John M Thanks for your thoughts. The jury is still out here. I'm refraining from clear coating any of the parts I've sprayed brown at this point. I'm going to present the question better in my next episode by showing the brown parts vs. black parts next to the tank.
I think black is always great looking for the frame, but in this case I would trust your gut and experiment a bit. It might come out much better than your expectations too. Maybe consider either a darker or much lighter tone of the brown so that it adds contrast and doesn't become overwhelming. Just a thought off the top of my head... It's looking great so far!
Chris of the Mall Thanks for your well-thought-out comments. I'm simultaneously looking for a darker brown while assessing whether I like this leather color.
I personally love the colors you picked. I like a richer leather look as far as the browns go also the leather grips on the market today look amazing and you get a nice comfortable grip. I paint the frames on my show bikes primarily any other color but sometimes black is needed to make it look right.
@@UrbanMonkTV you rock I love the details and like you I am on a spiritual journey and building a GS550 1981 from a basket case bike. I also play music and you can look me up on youtube [ Al Stone official ] some good some bad video. Keep the great video's coming. peace, love, and light, to you and family.

wildman50645 Thanks! I just saw the latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage and he features a Lotus Cortina with the same colors! I felt affirmed. 😊
