- Rosalind Russell in her prime as Ruth Sherwood, the role she originated in the original cast of Wonderful Town in 1953. Here she performs the number "Swing!" which features her yet to be matched "Floy Doy" scat. This to me is the highlight of the show! Enjoy!

What a wonderful piece of Theatre History!
she nailed it. PLEASE someone lead me to "Conga!"- Roz's gymnastics in that number have to be seen to be believed! Thanks Alex for rediscovering a gem.
Rosalind was a one-in-a-million star of every media! I loved the watermark!
This show was way ahead of its time when it originally opened on Broadway in 1953. This song featured such now-familiar slang as "rock and roll," "truck on down," and "groovy." Great choreography too by Donald Saddler and dancing by Roz who was 51 when this was taped.
She's amazing!!
This was just WONDERFUL!
Roz is sublime !!
some parts of the dance recall WEST SIDE STORY
Not surprised since Jerome Robbins and Leonard Bernstein did this show together.

Such an inspirational video.
I love Roz Russel, thanks for posting.
Thank you for posting. It still holds up. It would been fun to have been in that run.
I adore Roz. I would love to see the Conga!
Thanks for posting this, it's very cool history. I have the cast album with Russell. If you don't have time to post the whole thing... maybe just "100 Easy Ways to Lose a Man"?
A preview of tomorrow. I'm assuming we're all getting to the theater by bus? RR really was the Rolls Royce of performers.

Fantastic. it is great to see Roz in her Tony Award winning role, and it also shows how ill equipped she was to tackle Rose Hovik in Gypsy. All her songs for wonderful town were composed in her narrow range, and she sold them. Gypsy was not.
If you read Rosalind Russell's autobiography, she states it was her singing in Gypsy. Wrong. It was 95% Lisa Kirk, 5 % Rosalind Russell singing.
Thanks for posting! The song Swing begins at 1:50.
oh i just love roz... thank you for posting this one... can you post the whole video?
I’m stealing this!
oh my god really... i will be waiting... thank you so much...

You wouldn't happen to have "Conga!" from this telecast, would you? I found it once and now I can't. Thanks for posting.
THIS CAME RIGHT AFTER HER FANTASTIC TURN IN THE FILM "AUNTIE MAME"...BET SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN GREAT IN THE BROADWAY "MAME"..BUT ANGELA DID A FANTASTIC JOB IN THAT ONE....
Rosalind Russell was offered "Mame" first. She declined.

Really enjoyed this video!!! Thank you so much for posting it!!! Would love if you could post the entire video....or is there somewhere I can download the entire telecast version of this??? Absolutely love Roz....Loved "My Sister Eileen" and I've read so many fantastic things about how great "Wonderful Town" was. If you could post it that'd be great, cheers from Ireland :)
You put a copyright watermark on something you don't own that copyright for?
It sounded like she was rapping from 1:55 to 2:10. :-)
Say, do you have the "Conga!" she also performed on TV with the Brazilian sailors?
This video just proves, without a doubt, that Rosalind Russell is better than you. *laugh*
