    He has one of the best 2 handed backhands on the tour. I was amazed the first time I saw it in person.

    Thanks for the great video. This is in my opinion the best video regarding the mechanics of the two handed backhand...so thanks again. Videos like these will help us all play better tennis! One comment on the footwork (because I struggled with this). Notice that Korda's split step is not exagerrated, its just enough to get his feet off the ground. Then watch closely, as he turns for the backhand he turns the left foot 90 degrees as his first movement (this foot becomes the loaded leg). Then he steps toward the ball with his front as he swings! This footwork allows all the stuff you talked about in the video!!!

    Thanks a lot! Great video in right time - I'm dbl basically and more or less back hand works But when I got really strong shot on my back hand - 2 hands Technic so useful for proper respond, need a practise a lot for muscle memory.

    Superb analysis as always. In my lessons as step up progression i get my students to assume a upper body half turn and a lower body hip opening with racket position assuming a high tip position and in the middle of left and right shoulder. Upon ball feed i wiil get my student to finish the upper body turn with front foot preparing for a final plant across. Upon planting the swing starts with entire hip motion rotating forward (much like a golf swing). In the process racket tip initiating drop below contact (as a result of bowed front wrist) before accelarating forward and upward in keeping with the shoulder rotation force (important to let to forward rotation of shoulder to drive this forward and upward swing). Then you would have achieved a perpect effortless 2H backhand.

    This rightie with a two-handed backhand has a theory as to why I struggle so much. I am right-handed and favor my right leg also. Everything on the left side feels .... very difficult to prioritize ... struggling to put it into words. Resulting in ... the first thing I do when I see a backhand is take a big step with my right leg, 45 degrees forward and left, completely blocking my ability to set up and execute. In other words, how about discussion of the footwork on two-handed backhands, both when the ball is right near you, when you have to take a few steps left, and when you have to take several steps left.

    How do you drop the racquet below the position of the ball? Is this an active action meaning am I moving my arms myself into the lowered position or does the racquet fall naturally into position as a result of the hips rotating forward similar to a forehand?

    Do you also have advice for a backhand, when ball is too short and soft? I am straggling with it (
    Thanks )

    What you don't mention, and what I think is very important, is that He lightly bends his knees. For a topspin shot, the racket looks quite open.

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  2 роки тому +5

      There are about a dozen things I didn’t mention. Knees bending was one of them. Thanks for watching!!!

  • @omerembon9383
    @omerembon9383 2 роки тому +2

    it is necessary to flex the right wrist in the back to help the drop of the racket or can you do it with a tight right wrist? because as you say the shot its more consistent if you don't involve the wrists that much, but in the other hand, its easier to drop the racket bending the right wrist.

    • @omerembon9383
      @omerembon9383 2 роки тому +1

      by the way if i'm watching correctly here korda doesn't seem to be bending the right wrist

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  2 роки тому +1

      The wrist bend happens because of hip rotation. As the hips turn toward the shot, the racket is dropping still. The hands come forward with body and the racket tried to keep going down. That’s what causes the wrist to bend. And yes, that does help to drop the racket below the ball. Sebastian doesn’t have a lot of wrist bend in this backhand bc he’s swinging pretty slowly actually and doesn’t fire the hips. That’s why his wrist bend is minimal. Thanks!!!

    Hey Ryan, I was wondering if you could analyze Alexa Glatch's backhand. I watched her play at the Lexington Challenger last week and was impressed with her backhand. It would be incorrect to label it as "next gen backhand," but I'm not sure what to call it. Rick Macci attempted to explain this type of mechanics as "pull-push-flip" method. Like the forehand, the racquet face is pointed down in the slot position and then the racquet lags as you accelerate. For whatever reason, it's more difficult to hit this way on the backhand side. Please examine Alexa Glatch's backhand. Thanks.

    • @2MinuteTennis
      @2MinuteTennis  Рік тому +1

      I’ve actually had the chance to hit with Alexa a few years back at my home club. Wonderful player. Ans super nice person too. Her backhand technique isn’t something I would teach as there are a lot of idiosyncrasies to that side that wouldn’t work for 99% of my audience. Works for her though, obviously.

    • @huntersims1966
      @huntersims1966 Рік тому

      @@2MinuteTennis Yes, she was nice enough to take some time to speak with me briefly about her backhand (I told her I admired her backhand and thought her technique was really unique, and I even asked her for a backhand lesson, as I've tried unsuccessfully to learn this particular style). BTW, here's Rick Macci's video on the "pull-push-flip" method. ua-cam.com/video/rMnGPgWAzFk/v-deo.html

      You'd have to be a complete schizophrenic to invent such a super awkward two-handed punch.
      The one-handed stroke is anatomically perfect, which means it is easier, more efficient, more versatile.

      Really appreciate the Grip clarification!! I’ve always used panel number 6 for my left hand as it felt more natural but perhaps I need to adjust it to 7

    • @paddlepower888
      @paddlepower888 2 роки тому

      @@user-bq9jg3ol5j Nothing wrong with putting those parts of the palm on panel 6, if you can make it work for you. It might even help produce more topspin, if you start/pull the stroke with the right and finish/push with the left hand. You're hitting a forehand with your left hand in a semi Western grip and your racquet hand going for the ride. If you use a semi Western grip on your forehand, you might appreciate the symmetry. Cheers!

    His backhand is OK. He hits very flat with little or no topspin on the backhand side. To me, his two handed backhand is kinda old-fashioned.
