*My Shadow Always Follows Me "* I do not care for princely grace Or honeyed words from powdered faces. That perfume scent of wealth and pride Has me sick to death! My heart is light, my dreams are wild. I want to live life to the fullest Free as a bird and burning like a spark. Instead I serve some dark and invisible ghost. My shadow always follows me No matter how I try to flee. I cannot crawl out of my skin. I can’t escape my destiny! It wasn’t my choice to be what I was born to be, But it’s my fate; I can’t break free. My shadow always follows me! What good is immortality To someone who has hardly known life? The stale smell of laurel wreath Reminds me of death! What is a perfect symphony compared to making love all night long? No sound, no tune, comes ever near the bliss Of some forbidden kiss. I found it here on UA-cam and downloaded it as an mp3 file. Because you can do that. Specifically, it is the English demo of the song “Wie wird man seinen Schatten los?” from the German-language musical Mozart! Singer is a Dutch musical theater actor named Odeo Kuipers.
@@remnants9974 the original is raising the question on how to get rid of the shadow and how to leave the past behind. But it is a string of questions rather than a statement. By asking rhetorical questions you get a certain desperation and frustration about the situation. The English version is more reflective but at the same time implements that change is not possible whereas the German version is still carrying that hope that someone might know and that it might be possible.
I think it's a pretty good translation, the German version is better, but this is a decent translation, considering it stands alone. It gets the point across pretty well in my opinion.
thank you so much for taking the time to write the lyrics out!
You're welcome! :)
I finally found the English version OMGG aaaaaa
my god this is AWESOME.
I love this so much, do you have the lyrics written down somewhere? I can’t seem to find the proper ones anywhere on the net.
Nope, just as they appear in the video thanks to me transcribing this by ear. But I can write out the lyrics here if you want.
*My Shadow Always Follows Me
"*
I do not care for princely grace
Or honeyed words from powdered faces.
That perfume scent of wealth and pride
Has me sick to death!
My heart is light, my dreams are wild.
I want to live life to the fullest
Free as a bird and burning like a spark.
Instead I serve some dark and invisible ghost.
My shadow always follows me
No matter how I try to flee.
I cannot crawl out of my skin.
I can’t escape my destiny!
It wasn’t my choice to be what I was born to be,
But it’s my fate; I can’t break free.
My shadow always follows me!
What good is immortality
To someone who has hardly known life?
The stale smell of laurel wreath
Reminds me of death!
What is a perfect symphony compared to making love all night long?
No sound, no tune, comes ever near the bliss
Of some forbidden kiss.
There’s so much I miss.
My shadow always follows me
No matter how I try to flee.
I cannot crawl out of my skin.
I can’t escape my destiny!
It wasn’t my choice to be what I was born to be,
But it’s my fate; I can’t break free!
My shadow always follows me!

This is so good! Where did you find this song? I so want to add it to my Spotify! But sadly I can’t find it

I feel like it's worth adding that the German-language version is on Spotify if you want that!
Eine kurze Erwähnung wäre schön gewesen...
This sounds so weak compared to German version
Wow... It's a shame that they changed the meaning of the song. The German version is so much better.
it feels somewhat less poetic, but how do you feel they changed meaning?
