I 100% agree. I had tough that if the weapon banner had 2 good 5* and maby some good 4* I would pull on that. Getting a rateup 5* in only two pitys just is pretty reasonable. Now that you guarantee the one you want means that I will probably be going for weapons in the future. The chance of getting the 5* you want as your first 5* drop is still 37.5%, and the fate point probably wont carry over so if you still cant loose the "50/50" and guarantee what you want on some later banner, but if you plan around that the weapon banner is pretty comparable to the character banner(and better if you are favless).
Every time there are 2 crit weapons at once in the banners I always throw a few pulls to see if I get lucky, my pity is slowly growing so I hope that Mavuika wont be paired with healers like they did with Furina twice
Yeah, it took me 6 months to get my first copy of fav sword from a random standard banner pull. I think that's what annoys me about how ingrained the "Just use favge" stance is with the community.
If only the banner adopted the HSR/ZZZ system of split weapon banners, I have massive doubt of this due to their insistence on Fate points now extending to the Chronicled wish, AND Genshin (and HSR) adapting ZZZ’s higher 1% rates on weapon banner would be ideal.
I do think characters still have higer pull value for F2P that want to clear all the content, and they shouldn't pull too early or too much in the weapon banner, just cuz now there's also the Imaginarium Theater that literally doesn't let you do it if you don't have enough characters, and most 4* characters really need their C6 or C4 at least. I think is good to pull in weapon banners but only on the really good and versatile ones and slowly over time, don't get carried away for the hype, and don't get weapons you don't need, for example catalist cuz you can use Widsith and you don't need 5* weapons for Xiangling or Raiden cuz DB and The Catch exist. I'm probably one of the people that have less weapon banner pulls in the game, im playin since version 1.8 and only spended around 330 pulls on the weapon banner, i got 2 standar and 3 limited 5* weapons, and i can beat every abyss since 2.2 and imaginarium with out braking a sweat, despite what some people might say most of the 5* wapons from the standar banner are actually pretty good.
I just get 5* weapons for the characters I like or if they ever run jade cutter I always go for that banner lol. It’s been rare since with characters with signatures keep Rerunning it’s almost impossible to get a jade cutter which is one of the best stat stick swords in the game. It’s a little sad, I have mistsplitter, alhaitham’s weapon and clorinde’s weapon so my jade cutter is currently retired.
Real enlightenment is to use anemo traveler with iron sting and suffer until a character whos good with craftable weapon/a weapon I randomly got from standard banner 😭😭
I think the reason why I like HSR more is the fact you can easily get the 5* LC which is great for your DPS since most of them is big increase of dmg or QOL, so I'm not only stuck on character which was boring. Well, I can pick Keqing as the free 5*, pull Kazuha and Baizhu and Ayaka sword easily which I will enjoy
LvL 12 abyss is not "main content", it's endgame content for players with op accounts that have already done everything else in the game. You don't need 5* or high refinement weapons to easily clear 90% of the game's content. I can understand rolling for a weapon like once a year on a character you really like but you definitely shouldn't be rolling on every weapon banner, getting new characters is way more fun and adds way more value to the core experience. Weapon banners ARE a scam, a predatory tactic and a distraction and they shouldn't exist (as they don't in good gacha games) and we shouldn't be encouraging Mihoyo on this.
I still wish we had the HSR weapon banners in Genshin, odds and all. Losing to a standard weapon is one thing, but losing to the weapon of the other featured 5-star is just bullshit.
There is upcoming imaginarium theatre visionary mode which requires you to have like 26 characters. Do you see that conflicting with vertical investment for a particular character someone likes? Someone can clear the abyss.. but they won't be able to clear imaginarium theatre if not enough characters of one particular element 😑 I feel like investment for imaginarium theatre conflicts with investment for abyss. It's clear to see what I mean when you look at characters outside of combat; Wanderer flies, Xianyun has a triple jump, Furina walks on water. Weapons don't bring about any novelty in gameplay, which is not exactly a mystery, so I find puzzling how Mr. Strimer gets to be the bastion of reason for pointing out something so obvious. I mean, thank God for Mr. Streamer! I almost didn't get the pretty Barbie I wanted in favor of a toothpick to make my other Barbie kill things more better or something...

A lot of people fail to realize that since in HSR currently (not sure if they will go down this road in ZZZ cuz it's still too early to tell), certain lightcones are extensions of character's kits, rather than the usual significant dmg increase. The first was Acheron. The most recent was Yunli. The difference is night and day. Faster ultimates and more taunt value, which is barely provided by any other external sources in the game besides an outdated 4 star healer. I'm not saying that Genshin's weapon banner is somehow better than HSR and ZZZ's now (because it really isn't). I'm saying that given Hoyo's tendencies, they're likely to start implementing more vital QoL features on weapons rather than simple dmg increases, like they recently did in HSR, if it becomes that much easier to get them. There's always a give and take here and there. Currently, my main gripe with the whole weapons circumstance right now is how they won't move "limited" 4 star weapons to the standard and character event banner. I recently switched my Nahida's Sacrifical Fragments to Wandering Evenstar (managed to get it to R5 while pulling for Emilie's weapon) and it was such a nice improvement. Sucks that we can't get those kinda weapons more easily.

Here's a fun anecdote for my fellow 4 star weapon lovers: I played for about 10 months, started on 4.0 and quit this month cause the Z game sucked me in like that. During my time in Genshin I managed to pull (roughly 210 times) *exclusively* on weapon banners that featured *Dragon's Bane* (Furina release, Chiori release, Clorinde release and the recent Navia rerun) and I never hit the damn thing, for which my Fjords Tao (666587184) is my pride and joy. I think "out of touch" is an understatement when it comes to Mr. Strimer failing to realize not just the value any 5 star weapon (except Amos bow xdd) has on a fresh account, but also the RNG hell that "settling for 4 star weapons" can be. It was quite alienating to watch Mr. Strimer complain about Dragon's Bane being on every banner ;
I don't understand. The current weapon description says the same thing as before. 75 chance to get weapon, then a guaranteed promotional, then a guaranteed that you chose. It says fate points 1/1 now...but the description is still 2/2. If you were guaranteed at 1/1 why even have fate points if it's basically a 50/50??
i think the wording just might be confusing and i think you're conflating a few things as happing after each other rather than at the same time. 75% to get a rate up, then if you didn't get the weapon you want you get the fate point and are guaranteed to get it on your next pull. the part in the description about how if you didn't a promotional weapon means you will get one on your next 5* is transferable across weapon banners while the fate point is not. (sorry if that didn't make the most sense, i tried to explain what i think is the case) tldr: the system has changed and you will get the rate up you want in 2 5*
Funnily, getting a c6 Xingqiu without character banner is probably easier than getting an r5 fav sword without weapon banner. Xingqiu can be grabbed from lantern rite, that one event one, and occasional monthly shop. Absolutely doable with weapon banner only. Fav is purely up to luck.

An average carry probably can't 36 star at C0R0 (which in my book makes them way worse for F2P folks because C1 or R1 literally doubles the cost).

Honestly I agree with you and based on these takes (The lenses you used to evaluate cons chars and weapons) xinqiu is better than yelan at c6. Also xinqiu, xiangling are the two easiest 4 stars to get. Xiangling and xinqiu both get tons of banners, benn on neuv and kazuha banners twice this patch and xianling 4 times in 4.0. Also one of your points is kinda misleading as investing in cons, you would most likely clear faster with pyro archon and furina as a new player rather than just furina c1. Vertical investment is highly endgame content and due to that at endgame levels you already have enough investment to do that. (This is not taking into the possibility that you love a character really hard).
