I would not be surprised if the ship RUD was triggered by the FTS. After the shutdown of the third gimballing engine, the ship was effectively out of control. [It had only the RCS thrusters left for attitude control and I don't think they'd have been enough.]
Scott Manley reported that the breakup was about 3 minutes after the telemetry loss...just mentioning it because the debris wouldn't have been visible until after about T+ 11 minutes instead of around 8 and and a half minutes as the video segment portrays at 6:05.

Yeah, I was watching the velocity as the booster fell, it was screaming toward the pad at about 4000 kilometres per hour, then absolutely slammed on the brakes before gently and delicately landing on the arms. It was almost graceful! I really thought it was going to hit the QD arm, maybe it was just the camera angle.

Quite possible that the FTS was activated; the "coast" time between the loss of telemetry (which followed the sequential loss of engines) and the "boom" was quite long. Their is a "sweet spot" to break apart the craft, making sure that most of it vaporizes, but keeping the debris field small-ish.

And the last bit of telemetry was showing outer vacuum engine on so it had to start tumbling from uneven thrust.
Possibly but Musk said there was a leak in the propellant pipes, so it might just have exploded on its own.
Then the question is: why did engines start turning off?
