In this interview, Lindsay Dixon sits down with Michael Boivin BSc.Phm CDE to discuss the science behind obesity, why it's increasingly difficult to lose weight as we age and the new shift to focus on a concept called "Best Weight" focusing on value based goals rather than just a number on a scale. If you're struggling with weight management or obesity, or you are a healthcare professional who wants to better help your community, this interview will give you the answers you've been looking for.

weight, I felt the struggle discussed in this video deeply. Overcoming societal pressures, I embarked on a weight loss journey. The video resonates as it unveils the challenges-our bodies resisting, age complicating the process, and the frustrating cycle of gains and losses. Plateaus felt like setbacks, testing my determination. The speaker's insights mirror my journey. In this uphill battle, Aspect Health became vital. A quiet acknowledgment that beyond the numbers, overall well-being matters. The journey is ongoing, but understanding the complexities eases the path.

I often look into the origins of words, often they have Latin roots.
      Obesity
Obedere seems to mean eating everything.

Because retaining and building a little muscle does not sell magazines and get clicks...

Appreciate this comment. As someone who started strength training last year, this is definitely something we will be discussing in a future episode.

OK so the takeaway is forget about weight loss, it’s not going to happen, it’s baked into your DNA from before recorded time. We’re all hooped. If you want to lose weight get a gastric bypass operation or hope semaglutide will bail you out. So pass the cookies!
Actually I have heard this narrative many times but remember it’s just a hypothesis. I tend more towards the opinion that it’s far more complicated than that. I think inability to lose weight is more to do with addictions, lifestyle, commercial interests (e.g. ads for chips v. ads for carrots!), psychology around boredom, metabolic variances etc.
Just to say that we’re all forced to eat by some prehistoric influence from a gazillion years ago seems a bit simplistic and specious to me.
My diet: if it tastes good spit it out!!

I didn't hear him say that but it will be interesting to see what he says when the whole video is posted.
I mainly agree with you, except that tastes for foods can be cultivated and changed.
If someone creates a hobby out of losing weight through thinking about food, it's sure to be a failure, if someone adopts a new hobby such as rock climbing and quits obsessing over food it's more likely to be a success.
If you're busy climbing rocks (or wherever other physical activity) there's less time available for watching food advertisements.

@@mballer I don’t disagree, keeping busy at something that is not in close proximity to the kitchen can definitely help! But for many people weight loss is perhaps in the 1500-1800 kcal per day range. It’s incredibly easy to eat that many calories and to do so over a long period of time is extremely challenging to say the least. Exercise is of course a positive piece of lifestyle for overall health and contributes to weight control but appropriate diet remains the key to weight loss. I hasten to confess that I am no scientific expert on the topic, just an average person who has experience with the ups and downs of weight loss!!
