Thanks for the info. Learned a lot in watching.
Very useful informations. Thank you very much!
Excellent presentation. I have a 2x 1.25" Barlow, and now a 3x my wife gave me as a gift. I'm going to purchase a 2" 2x Barlow so I don't have to reduce eyepiece size and for options. Two nights ago, it was 21 degrees fahrenheit outside at dusk, but I wanted to see Mars and the Crab Nebula which followed in early evening. Instead of subjecting the 8" Dobsonian to the plummeting Rocky Mountain temperatures, I chose to try from inside some large windows in my green room and kitchen which I had cleaned earlier in the day. I started viewing in the green room, looking southeast. I got good views of Jupiter just at dusk, even through double glass of the structure, then moved on to my targets. Mars was low in the sky when it came over the ridge, so I checked out the Seven Sisters with the 28mm 2" eyepiece while killing time. By the time Mars was high enough to clear a screen on the east facing door glass I was viewing through, frost started building up due to plummeting temperatures outside. Mars finally rose above the frost line, so I switched to a 1.25" adapter, 25mm eyepiece, then Barlow. Once magnified, I could never get it into clear focus, although I could see that it was in a crescent. Part of the problem is no doubt that I was introducing distortion by looking through two panes of window glass, and likely frost not visible to the eye. Things got too frosty out there to even try Crab nebula, so I moved the rig inside to view from the large kitchen window. Orion was waiting, so I got great views of the Nebula using the 2" 28mm eyepiece. I quickly set up the 4.5EQ just for side by side viewing using similar eyepieces (a 25mm on the 4.5). It was a fun experiment, and another evening viewing as I learn the telescopes.
Better than nothing. Yes it was the window and seeing, but at least you could enjoy some objects. Better nights will come for sure, to go outside.
@@DobsonianPower, yes sir, better nights are coming in a few months. I'm new to the hobby, and I'm researching, studying, and peeking out at night every chance I get.
...I skipped the last three nights even in the green room, because it was 3, -1, and 5 degrees fahrenheit each night. Back to the teens after two more single digit nights, so I'll set up before dusk and observe for a little while.
Clear skies!
Very informative video . Thank you.
Thanks for the easy to understand video!
👍👍
Hey, sir! Am actually researching some Barlows and upgraded eye pieces before buying. I enjoyed your video and found it insightful, but quick and to the point. Thanks! Sub’d. 👍
Going to watch the “Before/After” video now!
Clear skies!
Good info, thanks.
👍👌
I used a 2 inch (2X) barlow on my 8 inch Newtonian with a Zwo533 as imaging camera. Discovered that the barlow was a serious dew - magnet...
Dew is terrible
Thank you very much for your videos, Today i bought a skywatcher 8'' dobsonian Classic and im very excited
Congratulations 👍👍
I'm buying GSO 8" dobsonian tomorrow
@@eMBO_Gaming congrats 👍
@@DobsonianPower Thanks, now when I have it I absolutely love the views. Dobsonian power forever 💪
@@eMBO_Gaming that's the spirit 🪐💪
Thanks.... you are really a guidance to all level amateurs.....
thanks!
Super Chanel 😄👍❗.
What do you think about 2" ED GSO Barlow 2X?
Should be fine👍
First night using my 150p virtuoso gti with my 5 year old son. Uses two 2x Barlow with stock 10mm eye piece. Saw the 4 moons and just could about see the the read and brown bands on Jupiter. Bit hazy but was slight clouds. To improve visual and maybe closer visual would you recommend a lower mm eyepiece to use with my 2x Barlow
Congratulations. You were at the best balanced magnification for good seeing. Lower will give you sharper views at the expense of smaller objects.
So would a combination of a 9mm lens and a 3x barlow work well for a celestron 130slt
Sam, this online tool answer all your questions. You can experiment with different set ups to know what to expect. It has visual and imaging too astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view
Would there be a need for me to buy a 2" 2× Barlow for a couple of low magnification , high fov , es eyepieces if I have the 1.25 2× for my other eyepieces . 🇨🇦🖖
The 2" barlow allow you to use any eyepiece with it. Even those with 1.25" if you use an adapter
nice video ty. At 1:09 u mean maximum useful magnification ?
yes
I am looking to buy a budget telescope for viewing planets and more but confused which one should I buy with what eyepiece?help will be appreciated!

hi sir, i already buy Celestron Nexstar 6 SLT Computerized Telescope. Can you suggest what barlow lens should i buy? 2x? 2.5x? 3x? or 5x? Thank You.
