I had the opportunity to interview. Jeff, in about 2004. He invited me to his house outside London and I even got to play the off-white Stratocaster as he gave me some impromptu guitar lessons. It was awesome and he was awesome!
It’s with mixed emotions I watch this. I cannot wait to attend the exhibition to take a closer look very soon but sad we have lost such a talented artist who inspired so many guitarists!
Like many, I was fortunate enough to see Jeff live. There was/is, no one like him. I'm still heartbroken about his passing. 😢 R.I.P. Jeff and thank you for so many years of your great guitar playing.
One of the world's best guitarist's. Hearing Jeff's music is the most wonderful sounds of any music at all. You have left the stage Jeff but we thankfully still have the amazing sounds you created from these instruments. RIP Jeff.
That Seymour Duncan built Tele is the very guitar that made me want a Tele as a young man. I saw a black and white picture of Jeff in a guitar book with that guitar smoking a fat cigar talking with Clapton and knew I have to have one.. I now have a dozen!
A 59 LP for £50K? I’d get a loan to buy that!😂 That just seems like a 1/20th of what you’d think it would go for? Ok, it’s been modded, but it’s been modded by Jeff Beck, played by icons, and used on important recording? A new 59 VOS is pushing £7K? Anyway, I’d expect that to go for a fortune on auction day.
Yea it’s a weirdly low estimate… maybe because it’s been renecked and Jeff didn’t seem to like it after that? Still a legendary guitar so I think it’ll go for more.
"Flame Maple Top"? lol It's a plain maple top as were all the early LPs. Nice "expert" . I love it when an "expert" says something wrong as soon as they speak.
It's unfortunate that only the very very rich will be able to get their hands on one of Jeff's guitars. Where does that leave the average Joe who loves Jeff Beck, has every album and knows every note of every song? That makes me sad.
The story about the Tele Gib is not true...Jeff traded his Yardbird Esquire for the Tele Gib...it was not a gift...Duncan made replicas of the Yardbird Esquire and gave Jeff one of the copies ...
I was surprised not to see the Stratocaster with the large headstock that he used with the Jeff Beck Group and Beck Bogert and Appice. The one with the pickguard cut off.
The Seymour Duncan Telecaster was not a gift to Jeff Beck? It was a trade for the Fender Esquier Jeff used in The Yardbirds. In interviews Jeff had remorse over letting the guitar go.
The main cream-colored Strat, the Oxblood Les Paul, and the Telegib are the crown jewels of this collection. As far as I am concerned, he was cut down in his prime...
@@doyleblueshall1398 He was still playing and gigging at his usual high level when he suddenly contracted bacterial meningitis. Compare to Clapton, who hasn't really done anything new since Derek and the Dominos. Age is a number.

Has anyone in the States received the Christie's JB catalog yet? I ordered mine for a Christmas present and it has yet to show and there have been no updates.
Same in germany. I wrote to Christies and they made excuses because of printing delays over the christmas period. But a few hours ago I received a tracking code. Hopefully I get the Catalogue before I start to visit the exhibition😂
1:20 … the Comedy-writer/Shadow in me was hoping that after this guy said “Iconic”, he’d ‘hang’ the guitar, and either not do it properly, or the whole hanger and guitar would just come off its mounting … 😄🙃
Why does the headstock on the 1959 Les Paul look too big? It does NOT look like a typical 59 headstock profile. Was the neck changed in its life? Maybe... Somebody must know.
Doesn’t matter man. Are these guitars supposed to sit in some vault crusting away until the world ends? Jeff is gone. I just hope an amazing musician gets these and not just some rich non musician collectors.
Hold on, there's something funky going on with the headstock on that first Les Paul. No explanation or closeup shot? Hopefully the website clears this up.
These Guitars will most probably be bought by collectors rather than players. Hopefully their fate won’t be to be forever put behind glass in some millionaires house.
On one hands it's a shame his family is selling them off but then again what are they going to do with them if no one in the immediate family will use them like Ed van Halen's son does.
I think the well known musicians with deep pockets will end up with these. They were probably getting their funds together knowing this day would come. Not in a disrespectful manner though.
Im never critical on youtube because I know how hard this is to do but Im also a professional communicator and these 2 have to go. Zero cred in the guitar community. Super cool. It is sort of funny. If some of these were owned by a normie. “It’s a shame your guitar is modded., it’s sort of worthless now. If it was stock it would be worth a huge amount”.
I can see doing a JB exhibition, but Christies is an auction house. This is lead up to auctioning off this collection to the highest bidder. The only value these guitars have is, that JB played them. A few played a lot, most of them closet queens. If a nobody like me owned that Strat, it would be virtually worthless, since nobody collects a "parts-caster". If that were an original 54, with original everything, it would be a very valuable and collectable guitar as is. JB is the value adding factor here. 50 yrs from now, will anyone know or care who Jeff Beck was? I would hope so. But as time goes on, the fans of these iconic musicians die off. My kids have never heard of Jeff Beck and have no real interest in his story.... I mean, they've heard of Jimi Hendrix, but don't particularly like his music.. They've heard of Led Zeppelin, but no clue who Jimmy Page or Robert Plant are as individuals. Jeff's music will be pulsating through my speaker cabinets for a little while longer, but when I'm gone, that will be the end of it in my family.
Oh, they are now auctioning off guitars like it's the Mona Lisa! The hype never stops! Of course you can't afford to buy any of them. Somebody is making a lot of money but it's not you.
I almost want to own one of these to really stick it to an ex who was a failing musician who couldn’t get his life together. Poor dude. He’d love to own one of these, but I’m employed, he’s not.
I wonder if there will be any restrictions on the buyer`s end. It would only take one billionaire to come in and out-bid everyone to take the whole lot for himself. I`m guessing that would happen if Joe Bonamassa were a billionaire. His guitar hoarding is well-known throughout the guitar world. ;-)
I think this is very silly and goes against the whole gestalt of rock n’ roll. This isn’t like selling an artist’s paintings or maybe a writer’s original manuscript. These are just guitars! Albeit on some famous recordings, but still… Better sell them now before rapidly aging really rich boomers with nothing else to spend their money on. Their kids aren’t going to care very much. These instruments will be cheaper in 50 years..,

The magic was not in his instruments, the magic was Jeff
A correct statement.

Jeff would want them played, not hanging on a wall.

That Gibson is going to go for an Insane price, Beck, Page, and Hendrix, played it . What more is there to say?
Christie’s estimating £40k-50k on this. But there’s another Les Paul in the collection with a pre-auction estimate of £300-500k!

Yep. My first bet was a '59 LP, THE holy grail of electric guitars.
Played by good old Hendrix..
Lovely to see these featured instruments but I'd rather Jeff was still with us to play them as only he could.
pretty amazing he kept that '59 all through the years . he didn't play it and the value skyrocketing along the way
