      Thank you. I caught one in around 50 ft depth near Toronto a couple of years ago then stopped trying. I hope to start again this summer

    Great video. I just started fishing Lake Ontario this year. If you don’t mind me asking how do you set you dipsy up?

    • @plattinumfishing
      @plattinumfishing  4 роки тому +3

      Awesome, it's very addicting! Most guys will run wire line on a line counter reel for dipsies but 40lb braid works well too. I set mine on number 3 to get it further from the boat and use a chart to determine how much line I need to achieve the depth I want. youtube "how to use dipsy diver" and you will see how they work.

      Plattinum Fishing thanks man appreciate it!! Looking forward to new videos. What size dipsy do you run, or do you change it up?

    • @plattinumfishing
      @plattinumfishing  4 роки тому +2

      No problem man! I use size 1 which is the standard size. They also make mags which are size 3 I believe and they dive even deeper. Dipsies are a huge producer on my boat, some days they out fish the riggers by a long shot.

    Great video! I fish solo most of the time myself out of Webster, NY and have the same reaction when a big one like that gets on the line. "Oh, boy, here we go" ... it's part excitement and part intimidation. Will I get this big boy into the boat.

  • @markredron1579

    What did that last one weigh. Nice to see people put in work to revive. Fishing with kids can really push the limits of what's survivable for fish. I've sat for 30 minutes in a slow moving stream with a nice steelhead in very cold water to get her to swim off

    • @plattinumfishing
      @plattinumfishing  3 роки тому

      I didn't weigh that one, but I would guess 23-24lb. I agree it can make it more difficult handling/releasing fish with children, but it provides a great education opportunity to pass on our love for the sport.

    • @arnoldlueders7500
      @arnoldlueders7500 Рік тому +1

      @@plattinumfishing That may have been a 30lber. How did you not weigh that????? I'll give you props for putting it back, but chances are she died shortly thereafter. Too much lactic acid builds up during the fight and they die.

    Nice fish I live on Vancouver Island so I know how fun a big slab on is. Why do you guys in the great lakes use level winds all the time? You rarely see someone fighting a fish here with one. Grab a mooching reel I recommend the islander reel they are also called knuckle Dusters lol. So much more fun just you and the fish 1 on 1 drag I loosen off completely and I use the palm of my hand. Anyway that is a beautiful slab.

    • @plattinumfishing
      @plattinumfishing  3 роки тому

      Thanks man, I take that as a big compliment coming from a west coast salmon fisherman! It's funny you ask that question, I was just explaining to a buddy the other day how the west coast guys make fun of us for using our fancy level winds while they use 1:1 mooching reels. I'm not really sure why level winds are the staple here. Maybe it's the high stakes tourney game. I do it for the love of fishing, and the thrill of hooking into a mean chinook to me is unmatched by anything else. I'd love to tango with a big king on a mooching reel. I'm planning on getting one to start and have been looking at them but god damn they aren't cheap, especially islanders. Maybe that's another reason lol. You got any recommendations where to get a budget friendly one to start?

      @@plattinumfishing yah there not cheap i use the islander steelheader centerpin in river for steelhead and salmon beautiful reel but no drag so not good trolling. daiwa makes 1 called mr2 something like that no where near as nice as a hardy or islander u can get them for 60-90 dollars they dont sound as good when fish running but they have bigger knobs and easy to learn on. i found this site called facebook market place type in your area theres tons of stuff. I will let u know if i see some good ones. forgot to say earlier if u want to outfish everyone use a tomic plug 4" and 5" the 5" tubby is killer plug number is 602 it glows. If you cant find 1 let me know ill send u 1 ive always wanted to see how it would work on the lakes it slays here especially early morning when still dark. ericluscombe29@gmail.com send me an email if u want then ill have yours. if not no prob.