2x
hello i bought a 3x barlow before watching this but does it make it blurry if my focal length is 1000 and i use a 10mm eypieceor 20 mm eypiece and wich eyepiece is better to use with the 3x barlow
use the 20mm will get you around 7. use with 10mm will get you around 3mm, may be too much for your sky. use on the 20mm
ok thanks
hello, few weeks ago I bought my first scope. the skywatcher explorer 150pds. And now I am thinking to buy a barlow lens for visual and later on for astrophotography.
its a 6inch, which mean 6 x 50=300x
so my max magnification is 300x
telescope fc is 750mm and the eyepiece I have is a 28mm
so 750/28= 26,78....
so it is okay to get the 5x barlow? because 26,78.. x 5 = 133,9x ?
Do you have any advice which barlow lens I should get? :D
or is it better to get a new eyepiece? My scope has f/5
so if I understand it correctly I should get a 5mm eyepiece?
sorry for asking so many question xD
thankyou
Both are a good choice. The advantage of the 5x is that besides your eyepiece, can also be used with a camera to the planets and the moon.
Did you get a 5x barlow after all?:D
@@meloney hi! No, after doing some research and asking what the best option was to a community online
I decided to buy the 2x 😃
@missypermata yea, propably for the best, I thought about getting a x5 as well, but even with the 2x I'm waaay to magnified for many deep sky objects with my celestron SLT 130 and my Nikon D5200 already, even without the 2x I can't even fit the Orion Nebula in one Photo :(
Hey man i gotta ask you at this point as i can see, so i have a bresser ar 102/460 i got on it a ts optics hr 7mm which works very well and thrn then a 3× svbony barlow, there's an issue tho, on moon eveything is fine, on saturn almost everything is fine if not that looks quite a bit like i cant focus, while if i move on jupiter It literally cant focus i don't understand why, even if my max useful magnification is 204× and with the 7mm+barlow i reach 197×, ideas?😢
On the moon is easy. Planets harder. If you could try a 2x barlow to test would be nice
@@DobsonianPower Otherwise i was thinking about getting an eyepiece with a 30° field of wiew but i told you, i don't really know plus i just saw Jupiter once, i could give it more times plus i didnt go away from my city even tho at that time theres no light almost and low light pollution
@@DobsonianPower like the point is that on jupiter it really appears blurry, if i use a 67× magnification i swear there are probably more details, this thing makes me so rage because mathematically i didnt get over the useful max magnification and so it looks almost so unbeliavable that jupiter appears blurry
@@pierspinelli8352 maybe with a perfect seeing. But i would lower it to 2x. More magnification doesn't mean more detail
@@DobsonianPower Yeah that's true i think i'll go for a 2× barlow then!
what would it be for a 600mm telescope? im having trouble converting to inches
2x doubles, doesn't matter if it's inches or cm
Simple and clear! 👍
👍
If you want to use a 5x barlow, get an expensive quality one so that the image doesnt get too much dimmer
👍
Why a Barlow? Why not focal extenders i.e. the Explore Scientific 2x focal extender or Tele Vue 2x Powermate?
you can. i have mostly focal extenders from ES and Televue.
@@DobsonianPower
As I understand focal extenders are better in general.
Yes they are
Can u recommend me a barlow lens for my 130eq
THE 2X SHOULD WORK, ORE REMOVE THE BOTTOM LENS AND SCREW TO THE END OF EYEPIECE, WORKS GREAT
Celestron omni 2x. Great entry barlow. Under 40 bucks
2 inch or 1.25 inch?
I use both sizes but my 2" luminos was 140 bucks but even the 1.25 omni is a great 2x barlow for entry level. And to be honest there not much difference in visual quality. But if using my camera there is a big difference due to sensor size.
"What!"Oh S***!" 😁
Which barlow lens would be best for a Celestron Astromaster 130EQ?
Best advice i can give you is to simulate here: astronomy.tools/calculators/field_of_view but usually a GOOD 2x barlow is a safe bet
@@DobsonianPowerThank you very much!! But I bought this too late. Hope it's fine.
Celestron 93428 1,25 inç X-Cel LX 3x Barlow Lens
@@utkugogus268 should work fine 👍
@@DobsonianPowerThank you! 👍
Couldn't said any better, you could also remove the 2x lens and screw to the eyepiece. clear skies
Yes in a barlow No in a focal extender
