The Bag is "a Bag full of winds" that Odysseus received at some point in the Odyssey. It's literally a magic bag containing storm winds that are released when the bag is opened. Back when they used a ton of sail boats that's basically a proverbial "big red button" they can press to make them go really fast
His receiving the bag of winds is in the musical too, in “Keep Your Friends Close”
It’s said Athena favored Odysseus. She gave him the bag of wind as a gift and because she really really wanted him to get home safely.
@@crazyhercules9442 in the musical it was given to him by Aeolus.
@@flamenami good to know!
@crazyhercules9442 I think there are various versions of the Odyssey, I kinda remember it was aeolus in the original story too
*"The line between naiveté and hopefulness is almost invisible."* - Poseidon spent most of the song telling Odysseus how he's going to make him suffer, being merciful is a dumb idea, and he would _never_ leave a job half finished. Then he offers him mercy. He says "But hey, you can just apologize, you know? Say you're sorry and all is forgiven." So what happens when Odysseus apologizes? Poseidon calls him an idiot and starts sinking ships anyway. Such an epic way to say, _"Didn't you hear a word I just said?"_
The real kicker? Odysseus _doesn't even actually apologise._ He's being a glib, arrogant little shit.
The hubris it takes to look a literal god in the eyes and smirk like that with all that's on the line, after all the insults you've already dealt them and theirs? Like... C'mon, Odysseus.
@@Macabrellianhe literally saw a goddess of war and yelled at her while degrading her for being "alone"; and claiming that she, the goddess of wisdom, was not herself wise.
@@Macabrellian In my opinion, that non-apology earned him what happened after. It reminds me of Hamilton. All he had to do was apologize.
@@Macabrellianyeah he just made an excuse
@@disableddragonborn Personally I think what he said counted as an apology, Posiedon just wanted to kill him anyway.
Poseidon is one of the big fish - brother to Zeus and in the previous civilization before the hellenistic Greece, Poseidon was ruler in Zeus place, the seas, underworld and mortal realm.
Hades took over the underworld part in the Hellenistic world and Poseidon is left as God over the sea and also god over horses.
Adds some double meaning to the Trojan Horse, as his symbol whilst used as a strategy by Athena and Odysseus.
Edit: His double role as God of horses and the sea works also with the metaphor, in which waves were described back then - "like raging horses".
Also small info, dying by drowning in the sea was a horrible fate to the Greeks, as it made it impossible to bury their deceased properly. they would be lost souls who could not enter the afterlife as they couldn't pay the ferry across.
I’m a huge god of war fan so I know some basic stuff. Thanks for the info!
EPIC THE MUSICAL IS AMAZING!!! Highly recommend it, especially since the composer actually walks you through how all the motifs and such combine to help tell the story along with the actual words and everything. It's honestly been my obsession lately.
This animatic is fan made, and the composer Jorge Rivera-Herrans has several vocalists who help him with the full musical. It's still in progress and the latest set of tracks should be coming out February 14th!
I need to figure out the order in which I should watch these haha.
I'll hit you up on twitter after I've made a chronological order of these animatics. There's four EP's currently out so it'll take me a bit to get it BUT it's so worth it. I can also spew extra tidbits about the production side since I've been following this project for a hot minute now lol
@@whatitdodave Here is a list of personal recommendation for really well done animatics of the Troy Saga through the Ocean Saga (The first 13 of the 17 songs released so far since the Circe arc officially released yesterday).
These animatics are for the FULL version of each song. There are a lot of other good variations animatics for these songs, but the ones I've listed look stylistically similar enough that it's easier to follow which character is which.
1) "The Horse and the Infant | Epic: the Musical Animatic" by gigi
2) "Just a Man | EPIC: The Musical Animatic" by gigi
3) "Full Speed Ahead [Epic: The Musical | Animatic]" by WolfytheWitch
4) "Open Arms - EPIC: The Musical Animatic" by mircsy -mɪrtʃi-
*See Warrior of the Mind comment*
5) "Warrior of the Mind - EPIC: The Musical Animatic (FLASH WARNING)" by mircsy -mɪrtʃi-
*This is probably one of my favorite stand alone animatics made of the entire musical. Open Arms might feel a bit of a jarring tone/style shift, but these two animatics pair very, very well as a set. Open Arms is such an upbeat and optimistic song, but the ending/opening credits at the ending of each animatic ties back into the underlying journey.
