Per Nosler's site, the 165 Gr ABLR "Requires a Minimum 1-9" Twist". I'm in Canada, so supply is hard to find, but I found a place that might sell me some... I don't yet reload, but I am strongly considering it, especially because of the cost of ammunition up here, but I also like tweaking things, and making things from scratch. Anyway, my Tikka T3 270 WSM has a 24 1/3" barrel, with a 1-9.5 twist, and considering what you and Hopeful Ballistics and Reloading Weatherby have done, this looks really promising.

Another excellent presentation! As for your feelings on the 140 AB vs. the 165 ABLR at 400yd., the 165 at that range still has ~2,100fpe! Still cruising at 2,392, causing hydrostatic shock.. If you believe in such a thing. I'm pretty sure most animals in North America wouldn't be able to tell the difference, DRT. Either way, nice shooting. I look forward to future tests, especially at lower velocities.

I recently pulled some factory 6.8 Western cartridges apart- 162 grain copper impacts and 170 grain PowerPoints in order to develop some 175 grain Sierra gameking loads. Anybody out there you could point me to with 1:10 twist 270 Win who had success using these 162s, 170s, or 175s ? Another question anybody out there find success in subsonic 6.8SPC (1:11 twist) using heavier rounds 130-175 grains?
I’ve seen a guy here on UA-cam test these bullets out of 1:10 twist regular .270 Win with good success. Have you done any testing with a similar setup? Thanks!
With Beretta offering a rebate, I purchased a Tikka 270 wsm. Ammo and brass for this caliber is almost nonexistent and now Winchester XP Deer Season is everywhere, seeing this I purchased seven boxes of this ammo. However, the review on this ammo is not the best. Do you have any suggestions, will this ammo hold together?
We’re there a lot of fragmentations? I normally use mon bullets for my game but I have quite a few bonded bullets but still end up going to my mono….don’t mean to start a war in between mono and bonded bullets just looking for field experience, thank you
I guess I still don’t understand why the easier to expand bullet doesn’t also expand better at short range. Shouldn’t higher velocity still do the job? Trying to still make sense of why the easier to expand only expands easier at the longer ranges vs the less deep hollow point
The softer projectiles expand TOO well at higher ( ie shorter range) velocity, shed too much weight so will not penetrate as well. See the graph in this case at 100yds it lost 57.1 %. so it ended up weighing only 70.8 grains.
That's what I heard as well. We decided to test these after reading on a few forums that some guys were getting good results with 165gr bullets in their stock WSM's. We have a 1 in 10 twist rate and they seem to work very well
The fact that you usually use 20-25 shots to produce the 5 samples you present in the video... isn't it a clue that the so-called long range hunting or extended range hunting is highly unethical?
