    FYI, The TCV - Elevates, and a few other brands - sometimes rattle under boost enough to hear through the firewall. An easy fix is to zip tie the TCV to the vacuum lines instead.
    Looking forward to see what the E85 tune does *hint hint wink wink*

    Keep an eye out for boost spikes. This is a MAC Valve, and for some reason our Volvos really don't like them. I can't explain why they cause issues but I've seen it time and time again. Just be careful with it, don't want to see the C30 meet the same fate as an SR/VR that boost spikes and cracks a sleeve.
    I'd seriously look into opening the top end and at least shimming this block before you creep into the 300hp range.

      @@ShiftingLanes Yours may work flawlessly, which is great! For a lot of applications these valves are superior. I just shy away because of horror stories of a 30psi boost spike, then unexplained coolant loss and a cold start misfire.

      @@qaza007qaza If you're looking for a proper upgrade, I personally recommend GrimmSpeed's BCS. They're meant for Subaru, but with a harness plug and a few minutes of work they can be adapted to basically any turbo application. If you're looking for a stock replacement, I used a Porsche Peirburg TCV (P/N 7.22908.03.0)

    • @THEGHOSTSLAVE
      @THEGHOSTSLAVE 5 років тому

      @@qaza007qaza Upon further review, it turns out the GrimmSpeed BCS is also a MAC built valve, just like the Elevate, and the iPD HD TCV. So, with that, your options are:
      1: Factory Volvo Pierburg TCV
      2: Porsche Pierburg TCV
      3: One of the dozens of MAC built TCV/BCS valves available from many different companies.
      I recommended the GrimmSpeed as I have had luck with those on both my brothers 2005 Legacy GT Ltd Sedan, and his 2005 Legacy GT Wagon. But Subaru's seem to like the MAC Valves.

I have been thinking of the s40 AWD conversion down the road too. I'm really digging the channel and the knowledge! Been looking forward to you guys starting work on the c30.i know how hard it is to film in such a tight spot just bit of advice on moving the valve.You moved it to the bulk head how far is that from its original position?and how do you reconnect it to the wiring as you have moved it?does it come with much longer wiring?would be good if you could show few more pics of the before and after.is it best going in from the wheel or underneath?got to get one for my S40 T5.

    • @ShiftingLanes
      @ShiftingLanes  5 років тому +1

      It is 100% plug and play. So all the wiring is Taylor suited for the relocation. It is about 10-12 inches from the original position which was literally on the turbo.

    • @trondklette1125
      @trondklette1125 5 років тому +1

      @@ShiftingLanes The reason it is mounted to the turbo is to keep the hoses as short as possible. The valve is a pulsating solenoid valve, basically it pulsate the pressure/bleed many times a second to control boost. The longer the hoses the worse the response and boost control accurancy is compromised.

    My TCV failed like a year and a half ago introducing limp mode on and off (at about 145k km). Replaced it with stock but probably should have upgraded. :/ Loving the Volvo vids :) Exciting watching this thing start to come together. Any plans to upgrade your lines to silicone? That's going to be one of my future mods. The old lines are terrible. For us R guys that TCV is part #9465528. I was wondering if it might be the same part, not so (obviously LOL). Might be a revised part # though since your C30 is way newer than my car. It does show as an interchange with the R's. *Shrugs*
    Edit: 6:20 I can't tell you how many damned times that's happened to me hahahaha. The Volvo engine bay is notorious for eating fasteners, never to be seen again. Lost in some dark crevice somewhere that is absolutely impossible to get to.without removing 400 parts (oh you thought you could get it with a magnetic pickup tool? Silly me...). :( Good bye bolt, screw, fasteners... good bye and good luck.

    As others pointed out, this was not an upgrade. These MAC valves are not good quality (they are actually rated to withstand less heat than the stock Pierburg valve), and they don't do anything better than a stock valve. You can say you replaced the turbo control valve, but you certainly didn't upgrade it. Even if the MAC valve doesn't fail, it provides no benefits over the stock one.

    Having to changing an exhaust manifold gasket on one of those Dinky Toys.
    It's hard enough on a V70 II (p3) I can not imagine how extremely hard it would be on a Dinky Toy when every cm and every mm makes a huge difference, but i guess that one day i will have to replace one of those and i will then find out exactly how hard it is.
