Ah I didn't know Rory lynch was your father. That's awesome!!! You work in your family's business. 👍
Sound of my Childhood! I do wish I could turn back the clock sometimes.
also diesel smell..
@@ottopalosaari8685 The fact you cant get it as an aftershave is rediculous
@@SamK93 😂
Same here. I used to work with dad in one when he was a lowloader driver for the tarmac firm he worked for.
yeah mine also, i was always with my dad when he worked as a truck driver..
we had own scania 3 series streamline 500 v8, it was awesome.
Worked at Volvo Trucks when these F16 was introduced with Frame assembly and remembered that we workers went to a launch event where we got a white jumper with 470 Power on, sadly I have not saved it. It just show how times pass quickly now these trucks are rare veterans, instead of everyday sights. To get a bigger engine than Scanias V8 was always nice!
😂 "just sign the f#&king docket". The other side of staveros. Great video.
This is the truck which made me fall in love with this magnificent brand
For my thad is the FH12 serie 1
Such a great and nostalgic truck really a cool truck
I remember when them f16s came out I was 13 years old and away in school holidays with me dad in c reg Scania 142 which we thought was king off the road we were clearing customs at Dover and were setting away and infront was a f16 which we had never heard of as we approach the Whitfield hill we couldn’t believe the power of that Volvo the firs truck to out pull us
I was born in 1988.
And, as my father is a mechanic, I got to spend some time in many Volvos - and trucks of many years.
I have to say:
Times have moved on in a great way.
Trucks now are easier than ever, but it is still very difficult, and not for every one.
Fortunately now, the trucks is built around the driver, and to ease his/her life.
Moreover, trucks are more comfortable than ever.
Despite this, the endurance is not for everyone, and the capacity of working in difficult situations - of navigating, especially in countries where different languages are spoken - and resilience, is not for everyone.
Trucks are a passion!
And I love all trucks.
Thank you for sharing
Can’t believe you found it! We spoke about this two years ago at Truckfest Peterborough haha
S H Yes, couldn’t believe it myself😃
Great footage Stavaros! I'm amazed about the quality after 32 years. You should do more of these videos. There are very few of them on UA-cam. Great stuff!!
I would of been 3 when that footage was film. I can remember my dad driving trucks from that time.
Brought back a lot of good memories, thank you.
Great vlog
The mighty 470 !! That was a truck
Rory dressed nice and formal, very professional.
Fantastic quality Stavros. Thank you.
Thebigbowler I was speaking with retired drivers and some of them wore elegant clothes while driving local or long distance. Now you call elegant a driver dressed in jeans with a polo shirt and some nice shoes/sneakers. In a cargo terminal in Hamburg I see all the drivers dressed either in work clothes like Engelbert Strauss or sportier like Decathlon or just some random shorts and t-shirts worn just for the sake of being dressed.
@@connectorxp and you should the drivers at Dover:-)...like cave men most of them
@@mickadatwist1620 I prefer my ES work clothes.
Well done Stavros, you were ahead of your time, this footage is old gold. Night heater! Who thought that would catch on. 470hp, no traction control, no ABS, you had to be able to drive back then. The Gloccamaura is a good place to see what they can do. You were even looking for air on the steer axle back then. Nice low centre of gravity with the sand. It will be interesting in another 32years for people to look back to today. Looking forward to more nostalgia
Great video of a time when drivers drove lorries. A snap shot of a time we will never see again. F16 Is a beauty...Thanks for sharing...
It’s was my grandads best truck he drove! It’s was is pride and joy! He drove for 55 years! I was only 6 when he got it. I don’t remember much of inside. I do know it was quick on motorway though with no speed limiters fitted ! I had may a good tale from him from people he knew. Eddie Stobart back when he’s was one man band.
I got my CE license here in Sweden in a F10 back in 1991. Also drove FL7/10 on my first job. Very modern trucks for its time. I liked them.
Nice video! No seat belts and a cig in the demo F16!
excellent, sometimes i wish i went into truck driving when i was younger, like me dad and brother
This was worth the wait absolutely brilliant, i bet back then you wouldn't have ever thought you would be were you are now with a No1 UA-cam channel. Thanks for sharing Stavros.
Cracking video. Love seeing the older stuff from back in the day
Very good footage, 1 thing I particularly liked is the fact the McCarthy dealership is still there after all this time.
Mr Stavros, i was born in 1980 and i remember my father driving a volvo f89 and later jumped to his very own f12 400. Hearing the engine revving and the "click-clack" of that gentleman half gear selecting, immediately triggered a memory many many years ago i thought it was forgotten. Now i am at work, crying my eyes out
My Grandfather had both an F12 400 & F16 470 when he was self employed, I know the F16 did regular trips from the UK to the middle East and back. Even though I was very young at the time in 1998 I can still hear a straight piped F16 coming from two miles away. What a sound :)
Wow Stavros, this footage brings memories from my childhiod back! My dad owned (in order) a volvo f7 rigid, a volvo f16 470 bulk artic and later a volvo fh12 460 bulk artic.. I promised to myself to not to cry watching this video😂😂 greetings from Italy, stay healthy and keep Rolling💪💪
Gianluca Goso my father is working in Italy and a l remember when is driving that Volvo thet sound of turbo motor engine break that was bee imagine truck for thet time by the way he was working for the one firm in Russi (RA) salute di Croatia
I just started a new job and have been put in a Volvo F12 tipper.
Brand new 480hp engine.
For a 30yr old truck, it goes better, handles better, the brakes are fantastic and the cab ride is better than most newer KWs, Macks, Freightliners and Western Stars I’ve driven, and puts Ivecos to shame.
I’m so impressed with this Volvo- it’s a great truck!
