All cats in the late 90s/early 2000s were pig rich on jetting. Had a 97 440 like yours and went down to 310s ran amazing on 32 to 1 premix. Block off plate for oil pump removal and grease fittings to lube that water pump/oil pump gear. Had black magic twins for it too but were waaaaay to finiky to jet for aggressive trail riding. The stock pipe is really the way to go, they were and are one of cats best ever racers. Mine was june early build and had more advanced timing, later builds were changed due to warranty issues/ burndowns. Please have more content on the 97, which I call the people's snopro. Only year the race sled was sold to the general public. Keep up the good work guys!
Idk how much it would cost but JE piston make custom pistons. Probably already know but just thought id mention it just in case u didn’t. F7 triple sounds amazing
Ex arctic mostly stock class drag racer . As a general rule . You tune jetting first . To establish engine power . Then you tune the clutching to match the engine power to the chassis . And conditions . All 2 strokes respond to leaner jetting . At higher rpm ( shift speed ) they become more throttle responsive Also . But there is a give and take to everything . A triple is more conventional in this regard . ( long proven by Polaris guys ) they like to be crisp and lean . For top end power . But trust me a large bore twin . Especially base reed induction like cats . There are gains to had . Running the motor more rich . You will lose some top end power . But gain tremendous mid range torque . Which with clutch tuning . Can be a advantage . Accelerating out of a corner . Or from a starting line . It’s a matter of enhancing . The big bore twins . Attributes . Remember all these sleds are big bore . And a sled is a heavy object with a track that’s difficult to turn at speed . Needing midrange . The motorcycle world decided long ago that 125cc is the best size for a single cylinder . Hence the 4 cylinder 500 in GP days . But it’s a high rpm deal . All in all requires experimenting . But don’t rule out slightly richer and make the engine work harder . ( clutching )

Did not expect that firecat to sound like that..... BLOWN OUT OF THE WATER when the hood was opened up!
Love the videos love the podcast. Why don’t you guys run egt’s? I’ve alway ran them on sleds I’ve built at least for initial jetting.
Looks like fun
Sweet video I might come up to pine lake Saturday for a bit
Lets go with the money fan class!! I still have my 02!!
@@rewadena4371 I know where my dads 99 is. Could get it in the garage within a day lol
They always run better just before they blow up.
So true
Where can I find the rules and classes list? How would I start vintage racing is what I’d like to know
How do you check piston wash in the field?
Look in the spark plug hole with a light.
