  • @cyclingbrothers7362
    @cyclingbrothers7362 Рік тому +1023

    Avicii was not only a genius, he also showed that when making music, you don't have to follow 'rules' at all. Do what you like and don't try to imitate someone else. Simple advice, but often producers want to imitate someone else.
    I miss him everyday.

    • @profundisconfutatis8093
      @profundisconfutatis8093 Рік тому

      ???? Open voicings are not new, I didn't make it past that simply because the guy who made this video uses any work he can find to sound like he knows what he's talking about. Calling a 3rd and a 5th "harmonics" is not correct, everything has harmonics. Then he called the top voice a leading tone and I decided to simply stop the video.
      I'm not normally negative but this anti learning dumbassery where a producer uses widely known music theory to produce well arranged music and then people who have no interest in learning anything think guys like Avicii reinvented the wheel.

      @Solal I explore plenty of ideas on my own, but most of what I come up with had already been explored by others and it's just in some book I don't know about.
      So I get the idea of just playing and exploring , I'm just not irrationally against any sort of musical intellectualism. By the same coin understanding what makes music successful is part of conveying an emotional message, if these people are so against theory then they should probably stop using lyrics with language and just make grunts and whistles to convey their lyrics otherwise they are just being boring conformists

    • @shanejohns7901
      @shanejohns7901 19 днів тому

      He had depersonalization/de-realization experiences as a result of anxiety. And he chased that anxiety away by using alcohol -- which is like taking a loan from the mafia to pay off the bank. Depression is dwelling on the past. Anxiety is dwelling on the future. So one might think, our job is to just stay in the eternal 'now'. But what is 'now', other than the razor's edge between the past and the future? And if it's a razor's edge, then it's infinitely small. And if it's infinitely small, then where the hell is it?

    Hello Alex I loved your effort to recall on the best composition by Avicii.
    I want to add to this that at the end of second Chords combination, in my opinion, there is the one passing chord he plays at the end of the D# chord, and he plays the F 7 times to compensate that instead of 8.
    16x C# + 7x F + 8x D# + 1x C or some lower than D# chord which is passing

    Cool video, but what you called harmonics are actually chord tones, and what you called a leading tone is just the "lead" (or usually it's just called the top note and doesn't have a specific name). Terminology exists for a reason lol, these words have meanings!

    • @AlexRome
      @AlexRome  Рік тому

      I’ll be honest with you. You’re right. But man I hate the use of those terms. The top note of chords are so significant to the arrangement but aren’t technically named, yet, the stupid 7th degree is what we traditionally refer to as the “leading” tone. I feel like in terms of arrangement, any word including “lead” should refer to notes that lead the harmony or the arrangement. This is one of those thing that I really wish could be changed but who am I to decide this anyway.

    The chords are correct, but are in the wrong key. After a ton of listening and transposing, I found out that the intro is in C Minor while the pre-buildup and drop are in F Minor. Avicii used notes that belong to both scales to transition between keys. By making the intro C Minor which is much lower down than F Minor, he made it sound incredibly dark compared to the rest of the song. Genius.

    I don't understand the genius comments. Avicii (RIP) was not some musical genius like Mozart or Beethoven. His music was boring and derivative and basically composed like the pop culture equivalents of the time. I'm not saying his music was bad, but it was not unique or inspiring at all. He's already been forgotten in the annals of prog / trance music and replaced by other similar players. He's just bleah.