Love the old Volvo trucks
That old video was great to see all the old cars on the road and stuff.. Watergrasss hill hasn't changed much..
Thanks Stravros. In 1988 I was only 18 and I was full of passion for trucks. Now the world has changed but the passion is always the same and seeing these videos today confirms that I liked the right things 😄👍
Sights of my childhood growing up in 80s Ireland! Great to see!
Leonard Carr yes there were Africans in the 1980s. What sort of question is that?
Leonard Carr you’ll be happy with the simple answer so.
I loved watching this just to see the old cars on the street. 80's autos are favourite era of cars.
Ahh the old road before bypasses and motorways, was great driving back then, 👍stavros
This is my favorite truck my dad drove one when he was younger and it was beautifull😍😍 btw love your videos mate♥️🤟🏼
My Dad did too! Many fond memories riding with him
Yep same here😁
many memories i have of climbing that hill years ago .
Brill to see classic video
Well done 32 years ago
the sound of that engine is lovely.
Now this take me back. I used to go to work with my dad “when kids were allowed” back in the 80s & 90s. He was a lowloader driver for a tarmac company and i remember when his firm got this insane Volvo with 400hp it was the pride of the fleet. My dad who’s now retired said to this day it was probably one of the best, if not the best HGV tractor unit he ever drove. Powerful, comfortable & far in front of its competitors.
Did anyone else really enjoy just seeing the background how different it is from now...so much greener and clean...
wow...He is looking really dressed up and fancy just for test driving a new truck. Great video. So cool to hear how the salesman was talking about all the things that are taken for granted as standard today
yes the video ive been waiting for my favourite truck spent many a night in the globetrotter with me stepdad those times are long gone
Good afternoon. Great decade the 80s, good music, good vehicles, love and peace. I also liked the F16.
This is pure gold!
Great video Stavros. Even back then you could tell you had a hand on the tapeing and presentation👍 Fair play to the salesman driving the F12, he new the product well and had prepared for the open day and product launch. Back in 1984 I worked as a demo driver with a Mercedes Benz truck dealership and launched the 814. Very similar couple of days to this one you and Rory attended. The guy in the F16 could use some lessons😀. Starting to open up here in Florida and Georgia my daily travels. Traffic is going to get crazy again, but I have been fortunate to have worked through this unusual period. 🏴🇺🇸👍
Simply brilliant!! Well done Stav and l can't wait to see the next nostalgic episode. Thanks
Brill you found it then . Great video . Bringing back memories . Thanks.....
Always enjoy watching your videos. Cheers from Belgium! :-)
AYYYY you got it!
If you want Stavros to do a video on (insert truck name here), then go email him if you know someone who could let him review it for a day!
Great video as always! really cool that you found the footage!!
had to watch it again the f16 is unreal
Great videos stavros. Helping my head through these times. Thanks for all your hard work !!
Man what a find, I was equally pausing to look at the cars on the road as well.
Thank you Stavros, what a time it must have been, and naturally you did find the gear :D
cannot beat the sound of a old volvo engine 1st truck I drove 1976 F88 290 then 1983 F1020 good memories
That's amazing footage to have, Stavros. I wish I had videos of being on the road in the truck with my Dad. He drove for Connacht Court Group/Linen Supply Of Ireland but is retired from driving now. A few of their Volvos might have even been in that yard at the time in 1988 😁
Love it. VOLVO for ever.-
The 1988 video was good stuff and good production quality, considering the video equipment available at the time. Interesting to see what has changed over the years.
Bilal, from Pakistan.
Hi Bro. I was waiting for your video.
Thanks, God bless you.
There is no F16 in Hong Kong but I did remember the F12 I hop in. Just amazing how the space it has comparing the majority Japanese trucks there. I even more amazing when I hop in a Renault Major 6x4. Hope you could find more classic trucks to test and share to us.
subscribed more old footage please takes me back to my childhood.
Wow glad you found it and shared it with us. Big fan great channel
Thanks so much for sharing it stavros it was ace! ❤🙏
Great video fine truck 👍
She sounds well !
The sound of that engine bring back some great memories, my Dad owned a F12, pride of the fleet at the time! Loved it, thanks for posting that vid!
We had a volvo F10 as a recovery truck, back in the day when you could lift trucks with a chain and a unit that went into the 5th wheel on any tractor unit! Brought back fond memories! Thanks Stavros!
Great footage Stavros. Ireland was so different in 1988 not just in haulage terms.
My uncle has an f16. Sadly we couldn’t show it this year cuz of Coronavirus
Be great if Stavros could do a video on it once all the Bullshit has passed.
British registration on the F16 1987 E plate! Lovely wagon that

Great VOLVO engine sound

F12/F16 was my favorite truck during my teenage period. 😍 This is legend!!! 😎 When I made pictures on Truckshow last year, owners from Scania 143 was very jealous 🤣
Great video Stavros, I’m actually 32 years old so this is from a time I never saw.
I wasn't even born yet but here we are......looking at what happened before I was born then later came in 1997. Thanks Stavros
Amazes me every time when I gather how immensely powerful the F12 engines used to be for their era. Especially when a mechanic had "altered" it just a little.
Great video Stavros. Brilliant to see. Thanks. 👍 👍 👍
Loved the video place looks so different now
A great video, thanks for sharing the old tape as well. Took me back to my old F10 when I was younger. 👍👍
I was testdriving the 400 F12 and the F16 470 in Bodø, Norway the very same year. The exhaustbrake on the F16 was astonishing. Years go by😌
good afternoon Stavros and great footage from 1988 with the awesome Volvo f16, Stay safe and enjoy the week.

My school holidays i was always away in the lorry with dad.