6) "Polyphemus - EPIC: the musical Animatic" by Ximena Natzel
7) "Survive - Epic the Musical Animatic (CW: GORE AND FLASH)" by mircsy -mɪrtʃi-
8) "Remember Them [EPIC: The Musical | Animatic]" by WolfytheWitch
9) "My Goodbye [EPIC: The Musical Animatic]" by WolfytheWitch
10) "Storm / EPIC: the musical / Animatic" by Ximena Natzel
11) "Luck Runs Out || EPIC: The Musical | Animatic" by TJ Makes
12) "Keep Your Friends Close | EPIC: The Musical ANIMATIC" by gigi
13) "Ruthlessness | EPIC The Musical | Animatic" by AnniFlamma
(which you've just watched because it's too freaking awesome)
If you see this, enjoy!
@@newdaydiscoveries1828 Thanks for the comment! However I am well on my way already haha. Dropping reactions to Warrior of mind, Polyphemus, and Survive (OH MY GOD THIS WAS EPIC) tomorrow.
@@whatitdodave oh, awesome! I look forward to the reactions. I'm very, very curious as to which ones you ended up watching as there are many variations of those ones specifically. (with all the hype energy in those song, wonder why lol)
The die section is so harrowing. Just hearing the desperate cries of captain with those visuals. Damn
I always get goosebumps hearing the cries of "captain!"
Right?! It's done so well!@@dylanfooler
@@Darkendrainand then poseidon fucking with Odysseus after. It’s his power causing the background “when does a ripple become a tidal wave. When does a man become a monster”
This is a fan animation of the musical the actual one is still being made and slowly dropped on youtube by the Jorge Rivera-Herran
Oh yea EPIC musical is a masterpice new "album" of the new saga drops on the 14 i think.
if you didnt say it i was going to say it
CIRCEEEEEEE SAGA
CIRCE‼️
I loved the WTF expression after Odysseus sings "All I gotta do is open this bag." It was a perfect reaction to something entirely unexpected after experiencing something so relentlessly intense. You and Poseidon were as one there. Jay (the playwright/composer/songwriter) would be pleased.
But yeah, you're missing a lot of context as you've started at the end of all of the offically published songs. You have to go in order to get the full story. Start with the Troy Saga, then the Cyclops Saga, then the Ocean Saga (Ruthlessness is the last song in the Ocean Saga), and finally the Cersie Saga, which drops tonight at 11:30. I highly recommended animatics by Gigi for Epic the Musical
OMG, you finally discovered the EPIC musical! I only discovered it recently, myself, but it's amazing! I'd LOVE to see you react to the entire soundtrack/animatics as they're all beautiful bangers.
If you want more context about the bag reference it relates the song ‘Keep your friends close’ which was the 3rd song from the ocean saga, just before ‘Ruthlessness’ that finished this saga. There are currently 3 saga’s out (The Troy saga, The cyclops saga and the ocean saga) with the fourth saga (The Circe saga) coming out on the fourteenth of February. :)
Yo please react to more stuff from epic the musical! It's an adaptation of the Odyssey from Greek mythology. Quite literally every song is a banger. Id start with "the horse and the infant" as that's the first song
For the people who don't know, epic the musical is the story of the Odyssey but as a Musical😅
I’m so happy that EPIC is getting more and more recognition! Jorge really deserves it! He’s actually been working on this for the last four years and he has a new saga (the Circe saga) dropping today at 11:30 pm est! So excited for him!
this is a rabbit hole well worth falling into. EPIC the musical starts with the troy saga, the cyclops saga, and the ocean saga. the circe saga will release in four days. If you enjoyed ruthlessness you should go start from the beginning and go through it because every piece is incredible. Also your channel and reactions are amazing. keep at it.
This is definitely one of those things where you need to start at the beginning and go from there, glad you enjoyed it though!
OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR REACTING TO THIS!! It’s the last song that is released as of today, with the next 4 songs coming out on the 14th. I would HIGHLY recommend watching them in order, starting with the Horse and the Infant. It follows the story of the odyssey, and Odysseus and his men on their journey home to Ithaca after the Trojan War. The first song takes place at the end of the Trojan War. Jorge Rivera-Herrans wrote this musical, and also sings as Odysseus!
