This is super niche, and not everyone has this problem, but I seriously treasure all the TikToks my late partner and I sent each other and I don’t want to lose them. All the things that made him laugh, sitting in bed next to him and watching videos and when we laugh a little too hard, we send the video to the other person to save it. He sent me so many things and if there’s one thing I’ll always treasure, ohh it’s that laugh. God.

American laws do NOT apply in China. US companies definitely do do it, but they also have a string of AMERICAN LAWS they have to abide by. If Tik Tok does something illegal to you or your data while using the app, there's nothing you can do about it because their laws are different.
People like you seem to forget, China is NOT a democracy. The rights you have in America do not apply in China.
its bc we arent on good terms with china currently&its not safe. we luckily get to live without experiencing war like ukraine&the middle east. &im sure everyone would rather keep it that way. its not about social media at that point its about national security for its citizens
