*If anyone sees this who has attended the Basilica we would love to hear about how the liturgy and music has impacted your faith journey! Are there any songs/experiences you would like us to capture on video to share?*
There are two. First, when Bill Bastian visits and sings Schubert's Ave Maria and Hal Hopson's The Gift of Love. The first time I heard Mr. Bastian sign during Mass at the Basilica was during a particularly challenging time in my life, and the memory of this is something I cherish. The second was a Christmas Morning Mass in perhaps 2011 or 2012. It was a 7:30 a.m. Mass and Mary Keltgen sang throughout the Mass accompanied by a flute, violin, and piano. Our entire family who was there still regards this is the most beautiful Mass we have ever attended. My wife and I moved away from Minneapolis 10 years ago but still attend the Basilica whenever we visit the area.
It is always such a privilege to sing in the Basilica of St. Mary not only because of the breathtaking architecture, but also because of the incredibly talented musicians that share their gifts there and the amazing community of believers who gather in worship and serve their community every day. What more perfect setting than this beautiful Basilica dedicated to Mary, the Mother of God (Madre de Dios) in which to honor her in song!
I usually prefer more traditional music, but this one caught my attention and it is beautifully done! Even with the more contemporary setting, you really preserved the reverence. Love it!
¿ es posible que María sea madre de DIOS. Si DIOS ES PADRE DE MARÍA?. por favor contesten me voy a esperar su respuesta. Es una pregunta con razonamiento lógico.
Hi Deelicious, I thought the song was lovely. Can you explain how you think honoring Mary is demonic? After all, her humble cooperation with God's plan for salvation allowed Jesus to be born 2000 years ago in a manger.
@@ryangibson7824 well she is worshipping Mary for starters. The music is nice but the lyrics do not honor our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, nor do Catholics
Thanks for the response! I enjoy having conversations with people from different faith backgrounds. What makes you think the song is worshiping Mary as a Goddess? As a Catholic myself, we venerate Mary - which means to show her honor, but we only do so because she cooperated with God's plan. I think the lyrics speak to this when they say, "You are blessed and chosen because of your faith, accepting God's plan, bearing the Son of Man." Mary is important because of Jesus - not in place of Him. Also, have you spoken with many Catholics before? I think most of them would be taken aback if told that you think they do not honor the Incarnate Word of God - Jesus Christ. (After all, He is the reason for our salvation.) I would say the lyrics do praise Him when they say, "Jesus your Son, born of your womb, shows us the way, brightens each day by rising from the tomb!"
Thanks Ryan and Deelicious Grapes - I appreciate the conversation! Ryan answered correctly in saying that we honor Mary, but do not worship her as a Goddess. As the Mother of Jesus, Mary played a very pivotal role in our salvation. She had free will just as we do, but her perfect obedience to God is what we aspire to as well. Since she is now in Heaven and closer to God than we are, her prayers are powerful, so we ask her to pray for us to help us here on earth. As the lyrics say "Pray for us sinners O beautiful Mother". We don't pray to her in place of God, we just ask for her prayers like we ask our friends and family to pray for us.
@@SacredMusicReAwaken yes she was Jesus earthly mother but she has absolutely nothing to do with Jesus mission when he walked the earth. It's very demonic to worship Mary and if people actually studied their Bible, they would know that to be true. Thank u guys for respecting my opinions as I equally respect yours.

My Soul in Stillness Waits! This song has a haunting quality to it and every time I hear it performed at the Basilica it gives me chills!

Agree with you 100% - these old churches are stunning! The architecture truly brings alive a heavenly reality.