The song is from Epic The Musical. If you want another animatic to react of this musical I'd recommend Keep Your Friends Closer by gigi
Oh man you got into this musical at the latest song, man start at the beginning. You’re missing a lot of story. Also, the person who made the animatic is not Jorge Rivera-Herrans because fans make animatics to his songs all the time
This is Epic: The Musical by Jorge Rivera-Herrans. There are currently 13 songs released (soon to be 17) and is planned to be a 40 songs long. You should really check out “The Horse and The Infant” and continue from there, you can also read a summary of “The Odyssey” since the musical is an adaptation of it.
Dave, I literally found this song (and this animatic!) last night and have been losing my mind over it. Thank you so much for this reaction!
2:39 Ody has PTSD from "Just a man"
The "Nuuu" is my favorite part aside from the epic climax (the harrowing "Captains" get me every time). The "Nuuu" had me busting out laughing when I first heard the update to the musical last sunday (I had no idea the composer released the ocean saga and circe saga until this week, sadly). But as someone who studied The Odyssey in both high school and college, this project has been amazing to experience, and especially for free on UA-cam. Bless everybody who works their butts off on each piece, and also the artist fans that work tirelessly to animate episodes like the one you reviewed (that one is the best one in my opinion).
This album actually got me to pick up my copy of the Iliad and Odyssey. I had never read them but knew the basics of each story. Spotify actually put a couple of songs from EPIC into my recommended and it hooked me right away. I really hope you check out more from this musical because it does live up to its name.
2:33 I just caught that the animator INCLUDED THE INFANT SON OF PRINCE HECTOR FROM THE FIRST SONG. A bit of irony since Odysseus murdered the infant, and Poseidon says "you fight to save lives, but don't kill".
If you wanna know about the Bag you need to watch the previous Video "keep your friends close"
What sets this animation apart from others is how Poseidon isn't filled with righteous anger as we'd expect him to be. He seems like he could care less about his son's well-being, and takes genuine pleasure in making Odysseus suffer for his naivity. A true villain with solid motives.
Poseidon: Apologize for maiming and blinding my son
Odysseus: Not only will I NOT apologize, but I will make excuses for why we blinded your son
Odysseus VICTIM BLAMED. That's the type of apology that isn't even acceptable from a 7 year old.
I love that immediately after, they show him Poseidon's perspective, and he just completely stops seeing his face. At that point, he wasn't even a mortal that could beg for a second chance, from Poseidon.
The bag is a gift from the Goddess (in this musical album) Aeolus. She gave Odysseus the bag (keep your friends close song) to hold the storm that was assaulting him and his crew and told him that under no circumstances was anyone to open the bag.
I love the detail of poseidon appearing out of nowhere and stepping on the boat like he's tipping it over
You need to listen to more of the Epic soundtrack. It’s a musical of the epic poem , The Odyssey!
Every single song is incredible! I keep telling people this is the next Hamilton! They just released the Circe Saga today and there’s more on the way. You may know the Odyssey, but you have never heard it like this.
I got a reaction starting from the beginning of this dropping later on today!
Have tissues ready. I don’t know about anyone else, but the ending of the first song’s animation and the entire second song made me cry.
That’s how you know it’s a good soundtrack.
Yeeeaas, please react to more of the musical, it's absolutely amazing
Oh, I'm so glad you had fun with this!! Epic's story is very self-referential from song-to-song and lyrics and motifs tie back into one another, so I'm subbing for the chance to see more of your reactions!
I love that people are reacting to these now, but god, I wish they would go in order because when the part goes, "when a does a man become a monster." Having that call back gave me chills like damn
The whole Epic the musical soundtrack is amazing!!!!
Omg, I never thought I’d see the day you discovered EPIC. I’ve been following the creator for quite some time now and it gets me so hyped up seeing people experience it!
You picked the last song of the third saga. I recommend The Horse and The Infant to react next 🤘🏽💜
I really hope you come back and rewatch this after you make your way through the soundtrack! There are so many references and callbacks to previous songs here
There’s 3 concept albums of this, you should watch them all.
LETS GOOOOOOOO!!!! EPIC THE MUSICAL!
