Could you explain more fully what you are using for rigging, and the adhesive you are using to attach rigging? Cheers.

I realy enjoyed watching your video.
Really love your work. So relaxing to watch after a really hard day at work. Btw can u tell me name of the song min 19:30. Thank you.

Just COOL !
Under such weather conditions (judging by the waves and the roll of the ship), the studdingsails would hardly have been hoisted. Should have removed them.
listing of supplies would be helpful.
I'm what scale is this kit, please?
Well done! :)
Wonderful....Thank You!
where did you get the music at the first bit of the video. it's cool :) also where do you get the epoxy and hardener cause i might make a clock glass out of it
I use only UA-cam Free Music Library. You can search it on UA-cam. You can also try to search Crystal Clear Casting Resin for buying resin.
I need the ship
What kind of super glue did you use for rigging? I`ve never had one grab that fast and would like to get some. Excellent build btw..lol.

Amigo, where did you grt thr model for the ship?
I found it in a local hobby store.
Awesome. I allways get hymnotized by your work...!
Cool🖒🖒🖒, super job...
Elinize sağlık. Bir gemi sürpriz oldu.
