Greatest USMNT game ever. I’ll never forget watching this live. My brother, dad and I went insane. My dad recently passed, but this is a memory I’ll always cherish. Beautiful game.
USA is a great country. Although football (or soccer) is not among the most popular sports there, they still go to World Cup most of the times, and they do well. I really love the spirit and enthusiasm of their playing style
i mean theres hundreds of millions of people in the USA. theres ofcourse gonna be atleast 11 good players. compared to a small country with really good players you'd expect American players to do atleast alright against them
But bear in mind the way qualification for the World Cup works. You play teams in your nation's region and the U.S play in CONCACAF and quite often draw North American sides like Jamaica and American Samoa who they would always beat but yes, credit to them. They can certainly hold their own.
In retrospect, the U.S. being robbed from the winning goal against Slovania is what essentially gave this goal the significance it has; had they won the Slovania game this game would have not been a must win for us. Out of all of the U.S. players, I am so happy that Landon Donovan scored this goal. He is an amazing player and he is the leader of our team (along with Dempsey).
If the US had 4 points going into this game, they would still need a draw or better in this match to make sure they made it into the round of 16. They couldn't exactly have rested their starters because England played Slovenia at the same time. If England wins their game, they have 5 points, if Slovenia wins, they have 6 (if they had lost to the US). 4 points is not a guarantee to make the round of 16 but 5 points pretty much is.
@@abegames1075 VAR would have been useful for the goal against Algeria but not for Slovenia, there were like 10 fouls on that play and Bradley was offside

Called my dad on the home phone while I was at work; “DID YOU SEE THAT?!” I cried to him. Even though this squad was sadly knocked out later on, I will always consider this World Cup and this match what made me interested in our great sport to this day. I remember this very clearly. I was at a sports bar with some friends, and I was talking to friends, not paying too much attention. Suddenly, one man yells and stands up. I look at the screen, and see this. The entire bar this going nuts. It was amazing
Gotta love Howard rallying the team he pick it up yelling threw back out and Donovan ran it down field.Amazing ending but also heartbreaker for the Algerians
I don't think it was much of a heartbreak for Algeria, since a 0-0 draw would also see them finish last in that group. Quite a heartbreak for us, Slovenian fans, especially since our game has already finished by the time Donovan scored for a narrow win. Oh well, I can always hope we'll once get a chance like this to get to the knock-out stage. :)
It was a heartbreak for Algeria..because if you watched that game, their entire plan was to park the bus and f the US out of advancing. Actually, Jermaine Jones is 33 years old haha. we do have A LOT of prospects though including Gedion Zelalem, Joseph-Claude Gyau, DeAndre Yedlin, and USA hopeful Darlington Nagbe. All young talents who will make the US a force in the next world cup.
Nick Beronio If they would just get rid of Altidore. I am not sure what the coaches fascination with him is. He is a very poor player. Surely the US can field better forwards.
Not to count our chickens before they hatch, but Jordan Morris is the talk of the USMNT after he's performance against our rivals, and he's only 20 but has so much potential. Also, I don't know what everyone else's stance is on our goalkeepers, but I personally think Yarbrough is showing that he is starting XI ready.
9 років тому+1
xxxhairmetalxxx We also have the Parker brothers who are USMNT hopefuls as well. There's Gyau also and Nagbe.
The new generation of players is significantly better than the 2010 team. The talent pool now is better and deeper than it has ever been. And it isn't even close.
Never in my life will I forget this moment. I was deployed to Afghanistan at the time watching this game with other service members at Bagram Airbase. It was absolute chaos there when Landon scored this goal.
Hellobob58 his foot was just infront of the other guys foot..... They make every single inch or centimeter count.... also from the angle we were given it looks like he was on.... but from the angle the linesman was given he was off... i was at the game at that moment we were right where it was we knew it was offside we were just hoping he would let it go...
+Caden Andarsio if the linesman was in a different position than the camera was (the camera looks to be pretty perfect), the linesman is at fault, and i'm pretty sure the rulle says that a foot should not be enough to be called offside for, allthough i'm not sure
This moment and USWNT getting to the final a year later is what got me into soccer. Started watching EPL (then BPL) a year later and attended my first MLS match (Philadelphia Union vs Montreal Impact). Been a season ticket holder since 2017.

