This is a music video to the music of "Nothing Better" by the Postal Service. It was shot as part of a class project for a field video production class at Chico State
Man I love The Postal Service. Their songs totally described my life back in 05-06. I went through a really rough breakup and their music really helped me.
Im 26 and ive known this song for what feels like forever and ive never needed it more in my life than today. I dont want to say goodbye. Im not ready. But i have to. And its all by my own hand.
We picked this song because a) we love Ben Gibbard and b) the story is easy to follow. The shots were hard to get because none of us had shot a music video before. The solution was to shoot as much as possible and edit a lot in post-production. Thanks for your kind words.
This whole CD changed my life. I found this 16 years ago and have had this CD on my ipod through all of the 15 years since. I want to thank The Postal Service for the imact they made on my musical life and how so many songs of theirs give me a different experience throughout all the years ive enjoyed them. ❤
i never pictured this song as a phone call between them. i enjoyed the end that she finally hung up when she says "say goodbye" and then cuts to him as if he just heard it for the echo and u can see his reaction to that
@MangoBirdiee This was shot with a Canon GL1 (first released in 2001). The quality of video this camera produces and its overall limitations greatly impacted the results. Since late 2007, high-definition video cameras have become more mainstream and it seems as though everyone's forgotten about the "olden days". Our team managed to piec together a linear story that fits the song and share it with UA-cam over 5 years ago.
I love this song because the singer's talking about true love. He doesn't like the girl because she's pretty, he just wants to be with her and grow old with her. It's so romantic.
Man, I saw this 4 years ago when it was first featured...and somewhere in my deep archives of favorites, there it lies, and now it is a recent favorite once more.
Good thing this is The Postal Service and not Death Cab for Cutie. I actually had to look up the video you mentioned because I've never seen it. And as for the cuts, you're probably right. This was the first major project I ever edited.
i am so happy to see that there's a discussion here between whether it was a hockey goalie or a soccer goalie. did anyone else see her look back at the cop all fast when she's driving hahaha
i firstheard this song 2 1/2 yrs ago while taking a walk listening to pandora on my phone. i was recovering from surgery and dealing with my wife wanting a divorce, it stopped me in my tracks ...it made too much sense hearing it at the time. it still hurts
every time i listen to the song i have to constantly tell my stop to singing so I can hear how incredible ben is. favorite bassline from DCFC and the postal Service out of any song.
They're not in the same room while talking to each other, it was symbolic of how they were feeling. The guy was outside the whole time while she was in the car and trashing his apartment.
PATRICK!!! I cannot believe you posted this. Thanks to the people who said I'm hot. You guys are too, I just know it. BTW This was a class project and we didn't exactly have the resources to make this video what it could have been. But I think we were all pretty happy with the way it turned out. Also, how do we manage to get people criticizing us for taking the song too literally and lecturing us about what sport he's talking about in the same response? People never cease to amaze me...
Nice vid. I like the idea of setting it up around a telephone conversation. It provides the story with context and parameters. Also, there were some creative shots. I'm excited to see another vid.
That main purpose of the fade to white scenes (not in front of the restaurant) was to differentiate between the main character's fantasies and problems. Thus, the literal translation of the metaphors was highly intentional.
I like that this song has some pretty clear lyrics. Nothing left for any interpretations. And still, or maybe thats why, its such a sad song to me. Maybe because I feel right the way the singer (Ben) does.
actually they made seperate pieces of this song and sent to each other because they were pretty far away from each other and eventually put it together in the end, so that's pretty cool :]
I'm just happy that so many years later, this video is still up on UA-cam. I found it 10 (or more!) years ago. Loved it then, love it now :)
Man I love The Postal Service. Their songs totally described my life back in 05-06. I went through a really rough breakup and their music really helped me.
I love the song, i love the album (well, the first seven songs are all strong), and a great video, well done.

Never gets old. Love love love this
They're not actually in the same room, it was symbolic.
I love this song because the singer's talking about true love. He doesn't like the girl because she's pretty, he just wants to be with her and grow old with her. It's so romantic.

I really feel like this video captures the essence of the song. spot on.

Man, was all about this album in fall 2004, things didn't go as expected, Nostalgic as shit.
that was fun. i enjoyed it. especially the classic head turn towards the camera to begin singing. lol
this song is my guilty pleasure :)
They're not in the same room while talking to each other, it was symbolic of how they were feeling. The guy was outside the whole time while she was in the car and trashing his apartment.
It's been 20 years since the album!
I love this song! It just made me almost cry a little! I love the postal services' lyrics! x
haha i love how literal you took the lyrics...when you were in front of the soccer net was out of control.
Cool video. I absolutely love this song.

Will forever be my favorite song since I bought this album in 2002. The Xx “hold on” is 2nd.
You just put my thoughts into words.
I'm loving the reference to Death Cab's "Title and Registration" video in the beginning.

That main purpose of the fade to white scenes (not in front of the restaurant) was to differentiate between the main character's fantasies and problems. Thus, the literal translation of the metaphors was highly intentional.

Everytime I hear this song, I imagine a small apartment where the events in the lyrics play out like a television drama.

Its pretty funny, at first I thought that this was the official music video until I read the description. It was that good of quality.
This song say it all 🙃
I like that this song has some pretty clear lyrics. Nothing left for any interpretations.
