Hiya, I agree. Although I didn't spend that much time in Kyoto specifically, it was easy to find delicious food for moderate prices. Been to nice restaurants, local popular backstreet soba places, random kiosks that didn't have a massive queue during lunch hours, and, of course, konbini. In the end, the most expensive thing was eating beef in Kobe, (and maybe a yakiniku dinner with a wagyu spead for two, and we actually chose the small plate), but I was ready for it and worth the price.
Oh and I don't know if you'd say the same for Germany. =) We were used to having "all-you-can-eat sushi" in Italy (a bit of an excessive indulgence, and we actually stopped going for it that often once we returned from Japan XD), but anyway, having the stomach ready for a giant feast, I thought I might lose myself in Kura, wanting to eat everything and then making it the most expensive sushi meal. But in the end, it was just a full experience that fed me with moderation, the conveyor belt, the fish, the games, and the boundless matcha. I took a lot out of that experience, plus the other sushi places I visited afterwards.🤤
