    You can actually use fleece “like a fleece blanket” from a fabric store instead of fiberglass mat. It does hold a lot more resin. I use it when i build fiberglass speaker boxes for trucks. I also use staples to hold on place.

    I've done a bit of glass work myself, I think ya did just fine! Looks like ya gotter figured out. I was thinking about renting a chopper gun to spray it in my next one. I've yet to try spraying it! We'll see how it goes... lol...

    No,worst day is when (if) it leaks! You ever watch the "Angry Fiberglass Guy" as I call him out of the UK?..He swears he's the best. I don't remember his real name.

    Just an FYI, epoxy, silicone, acrylic and similar stuff takes 7 days or more to fully cure. It may seem hard in 24 hours, but its still venting gas that can be very harmful to your fish. Something this big, i might consider waiting 2 weeks once done before putting water in it.

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому

      I gave the last tank even longer than 2 weeks. It needs to leak test for awhile and be filled and emptied a few times before fish get anywhere near it. Then ill throw a few convict cichlids in for a fish safe test

    There's a guy that has a UA-cam channel called GRPLining that you should check out for any future builds it could make it easier for you

    Usually you fiberglass the entire back wall then lay your fiber glass and fiberglass over it while it's all still moist. But hopefully it should b ok the way u did it. To get the air pockets out sand them down and overlay it with more fiberglass.

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому

      I think I understand what you're trying to say. A few different sources said that you can wait up to 48 hrs to lay glass on the epoxy and thats what i was counting on. Thats why j was surprised that after 12 hrs it wasn't tacky anymore. In the end it didn't seem to matter because my new baches of resin seemed to reactivate the cured resin and the glass sank into it any. So it seems to have worked fine. Im a little worried about the bottom still because that will have sat for awhile without glass in it but at the same time the bottom it much less of a concern to me than the back wall was. Thank you for your input. Still learning here

    Use poolcoat or flowcoat, gelcoat doesn't have wax so it will stay sticky

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому +1

      You can add wax to gel coats for the top coat but I don't know exactly how that works thats just what im told

    • @DEVDONK1
      @DEVDONK1 4 роки тому

      @@OffTheDeepEndAquatics yes you can its just easier to buy something that already has the wax. Going to be a great tank cant wait to see it finished

    You made me laugh at the beginning when you said Don't do it like I'm doing it!😂 That looked harder than your leading on,but you did a great job! That crap is a pain to work with I helped a buddy repair a part of his boat and it was tuff to work with. I csnt believe how big the Hybrid Ray has gotten ,the light pretty girl I think? In the 300 all of them are bigger,great job buddy!!

    "don't copy me" lol, everyone has to learn something new every now and then. UA-cam is great for free advice. Saved a fortune using UA-cam for help when working on my BMW. You should see Stingray Biology channel, Kevin re-coated a resin over one of his large tanks three or four weeks ago.

    • @OffTheDeepEndAquatics
      @OffTheDeepEndAquatics  4 роки тому

      I use UA-cam for lots of stuff too. Just wanted to make sure people understand that It was my first time and I wouldnt recommend copying me unless in long run it works out. I watch all of Kevin's stuff but his project wasn't with fiberglass resin he just costed the tank with pentair epoxy paint. Good enough for what he was doing and better than the liners he uses on other tanks
