They also improved the filter on the se1x. I had the se1 and the stepping of the filter was a little annoying; however, I had both at some point and they both sounded identical, the main deference was that you now had 4 banks with sounds instead of one, and the better tuned envelopes and filter… oh and an audio input. I’ll never sell mine, if you need warm basses, this is it🤙🏼
Bloody great work! Doesn’t matter about the shaky camera - you showed howit was done and the audio demo was all you could ask for. Great job that man 👍. I’m interested in a 3x and this is a great idea of what I can expect with the extra frills. I’ve seen you on GS and I’ll pass on my respects next time I see you post. Thanks a bunch 😁🙏
Thanks for that overview. Installation seems a bit more involved that I though but doable still. The new upgrade also gives access to the fine control of the oscillators (via shift + Frequency I believe) which was also via manu before. Great synth though and nice of SE tp make these enhancements backward compatible with 20+year old units!
Super video! So glad you did this. I have an SE-1X "Angel Dust" Nova (white) edition, and I was considering this upgrade too. Would be nice if you could make another video showing the 3 voice paraphonic mode, as I'm curious about that. Also, did the new chip bring any new preset banks? According to their website, a special "para" bank (I guess to take advantage of the 3 voices) was supposed to be release end of June. Maybe there are also new presets to take advantage of the additional two SE-3X filters (which obviously wouldn't apply to a chip-upgraded SE-1X)? Anyways, cracking video!
Great, but how can you choose and change the various types of filters that are seen on original se3? there aren't those additional controls on se1x that you see on se3.
The SE-1X has two filter types, on the front panel you have a button underneath the frequency knob that toggles between Moog 24dB & Oberheim 12db, then in the menu you can toggle the 12db between Lowpass and bandpass. I understand the SE-3X has 4 filter types.
Yes the se3 has a minipot Switch and than fuor filter. I want upgrade my se1x but I think that It can’t changes in Arp 2600 filter but only two filter 24 db and 12db for BP and LP. Is it true?
@@dariocasillo8455 Yes true, the upgrade won't give you the extra filters as they are hardware analog circuits and this is only a software/firmware upgrade.
@@canecreek00 Ah ok, thanks. I also saw on the official upgrade video in which they used an SE-3X that the new filter boards were just retro fitted to the SE-1X board. Would be great if this could be done as an upgrade. ua-cam.com/video/Emm8jlbkbTU/v-deo.html
@@logikslave : You would need to send your SE-1 to Studio Electronics to be upgraded to an SE-1X first... They actually offer that as combo upgrade with installing the new SE-3X.
I wonder what part of "Rom Chip upgrade" made you think of sound test? If you want steady film set style theres plenty of YT influencers out there that make a career out of it, i couldn't give a shit and i was just showing where the chip was installed, you don't need hollywood for that.

I'm glad I came across your vid. I didn't know this upgrade was available.

Great video thanks! Would you be able to provide more info on how to acquire the ROM upgrade? Don’t seem to see info or pricing on their site.
On my iPhone I simply went to their website, chose menu, online shop and the Rom was the first thing that came up in the list for $80.
Where'd you get the ROM chip? Is an image available?

@@canecreek00 grazie gentilissimo.
Great vid, thanks. I notice the SE-3X has the drive switch next to the envelope selector. Is this feature in the menu on the upgrade?
No, the drive is new to the SE-3X, it’s a hardware circuit something that can’t be implemented via firmware on the SE-1X

Great video I have the exact v0.75 but I’ll keep it like it is if the envelope are not faster. Happy has pig in shit ahahahah !
hello, for this you need se1x or se1x'19?

Will this work on SE-1 original?
@SYNTHPUNK ORIGINAL I actually reached out to SE directly and they said only SE-1x is upgradable…Did you have another experience?

At least, have a camera operator so you can do the work. That would have made the video shorter and easier to watch.
Man, you have a serious problem with your hands stability! And....20minutes talking with 2minutes of sound test wtf!!
