    I have a direct association with the Tunnel Cleaning Train because as an Apprentice, I helped to build the structure of car No TCC5 (one of the motor cars) in the Heavy Repair Shop at Acton Works in the summer of 1973. It was fun project to be involved with and I learned a lot at the same time and I worked with some really good guys in the process. At the time the Tunnel Cleaner had one of the most sophisticated fire/explosion suppression systems in the world since that was a real danger that had resulted in two other cleaning trains around the world having been destroyed by dust explosions. I was sad to see the train languishing at Ruislip and eventually being scrapped, but I guess it had done its duty. What a handsome chap Clive Maxwell was/still is!! - another good guy to work with.

    Who would think an ex 1938 stock would end up vacuuming in its service life!

    it's kinda funny the way everyone in the video sounds like they're trying to sell us on the cleaning train - like people would be watching going "but what if I want that 100 year old skin dust to remain untouched" "here's why a cleaner environment is actually a good thing" xD

    The manual cleaners = fluffers. Not to be confused with other types of fluffers.

    Is there going to be a replacement for this train?

    • @Richardsrailway
      @Richardsrailway  9 місяців тому

      There is a current upgraded version that replaced this a few years ago . Does the same but less prone to breakdowns !

      Hi, can I ask the travelling speed when no working? Would it be dangerous if this tunnel cleaning train travel at high speed of 85km/h? Thanks for reply.

    • @Richardsrailway
      @Richardsrailway  7 років тому +1

      will it be safe if this tunnel cleaning train travel at a high speed of 85km/h? Is there any travelling speed difference of the tunnel cleaning train to be electric driven or hydrostatic driven.

    Congratulations to the Brits, they know how to do things.their underground system it is a beautiful old system . Unfortunately because of globalization all the mechanical equipment is foreign and not British made anymore.
    The subway trains are French made the double decker buses are Volvos and the above-ground trains that I rode on we made by Hitachi.
    The Brits were once number one in mechanical design but the world has changed they were not able to keep up because of Margaret Thatcher and the improvements in technology around the world, all that's left is Rolls-Royce and a bunch of supercars that are sold primarily to the mega rich overseas.
    Britain now is mainly one big Bank and one big shopping mall for the well-to-do and the ultra-rich.

    What do they use for cleaning tunnels now.

    • @Richardsrailway
      @Richardsrailway  7 років тому +1

      OMSILondonLad a more modern unit is used and I believe that is more computer technology based in design , in small areas of tunnel like say 10 metre's , it's done still by hand .

    • @SprattyHeath
      @SprattyHeath 7 років тому

      I see, and I'm guessing this unit is stored at acton depot?

    • @Richardsrailway
      @Richardsrailway  7 років тому

      OMSILondonLad sadly no. It was sent for scrap and is no more .As was the two car weed killing train formed of two converted driving motor cars of 1938 stock .

    In Boston are tracks are so dirty with brake dust and metal particals it wears out components on the platform. This same contamination is being breathed in by the train riders and blown out as a train leaves the tunnel into our surrounding environment it is Criminal poisoning.
    I've worked in the subway in Boston and they send a group of young men down to pick up trash in the subway area that can be seen by Riders while they are doing that a large white Irishman who is supervising sleeps on the bench for 2 hours while his crew works.
    As well as brake material and metal filings the tracks are covered with oil and grease drippings from Decades of service the MBTA is a poorly-run inefficient destructive transportation system run here in Boston for profit not the peoples wellbeing or health.
