Hey, Andrew! What's the difference between 'jam' and 'marmalade'? Also, is a jug the same as a pitcher? Thanks!
Hi Sia
Marmalade is simply "orange jam" . We don't say "orange jam". We say "marmalade". It's very common on toast for breakfast!
"Jam" is all the other flavours (strawberry, blackcurrant, raspberry, fig)
"jug" is British English and "pitcher" is American English. The meaning is the same. :)
Also - "flask" is British English. In American English, they often say "thermos" (which is in fact the name of a common brand of flask.) Again, the meaning is the same. :)
Andrew
@@CrownAcademyEnglish thank you! Much appreciated! Greetings from Greece!
Thanks Andrew I have one mistake only.
6:00 Two jars = Jar Jar (Binks) 😂👍
Thanks you so much
Nice pronouns
5:35 Here in 🇻🇳, my students pronounce TIN or FIN instead of “thin” !!! 😅 The sound “th” is difficult for them, and many other countries!!! 😂👍
Yes the "th" sound is very difficult for English learners.
In French I always had difficulty hearing the difference in sound between "dessus" and "dessous". 😕
At work I use a tray of 36 eggs. Can I say the tray carbon as well?
Hi Maria. No, we don't really say "tray" for eggs. We say "carton". :)
Andrew
I have nine answers
Hi, would you please let me know which software you use to make your videos. I'm an Iranian teacher
thanks in advance.
2:30 Crisp = chips, chips = fries, sneakers = trainers, a trainer = a coach, a coach = a bus. 😂👍
Hi Andrew, can I say a flask of coffee?
Yes, very good. :)
4:08 « Carton » in French means « cardboard » !!! 😅
For a minute I think both have the same pronunciation
Tube -> IPA: /tjuːb/
Tub -> IPA: /tʌb/
That's right. Similar spelling but different pronunciation.
Does pronouns get capitalized in the middle of a sentence?
You did a good job of differentiating the use of crisps in the UK and chips in the US, but we don't use the word packet. We would say "a bag of chips". There are a lot of other differences that aren't addressed in your video, such as thermos for flask. Perhaps just stick with what's common in the UK because addressing one of two differences but not the others might be confusing to the students. Lastly, the pink circle bouncing around on the slide is very distracting and not useful. I make these comments not to be negative, but informative. In the end, a good video for students studying British English.
Hi Kathy. Yes, it's impossible to cover every difference in a single lesson, especially on UA-cam where people have very short attention spans.
Thanks for your comment.
Best wishes
Andrew