People really be sleeping on epic animatics
Dave, you need some help from Epic fans to put some animatics or even just the songs in order so the story makes sense to you. You kinda started from the middle of it all with this one.
Incredibly how you definitely got the vibes and feelings even with no clues. Yet I hope you listen I again since I know you're watching everything in order, then you can understand the little details
Bro when Poseidon dropped the “baby” in his arms in front of Odysseus 😭 he did that shi on purpose
Dude! You gotta get some context with EPIC, this is one of the most recent songs!
Absolutely - like and you should check out more of Epic the Musical. Most already released songs have amazing animatics (sometimes even few from different creators). Also, listening in order would be better to undestand the story, but just from musical prospective, each song can be listened on its own and be a banger
That horse is pure nightmare fuel
Would love to see you react to more of EPIC! Maybe a video per saga ("chapter" of the story) which contains around 4 songs, in order?
More epic pls! There's a lot of cool animatics for all the songs.
Probably should have said this days ago but when Odysseus(god I hope I spelt that right) is told to apologize and poseidon continues to sink the fleet he is technically(I mean not rlly but ehhh) in the right because he asked for an apology and he got Odysseus trying to silver tongue(Is that the saying? I not too good at english) his way out of the punishment and kinda lied a bit like a tad bits(When you watch polyphemus it will make sense what he did and the cyclops kinda had a bit of the right to attack but ehhhh)and his punishment for trying to literally lie to a god he gets his fleet sunk. If you pay attention Odysseus didn't even say the words "Sorry" so eyaaaaa
Theres an entire musical of bangers, if you want the full context of this I highly suggest animatics by Gigi they are stupidly good.
YOU NEED TO TO SEE THIS MUSICAL THIS IS FIRE
Yea, this is the kind of musical where you need to start for the beginning. But glad you found it.
Thx for the reaction
I love how you keep using the word "Epic" to describe it. It absolutely is lol
Please please please do more!!
Nice reaction
musical is azaming but the way how they portray Poseidon here is very much scaled-down as poseiden's wrath is basically all forms of the ocean that you experience in like bad weather and stuff like typhoons, whirlpools, tsumani, etc, etc. like poseidon would literally already wiped the floor with them
I don't think Poseidon truly wanted to wipe them all out in this. I think he did exactly what he wanted. 557 of Odysseus's men are now dead, and it's all because of Odysseus, is what Poseidon wants Odysseus to think. This was just torture, he didn't want to kill Odysseus that quickly.
@@disableddragonborn so, it's a physiological torture
@@Kaiser_von_Europa Definitely psychological torture.
@@disableddragonborn ok
If he'd listened to the musical in order, he'd know why the 43 left is such a big deal to us 😭😭
you gotta react for the rest of epic the musicaleyou will love it
What’s the order.
Check out the whole musical.
Do more epic and in order
That is poseidon
WE LOVE JORGE RIVERA
But ✨No✨...
🤣🤣
i dont know how american school works but sounds like u guys dont learn much history and mythology from other places in the world. Else u kinda would have a hunch about what the bag is about. and the whole (workshop) musical.
We learn history but not mythology. That’s extremely specific. I learned a little about it in art history classes in college and in this game called God of War but that’s just about it.
Why the random dig at the American school system?
@@rissalayland654they probably aren’t from America themselves.
@alisond929 im not, u r correct! But I do talk to a lot if people from different parts of America that do agree on the fact that most schools r not doing it right. Mythos shouldn't be taught as a separate thing, ofcourse but it is a big part of the world's history since a lot of main areas of the world have their own mythos that r a part of their cultures and/or religions and has had a big impact on the places. Not trying to hate on anyone, just thinking it's weird how most other ppl get to read about or study these subjects in school but I hear from a lot of Americans that they never touched the subjects at all.
We do learn some greek mythology, though it depends on the state and possibly the school you go to. I read the Illiad and I had classes cover basic greek mythology in English classes from grade 6 to senior year of high school (though high school depends on what classes you enroll in). Also learned about greek mythology in college.
This is the best animatic for RUTHLESSNESS, so glad you found it! If you liked the line “when does a man become a monster?” look up “JUST A MAN” for the rest of that song. It slaps & is from the same musical. The songwriter said he has a clip of it here bc Poseidon is taunting the main character w: it.
