That was just a folder where I had saved images I purchased from a stock photography website. You could also take your own photos of different textures.
Sure, but you wouldn't be able to bring back something you've erased. You could, 'undo,' but you'd have to be super precise and/or making very small erasing movements. It's way easier to just make a layer mask, and all that takes is clicking one button, so I don't know why you wouldn't.

i have a question...if you havent created a mask,could you do the same thing with eraser tool?
