  • Percy Fletcher (1879-1932) was a British composer and organist, best known for his brass and military band music (much of it still played) but also wrote choral, orchestral, instrumental and organ music;. Largely self-taught, he became a noted and successful musical director at various London theatres.
This piece, published in 1911, is based on the hymn tune we sing to ‘Now thank we all our God’; it’s suitably and unashamedly triumphant, with a (slightly) more subdued start to the Fugue, but ending with full organ. Fletcher spanned the British light music scene between Edward German and Eric Coates, but sadly died of a stroke at the early age of 52.
