Been going for 20 years. Weekend 2 now is what’s up. Ian should have done his research. Don’t just bring a tent, get canopy to cover it, and tie that shit down well.
@@magicology yeah car camping is the shit! You just have to do it correctly. I’ve never slept in my car. Also, the bathrooms in the camp grounds are meh, but you can pay $10 for a pretty nice shower experience.
I'm not sure. He is definitely a gem, but part of his thing is that he is just quiet most of the time, and then every now and then shows up with an absolutely hilarious story or anecdote. Let him cook! lmao
I went to Coachella in 2002 and was hesitant about it because I’m not a festival goer at all but, when I got there, it was a total dreamland. Hardly a crowd, more like a community picnic than a festival. The artists would just walk around the grounds like anyone else and mingle with the crowd. I got to hang out and talk to Omar the guitar player from At The Drive In one of my favorite bands and a friend of mine chatted with Sean Lennon. It was so cool. I think after that, the word got out and now it’s just a legend. Not the festival that it originally was.
You don’t sleep in your car. He’s completely clueless. Look at the pictures they showed. It’s so you can park your car right next to where you set up your tent and canopy. And you can keep ice chests or whatever you need in it. It’s a huge step up from what Ian did.
Also most festivals don’t allow regular attendees into the campground, the benefit for that would be to “pregame” with your friends that have an EZ up at the campground
I already didn’t plan to go to Coachella in my life, but every new bit of information from Ian’s experience pushed me further and further from ever wanting to go there
Coachella should build a proper building out there. A hotel with toilets, showers, and loads of balconies and a rooftop so people can over-look the festival. Some air conditioning. Pools. First aid and mini hospital there. In-door and out-door restaurants. Locker access. Mini police station with jail-cells incase there are criminals. TVs everywhere showing vision of the live shows. Ambulance parking. Meeting rooms. Gift/ Souvenir shops. Clothes shops. Lots and lots of public toilets for those who did not get a hotel room. Electric vehicle hire ports for Golf-cart, e-scooter, and segway hire to increase accessibility. Electric wheelchair charge stations included at those ports. It really seems like a health and safety issue not having such infrastructure out there. Imagine if the hotel was designed like a big cruise ship in the middle of the desert. Similar to the Sun-cruise hotel and resort in south Korea. That would be SICK. When the festivals not on they can use it as a venue for other events too.
@@TTdoyaloveme That's good to know but it's not right that it's only for VIP. They need to make a big building that includes a hotel for general use and safety. Not tent hotels.
@@TTdoyalovemeCoachella is located in Palm Springs. It’s Coachella valley! They have all of that in the city. They have loads of hotels, restaurants etc.
right. it’s crazy to me that so many people don’t know the concept of camping festivals and that they exist. after probably my third fest I was acclimated to them and now i’m a car camp veteran lol
Music festivals is kinda a big thing where I live, camping, live music and some okay food is what I grew up doing every summer. I don’t think Americans are doing it right. Y’all are to focused on class. If you can afford the car but bottom of the barrel is tents. So sad. Where I live you can bring your car and tent. Bring a fucking caravan. Anything that is camping bring it all. We have a few tents a caravan for a group of us and it was great (not coachella) we had nice BBQ breakfasts. We had a blast was so much fun. There are people who will stay at a hotel and come to the festival but that’s not how you do a summer music festival. And usually the only difference between sites are VIP sites so that’s for all the bands. They have a worker site because if you work there you go free. Then there’s a family section and a non family section. The campsite is basically first come first served. If you get there early enough, I always went with my mum and dad and auntie, and then all their friends, so maybe 4 cars, 1 trailed caravan and the rest of us had tents if we weren’t sleeping in the caravan. We’d have our own fire to cook food and mini disposable BBQs as well as all the food stands at the actual festival site. It’s just so good. The music, the food, the quietness in the morning, it’s quiet but you can hear people talking but most the adults are rough so no one’s really being loud. It was just so fun and good memories where as whenever I hear of people talking about coachella it sounds awful. Sure where I live it can rain and get really muddy. But that’s part of camping and if you don’t like that then don’t go.
Car camping is more expensive bc you get more room, you have extra shade/shelter, it’s closer to the entrance, and also you don’t have to lug in your camping gear from the parking lot
@@alexwilcock9249 that was my reaction too! I was like “have you never been to a festival before?” 😂 guessing it is just higher class people expecting more lol the crew would have lost their minds at Okeechobee festival I went to a few weeks back where it was in the swamp in Florida and super dirty, but that’s part of the experience for me haha

It’s not that bad. Ian was completely clueless. That’s why it was a disaster for him. And still he doesn’t understand the car camping. People don’t sleep in their cars. It’s so your car could be right next to your much bigger camping space and you could keep ice chests or whatever you need in it.
I feel like if I was there in the moment with the better accommodations, I would obviously enjoy it… but the car camping / economy camping section sounds so exhausting, I feel like you’d have to pay me to go through it.
I've never been to the USA, but I've been to festivals in Europe, as an artist on smaller ones and a visitor at SummerJam Everlasting 2015. After visiting several festivals 2012-2015, the SummerJam one was the last one. Never sleeping in a tent again. This talk reminded me a lot about that experience. Extremely hot, water shortage, everything expensive, bad toilets and lots of walking. A lot of people barely watched any performances because of the heat. If I ever go to a festival again, it will be if theres affordable hotels nearby. Otherwise, it's just better to watch from home tbh. Also, the risk of bad weather can also destroy the experience as it did for me at one festival when the whole area was flooded and the power went out now and then.
That camp situation is stupid. For Firefly music festival, if you chose to camp, you get a plot that’s big enough for a tent AND your car. Why the fuck do you have to park your car elsewhere from all your shit?? FIREFLY FOR LIFE WOOOO

That’s insane that you have to pay more to sleep in your car. That’s so ridiculous.

That's not really the truth. It would be more to bring your car on site, but you most people still camp in a tent behind their car.
@@SassyFilmingo I’ve been to festivals and there’s never been an extra fee to sleep in your car I just was so surprised
