Thanks for this video. My Mother & Aunt(both 83)are going on this cruise soon,we have just booked them on it for 2wks,it’s their 1st cruise & flights from our local airport/transfers & all-inclusive 2wk cruise has cost £1600 each so we think it’s a bargain. Seeing this video has enforced that. It’s not a massive ship like the P&O things but it’s a starter for them to try,so thanks for the informative video 👍🏻
Hey thank you so much for watching and commenting, we’re glad this video helped! We’re sure your mother and Aunt will have an amazing time onboard! Let us know how they get on we’d love to know! ☺️
thanks for showing my favourite ship. Love the room with glass roof and wicker seating on deck 11. In fact I would book it again if it was sailing to somewhere I have not been too, but had to give it a miss this year and book the Explorer 2 instead. Never saw anybody drunk just happy with lots of laughter.
Great review! We went on our first Caribbean cruise in 2019. We went on discovery 2 and it was fantastic!!!! We are hoping to go back next winter and taking my stepkids and parents in law. Can’t wait!!!!!
The cabañas were removed in 2021. When the ship was Celebrity Galaxy "The Mediterranean" was indeed an indoor solarium with pool. One weakness of Explorer is that there is now no alternative pool to the main one and I would like to see this pool reinstated. I have sailed on Explorer twice and the cruises are amazing value for money. I have never heard anyone make negative comments about "booze cruises". The entertainment is fantastic (I hope cruise director Cameron is still with the ship) much better than both Regal Princess and Brilliance of the Seas in 2022 in my personal experience. Sailing on Explorer again this Monday. Absolutely love Marella Explorer.
Thanks for watching Richard! Yes we agree with you about the pool, its such a shame that it was filled in and that there isn't an alternative pool available for when weather is unsettled. We hear of a lot of people avoiding Marella because they perceive it to be "budget" and therefore attracting booze cruisers because alcohol is included. As we said, that was not out observation at all - Explorer was actually a quiet ship, and felt very homely. How have you found Explorer this time round?
I have just paid £3,500 for both of us for next year... but I have cruised with Tui/Marella for the last 20 years so we don't mind because we know that we will have a great time! Having said that we haven't been on the Explorer so thanks for this informative video x
Have you sailed aboard Marella Explorer? As somebody that spent nearly 6 months aboard her during my Deck Cadetship (Jay) with the merchant navy, I have a lot of affection for this ship - share your experiences by dropping us a comment below!
...the period just after COVID when the cruise industry was on it's knees and cruise fares were a steal. We'd be lining up too, but haven't found a deal as good as this since!
Hello Bernadette! So glad you booked your first cruise, and that our video played a role in tempting you into Marella. Hope you have the best time, we can’t wait to go on Explorer again :)
Comprehensive review - thanks. Going on Explorer in a few weeks. Have been on many Marella (& Thomson previously) cruises and much prefer them to other companies we have tried - P&O, Cunard and others. Staff are always amazing and the whole experience is, in my opinion, a relaxed fun cruise. Thanks again - it’s great to get to know the ship before boarding!
Hey Lorna, thank you so much for watching, we’re glad our video can help build on your excitement! Please do come back and let us know how you get on, we’d love to hear how you got on! 😁
I love Marella cruises 🚢 we have sailed on some fabulous ships but Marella is great value for money go to some fab locations , thankyou for a great review have booked for October this year our cruise for special birthdays was cancelled for two years so we can’t wait !
Thanks for your feedback Karen! Like you, we have travelled with many different cruise lines, but Marella has a special place in our heart! Hope you have an amazing time on your cruise in October :)
Going on a cruise in 3 weeks, cost £1650 each so you definitely got a bargain at £360,looking forward to it none the less as your review was very positive 👍🏻
I'm glad you enjoyed your 1st cruise with Marella ...I haven't been on any Marella cruises as yet since they change from Thomson ....BUT I did do a lot up to 2013 with them as Thomson and enjoyed them they are pretty good for what you pay and never had a complaint or a bad cruise with them. But now they have changed to Marella and gone AI across the board they should be great! ...sadly due to covid, they have gotten rid of dream (my last cruise ship I went on) and celebration (my 1st cruise ship I went on) I will miss both of them as they were smaller. BUT one thing I have noticed with Marella going AI on all the ships is they have left in the fleet they are charging more because it's AI and are mostly balcony cabins and better ships and facilities and they have CUT DOWN the main waiter service restaurant menu to 3 course whereas before it was 6 course each night (but was optional you didn't have to have all 6) I'm disappointed in that respect as the food was and is always great onboard (and we always did one of the specialty restaurants like surf and turf ..A TIP for anyone reading BOOK the specialty ones more or less when you board as places sell out fast! ) They have cut the menu to cover some of the cost of going AI in my eyes .. won't stop me going on a Marella cruise but I will be going without the same expectations I used to have when they were Thomson ..BUT I do hope in that respect they prove me wrong and exceeded said expectations! ....OH and P.S did you know Marella explorer used to be THE CELEBRITY GALAXY? ..just happens to be the cruise ship that JANE MCDONALD started off her career on with the BBC tv series the cruise back in 1998 ..just a bit of trivia for you there!

