Mone at www.youtube.com/@mone42 has a journey of starting a company from scratch. Records cold calling and booked his first client not too long ago. What got my attention was the $0/month graphic that he hoped to raise.

I have no idea how to gauge if my growth is good, meh, or somewhere in between, but I posted my first video to this channel about eight weeks ago and am at 1.2k watch hours, 26.8k views, 190 subs. I know every channel is different, but I'm having a blast. Your help has been AMAZING! Thank you for the insights, tips, and inspiration.

I agree with everything you said and that last part really hit home. I had a huge momentum swing over the past 3 months and am currently over 20k subs and 5 million views... but i was feeling a bit burnt out. I have several other channels as well and have posted well over 3k videos in the last 10 years. So i decided to just take a week for me. No YT at all. Didnt even pull up my YT studio app and that was the first time in... idk how long. But i took the time to do some other passions that i dont really have the time to do and it just cleared my mind and refreshed me and i came back last week with this renewed and excited feeling and i think that came through my videos. Thanks foe the great content. Came from channel makers when u were there but i followed u over and have been here since day 1 on this channel. Love your enthusiasm and passion. 👊

I like this, very fresh take on what works, I especially love that you are encouraging to make videos about things you enjoy as this seems to be the key to longevity. This is a concept I heard MKBHD talking to Colin&Samir about, the fact that he's very glad that he didn't go viral in the early days because that could have made him chase that one video and repeat it, instead of developing the style that he's been able to develop over the years.

Nate, I agree with your take on the momentum factor. One thing I've always been curious about and I've never seen anyone address it: LUCK. How much does luck play a role in the success or failure of a channel? By luck, I primarily mean exposure given by the algorithm. As we all well know, the youtube algorithm works in mysterious ways and we're all at the mercy of it. There are definitely ways to get the algorithm to work in your favor, but sometimes despite a creator's best efforts, they're channel just never becomes successful. I've seen this with so many channels. No disrespect here, but given the same niche, I've seen many low quality videos from overall pretty low quality channels who don't seem to try very hard, achieve much higher degrees of success than creators that seem to really care and put everything they have into their channels and create great content. I've come to the conclusion that there exists a fair amount of luck involved that nobody seems to want to admit. Given the same niche, why does the youtube algorithm pick up lower quality videos in favor of high quality ones? I would love to see you address this in one of your videos and get your take on "the luck factor" if such a thing exists. Thanks Nate!

  • @coolabstractart

Thanks Nate! This resonates with me so much. I've started my channel as a way to showcase how art and nature has been therapeutic for me, but I'm not what you would call overtly 'an online person.' I hoped a few people on the internet would see my art, and maybe even be inspired by it.
I think because its my great passion in life to create abstract art, sharing them, and my excitement to keep bringing new works (and inspiration and VALUE) has proven exactly what you're advising. I didn't realize its what I'm doing, but by asking questions and making my viewers feel welcome, I'm breaking the 4th wall ... Just literally this morning, a cherished regular visitor of my channel posted a photo of ART on her community tab on HER channel, saying that to see the art reminded her of me and my art inspiration. It was the first thing I saw, and feel so humbled and surprised for the heartfelt mention.
To all who is reading this long comment, its true, all of the tips is this video gets it leveled up, and I myself will focus more on doing these specific things AND taking care of the mental health too. Thank you Nate! 🤠🤠

Funnily enough, this is exactly what I’ve been trying to work towards recently but got stuck back in burnout in the process. It’s really hard to take breaks for me and YES, I absolutely do feel like I need people’s permission to take a break.
I’m in an odd spot right now because I decided to open a second channel since my main audience on this channel doesn’t seem to be interested in my recent content. I wanted to try and open up this new channel with a bang and release a bunch of exciting content, but burnout has me stuck in bed with exhaustion. This does give me a unique opportunity though because since I haven’t uploaded anything on the new channel, there’s nobody waiting for me to upload and so I’ve made myself take a break for the last week. I don’t feel much better yet but I have been able to get other stuff done that’s been sitting on the side lines. I don’t think that I can make content in this state for very long so maybe it’s a good idea to just chill out until I feel better again (I do have a therapist to help with this, burnout is serious). Though I am still debating whether I should upload the first video already or whether its better to wait until I know I can publish more somewhat soon after.
I’m glad to see that while I may not be in the best spot to make stuff right now, my content brain has been starting to pick up on what you talked about in the video on it’s own. And that’s definitely also thanks to you!

Adding to my previous comment: thanks for the super cool and great insight, but again I’ll have to remember that for later when my channel is actually a bit larger, so that I can try to apply it!

Nate you are awesome my friend! I try to watch every vid you make and you have taught me so much. Still learning as I go and nothing wrong from that. I feel UA-cam is learning something new all the time and I love it. I will try this method what you have is and see how it goes. Dang…..😂😂😂

Dang! And that colour cube should be on the shelf in the background. It'll look odd but that's the point.

Love this channel. Nate is great. I think the thing that makes you different from the other UA-cam gurus. Well especially now that you're not part of some whatever. Could even back then is that you care about the mental health and I relate to that. And then you also get all the cool tricks and tracks. And I think better because you think of the nuances rather than just the data. Love it.
