Ghost Immobiliser saves £30k Land Rover - But how could we stop it getting as far as it did.

  • In under 20 seconds, our customer's vehicle was effortlessly started by the wannabe thieves all that remained was additional time for seat and steering wheel adjustments due to the owner's below-average height. The Autowatch Ghost 2 not only spared the Land Rover owner £30k but also prevented increased insurance premiums for the next 5 years.
    Currently, I'm developing a cutting-edge device to thwart unauthorized access from the outset. Paired with a CAN Blocker-style immobilizer, this comprehensive solution will render your vehicle nearly impervious to a wide range of security threats. Stay tuned for updates!

    The door was unlocked and surely the handbrakes weren't on? I wonder if small stickers on the drivers side and back saying this car is fitted with two trackers and an inside camera, will help with the prevention of stopping thieves? I would probably add 10 or more Apple trackers located all around the car. Boot, glove department, under the seats, behind the mirror, behind the steering weel, front bumber, back bumber, coffee holder, rims etc!

      The vehice WAS unlocked and this was fault of the owner, however, the electric handbrake disengaes as soon as the gear lever leaves park (by default) but yes, i do agree with the further point. Should we fit the stickers? i mean realistically it could work as a deterent, but in theory it could put the house occupants at further risk if the vehicle is worth the agro.

    Do yourselves a favour and get a pandora alarm it has anti level and anti shock sensors and a loud alarm. In two years i've had at least 50 attempts to nick my car, i don't even bother to look out the window anymore when the alarm goes off, i just know the car will still be there in the morning.

    Its a fake robbery of course. What i used to do in the Cities when visiting and parking up for a few hours, is, remove a small part of the ignition system. Back then, it was the rotor arm or coil cable. Other times, we just pulled off the plug leads or swapped them around. If i was parking in an unsafe area in modern times, i might fit a simple device of a fuse link in the battery cable but with a bypass so i could start it myself. This would enable the owner to open the car and interior lights etc would work but the starter motor would pop the fuse. I doubt many car thieves would think about location of these simple tricks.

    • @mrstupid
      @mrstupid 7 місяців тому

      I used concealed switches for many years on the old cars that had no steering lock back in the 1970s but the best method of all was to remove the rotor arm from inside the distributor. Someone did braek into my SAAB 96 in London. The door was fitted with a padlock. They broke it off just to steal the workshop manual on the back seat. I had left it there as the engine had blown up. Lot comments suggesting this looks fake, however although I agree before the days of relay theft some of these scum stole cars another way - by simply recording the cars vin from the window then faking ownership and getting a key coded direct from the idiot main dealer whilst using some clown story like lost the keys and the cars stuck in some underground car park 200 miles away.

  • @Bond2025
    @Bond2025 8 місяців тому +17

    This looks FAKE to me, the person approaching the car did not have a key or any device for unlocking the vehicle as it was already unlocked with the alarm deactivated. That's always handy when trying to advertise products as it prevents real damage. The white car also appears to have had the handbrake left off to minimise damage when the vehicle used for advertising was allowed to roll in to it.
    If you look at the way those three people walked up to the car, then one stood away from it and over the road, didn't that look odd to you?
    This type of theft is usually so fast that everyone approaches the car and gets ready to get in and drive away.
    They don't just stand watching from a distance!
    The way this sort of theft can be defeated is very simple, change the system inside the car. Take advice from security experts instead of not being willing to pay for that and prevent this whole mess developing and devaluing the Brand completely.
    You don't need thousands spent to protect the car with catchy or fancy names. Simple RFID circuit linked to a switch, or just a physical hidden switch linked to a fuel pump or ECU will do the trick for less than £5 fitted. Anyone can do it. Then improvements can be made on the OBD2 side of things and the way the modules speak to the ECU, this is very open to abuse at the minute.

    • @senator7352
      @senator7352 8 місяців тому +6

      Because like most people they probably left the keys right next to the front door, allowing easy a range mitm attack to take place, You mention a simple rfid circuit or a physical switch, but these people arent silly, if they go around using a mitm device they know to look for switches or mechanisms installed to prevent theft (Like how he put his phone on the floor to look under the pedals for the exact switches you spoke about)

    • @senator7352
      @senator7352 8 місяців тому +12

      TLDR; This could have just been prevented if either keyless entry is disabled or they put their keys in a fariday cage, either one would have solved the problem initially