Hey! We managed to get a great deal as it was externally last minute! Doubt we’ll ever get a deal like this again lol! Did you book your next sailing yet?! 😄
Hello Tony, thanks for watching! The trip was on October 2021 - but the positive reviews on this ship continue it would seem. We are booked to go on Marella Voyager in July, very excited :)
Would love to book in future for our family. However, wondering why no other cruise line requiring vaxx proof in Nov 2022? This cruise line seems to be requiring proof of most recent booster as well to board for 18 and over. Is the science different here? Does this cruise line not know the most recent science that the current shots do not stop infection or transmission ? I’m just trying to understand the reasoning behind these arbitrary rules this far in, which seem to be applied (from what I know) only to this cruise line .
Hello, thanks for watching and leaving us a comment! Proof of vaccination to board is annoying, especially as COVID measures seem to be so lax in society and with other cruise lines. Hopefully they look into addressing this in the new year! All the best :)
Hey Jonathan! Yeah we got a steal, we booked just after cruise operations had recommenced when the world was very uncertain. We also booked only a few days before departure which massively helped! We would still pay £1200 to go on this ship though, she had a lot to offer!
One day I may take a cruise--since I enjoy European travel and British Hospitality, this cruise ship seems to be one I hope I can enjoy. It has quite a history, once was Celebrity Galaxy, then Mein Schiff 1 (I have a model of that ship). My parents (RIP) enjoyed Royal Caribbean on a Caribbean cruise and Princess on an Alaska cruise. My oldest brother (RIP) and his wife enjoyed a Disney cruise followed by a stay at Disneyworld. Largest ships I've been on were the Dover ferries, to and from Calais, in '17. I had only been on small ferries prior to that in New York, and Northern and Southern California, but had not seen anything the size of the Dover ferries, which seemed to feel like they sailed on glass across the English channel and on the inside looked like they went on forever which really impressed me. I was on what was once the largest ship in the world, the USS Enterprise, while it was in port, but large passenger ships are even more impressive. Your review, seen by me, a former resort desk supervisor in the Napa Valley, I felt was very fair to the cruise line especially your cabin, restaurant, theater and deck facilities reviews. That type of honesty will help bring more passengers to this ship and I am sure the cruise line has seen and appreciated your review, and your video's production values, which do UA-cam watchers and the site also a great service. Sorry for the late reply Andrea, I’ve only just seen this comment! Marella Explorer is a really lovely homely ship. There isn’t the glitz and glamour you get on other ships, but you get a quieter, more relaxing atmosphere. Having said this, there was still great entertainment, food was fab and value for money is incredible. We say go for it :) Best advice - get a couple of quotes from a travel agent, and then call Tui and they should be able to beat the price! Thanks Debbie - that's really kind! We did it through Iglu - and we managed to get an unbelievably good last minute deal. Hello Jack! Thanks for your kind comment :) we’ve been asked that a lot, we got an incredible last minute deal - literally booked 5 does before departure, and it was one of our best cruises! Where are you looking at going?
@@sailawaymag Oh wow, that's crazy! We're planning an Adriatic/Mediterranean and the Marella Explorer is probably the ship we'll be on. Do you have any tips?
Just got back from a fantastic Marella cruise but i would say the surf and turf is over priced and not even on the same level as as an Angus steak house. sushi is fantastic though.
Hello Mick! We don’t eat meat, so we had the seafood. We did think it was a little pricey, but overall was satisfied with what we were given! I dare say you had steak, so you’ll be able to judge more fairly whether it was worth the price or not. Our meal at Surf & Turf was much better on Discovery!
We did disco 2 last year. Just booked the expo for this. No pissheads, great food for the money & wonderful destinations but best of all like minded people who were fun & it wasn't full of coffin dodgers.
£360??? We can’t find a Marella cruise for anything near that price - so regretfully find this review not representative in terms of cost to be relevant.

We've just got married and have been looking into a honeymoon cruise with Marella.
Quick question: How on earth did you find it for £360 pp?! We've seen nothing lower than £1,000 pp!
What's your secret?!
@@sailawaymag Our next cruise is on discovery so many thanks for that.
Hi, what time of year did you sail and how did you find it at such a good price ? :)
Hello Erin! We went in October 2021, and we got an amazing last minute deal by book 4 or 5 days before departure.
Like it,tpo edition. take care-Cruise. 💥
We did disco 2 last year. Just booked the expo for this. No pissheads, great food for the money & wonderful destinations but best of all like minded people who were fun & it wasn't full of coffin dodgers.
Glad you had a great time onboard Scott! ☺️
£360??? We can’t find a Marella cruise for anything near that price - so regretfully find this review not representative in terms of cost to be relevant.
Hi William, this was booked when cruising started again after lockdown, which is how we got a really cheep deal
@@sailawaymag Ah! That explains a lot. Thank you for your reply.
luck you I have paid 10x what you paid!
*gulp
Too bad non Brits cannot easily book a cruise with them.
We know the feeling, we struggle to book some American cruise lines!