Also, I don't know what everyone else's stance is on our goalkeepers, but I personally think Yarbrough is showing that he is starting XI ready.
xxxhairmetalxxx We also have the Parker brothers who are USMNT hopefuls as well. There's Gyau also and Nagbe.
Yup... Still gives me goosebumps.
The new generation of players representing the USMNT jersey will NEVER be able to compare themselves to this golden age generation
You never know... give it time buddy. USMNT has a golden generation that worldwide now
Cap
The new generation of players is significantly better than the 2010 team. The talent pool now is better and deeper than it has ever been. And it isn't even close.

Had to be the best moment of the the entire tournament
no, best moment was the very first goal ever for South-Africa on a WC
tomdewilde1 no one gives a shit about south africa
tomdewilde1 That was fantastic, too. I didn't realize it was their first goal ever, though. Go Bafana Bafana!
Erizde Rios Hahahahahahah
what about the Suarez handball?? lol (jk)
Tears Of Joy That day....Chills man, Chills

I hope one day we play algeria again
Me too its gonna be a hell of a match because the two teams improved a lot in the last 5 years !
Well, USA literally only missed 1 point.
algeria is not well like 2014 but i hope play aginst uited state in qatar

An utterly thrilling and magical goal. Donovan just had the right stuff. This is sealed in legend now.
you can see dempsey is aware of the defender and knows he's not offside. The goal was clearly not off side
Never in my life will I forget this moment. I was deployed to Afghanistan at the time watching this game with other service members at Bagram Airbase. It was absolute chaos there when Landon scored this goal.
Best Moment in USA Men's Soccer
The Best Moment of my life!
this man is isngle handedly the reason american soccer is big, his legacy lives through pulisic and mckinney
I will watch this and cry with joy til the day I die.
We saw Donovan’s magic in 2010. Who will be the hero vs Iran in 2022?
Pulisic
Thanks for showing us this game, two years later.
i was the kid holding the algerian capitains hand. Lol that was such a great time.

1:20 he is not offsides!
Good Catch, I guess I see his left foot just in front.
+Caden Andarsio if the linesman was in a different position than the camera was (the camera looks to be pretty perfect), the linesman is at fault, and i'm pretty sure the rulle says that a foot should not be enough to be called offside for, allthough i'm not sure
Just remember, if you can score with it, you can be offside with it.

What a great *football* match.
1:39 I can't believe Dempsey missed that!
Its his weak foot dumbass.
Rozayy I mean it’s still a bad miss for a press-up always footballer of any ability
@@iNBKGamers world class soccer players don't have a weak foot
This moment and USWNT getting to the final a year later is what got me into soccer. Started watching EPL (then BPL) a year later and attended my first MLS match (Philadelphia Union vs Montreal Impact). Been a season ticket holder since 2017.
Why this in my quarantine recommendations?
The beauty of it is it's shaping up to be a Gold Cup final U.S. vs. Mexico! I'm excited for a great match with both teams coming off solid performances in group play.
Pulisic has pulled a Donovan......sort of. Sacrificed his massive American balls for that win.
I still remember that match
Watching it with my mother's family at my grandmother's was sad
Very happy with America's goal in the last second💔🇩🇿
I was 15 when this happened and I still get goosebumps watching it.
One of the happiest moments in my sports watching career. Lol. I still remember hugging random people at the bar. Would be amazing if the men could ever win a WC....
I don't think that the current team of USA can beat the current team of algeria

Nine years later. I still get chills watching this!
i remember in this tournament how the refs were against us so much
Oh dear god yes "Sleepy Eyes" ref who looked like he was on heroin and favored Ghana greatly when they played against the US but it was enjoyable to see them get revenge on Ghana 4yrs later and to see them booted out of the group knockout....see ya!!!
OH and what about the Sloveina match?!?! Total bias against the US.I thought there was a lot of bad ref calls in 2010 WC not as bad as the 2002 WC
I consider this as my motivation video it just became what my reality had to become in life and that goal was just something special.
We'll miss u LD. Jurgen you'd better develop some talent cus shit like this is gonna be hard to replace.
well, I think that's what he's trying to do. Bring in new people. Some young, but some old players to be leaders. Jurgen is trying develop players for the future. Give the young players experience(in the World Cup). Gonna miss Donovan nonetheless.

Crazy to think this was 10 years ago. I still remember this like yesterday. I miss these days

I've loved watching the Donovan lead US nat football team play, always underdogs NEVER settling... no matter the score always fighting back.
Tim Howard and Landon Donovan made the US a thrilling team to watch and of course complemented by a very solid backup of players Bradley has been my fav US coach he knew his players he knew his style.
Japan and the US were the teams to watch in 2014, so entertaining
Cheers from Costa Rica...
