I think it's better to keep the videos at real time rather than speed up the boring parts, as although they're more dull due to lack of interaction and a real life experience will differ, new drivers have to learn patience while on the road anyway.
I passed 12 years ago on the 31st January 2007. I learnt in both manual and automatic but ended up taking my test in automatic as manual was too difficult for me. I have very recently been looking at test videos again just to see how different it is because I never used to use sat navs around that time.

@@lloydhiggins3008ok cool, i am hoping to make a video on reducing hesitation soon. But in the mean time consider these things: - When at a junction/roundabout look for gaps! many people look for cars and then get overwhelmed - Go to a quiet road and practice drag starts! Moving off promptly and fast. Try this with and without the handbrake and see which you prefer. - Prepare for the gaps, when you see a potential gap it is vital you get your feet ready, so gas and biting point (or just below bite), you do not have to go but you are ready if after double checking it is all good. Many people miss gaps as they do not prepare and by the time they are prepared the gap is gone.
Yeah I have had a tendency to get fixated and want to know where other cars are going rather than just looking for a safe gap to take. Thanks for your tips.

Thanks, most people say to speed up the 'boring' bits, but weirdly despite keeping the video at normal speed seems to have gotten a lot more views?!? Not sure if I should speed up parts or keep all at normal speed on future video?
I'm watching this 5 days after passing. It was my 3rd attempt and I had two minor faults. 1st attempt was back in February and i had 12 minors and 1 serious fault for stalling while changing lane at traffic lights. 2and Attempt I had 7 faults and 2 serious faults, 1 was for stopping over the line on traffic lights ( the line was really faded) and meeting situation(I caused a car to slow down as I overtook a parked car)

I'd say speed up the boring bits, but I must say I am finding these very useful. I also have my test booked in March and had to change my instructor because my original instructor changed to automatic just over a month before my test. My new instructor has made me doubt my driving abilities completely and also changed cars from a Citeron C3 to a KIA. Have you got any tips that could help me?
In terms of changing cars, firstly take it back a few steps by driving on quieter roads to start with, your instructor should be doing this, going onto busy roads and junctions when you are not use to the car will put big dents in your confidence. Sit at the side of the road and practice the controls of the new car, so practice setting the gas and finding the biting point, do it several times until you can do it without thinking. Go to a gentle hill and practice holding the car still by balancing the gas and biting point, move forwards a bit and then re-balance. If it is the gears, again just park up on a quiet road to make sure you can do them while stationary without thinking, if you can then you will only get better while moving by practicing it again and again.
I wouldn't say a fault should happen at "27:21" cause it's roadworks so it isn't in your control (due to 1 lane only be available) and the vehicles joining have a give-way point anyway as your already on the roundabout, that's like going around with built up traffic in peak time you wouldn't give way to vehicles who are trying to enter if your already on isn't that the same thing? buuut i might be wrong? Question: What about if the roundabout is traffic light controlled would you wait behind the line or continue through? I'm unsure on this scenario lol
Yes you do have priority, however the highway code also states you should keep junctions clear when stopping in traffic ques. The entrance to the roundabout is a junction, so technically the candidate is blocking the junction. If he held back the cars could have entered and gone ahead or turned right at the roundabout, thus reducing traffic ques. If it was traffic lights controlled it is highly likely there would be a yellow box junction, in which case you must not stop there. In fact in London you would get fined if you stopped in a yellow box. Even without a box junction you should not block a junction, if you do you are likely to annoy a lot of drivers.
@@UKDrivingTest ah ok didn't think roundabout followed the same rules as a normal junction due to the whole give-way to the right :P thanks for clearing that up and answering my question. :)

Just think of it as a driving lesson.. I had my first test yesterday and I passed with only 2 minors. I'd never even used a sat nav but had to on my test and it was fine and on my test i scraped the curb a little from getting too close but that wasn't even a fault.. It's honestly so much better than it seems like it's going to be and it goes so fast it doesn't even feel like 40 mins! But yeah just go into it positive and keep thinking you can do it and you can pass :) you'll be fine! Good luck!x

yes that would be good, but unfortunately not allowed, as it is a real driving test there must be no sound recorded. You can watch mock test videos on my channel, they have inwards facing cameras and sound.
Driving Crawley certainly I did subscribe to your channel sir, and tomorrow is my test. Would you advice about country road do I need to change to 2nd gears at the bends or just brake a little bit with good steering. Thank you
@@lilaalaoui5058 it depends on how sharp the bends are and what car you are driving. But generally 2nd seems a bit too low, unless a very sharp 90degree bend, like when turning into a side road. I find 3rd or 4th gear are normally best for country road bends. Perhaps 3rd gear in a diesel and 4th in a petrol, as a petrol can cope with higher gear better and pull away, a diesel may struggle to accelerate in 4th gear, but like i say depends on the car a bit. Sorry i can't give a straight answer nothing is black and white with driving, it all depends on various things.
Driving Crawley thank you very much for how you detailed the explanation, I really appreciate it and that what I need to figure out my concern. Thank you
@@lilaalaoui5058 No worries :-) P.S. make sure you enter my give away, I need more people to enter. And as not many people have entered at the moment you could stand a great chance of winning. ua-cam.com/video/-0DzrfZ2MJg/v-deo.html
Good question, something people often get confused and concerns about. It is all about driving at the appropriate speed. Ask your self the question, might I need to brake for something soon? If the answer is "YES" then driving below the speed limit is a good idea, like in your example if the road is tight, perhaps due to parked cars, then you drive slowly incase a door opens of someone steps out. But if you can keep good clearance from the parked cars, about 1 meter, then you should be able to do the speed limit assume there are no other hazards. If the answer is "NO", for example the road is clear and you can see ahead very far, no parked cars, no traffic lights, no junctions, no corner, nothing that is going to cause you to slow then it would be safe to build speed and get near the speed limit. The examiners want to see you driving like a driver, not like a learner.
Old video I know, so hoping to get an answer - 20:15 I thought changing lanes was forbidden on the zigzag lines at pedestrian crossings? Or is that just for overtaking cars?
It's no overtaking the leading motor vehicle or no parking / stopping. The main thing is to understand WHY. The reason why if the pedestrian crossing creates a risk, if you overtake you view of the crossing would be blocked and you could overtake into the path of a crossing pedestrians. Parking / stopping also creates the same risk due to blocking view of the crossing. Just changing lanes is less risky, as long as you can clearly see both sides of the crossing are clear and no risk of light changing or pedestrian stepping into the road.
P.S. Make sure you enter my give away, I need more people to enter. And as not many people have entered at the moment you could stand a great chance of winning. ua-cam.com/video/-0DzrfZ2MJg/v-deo.html

Hi, Can I take the test driving my own car? Should it have the "L" plate somewhere? I am not a learner or new driver at all (I drive since I'm 15, now in my 30's), been driving in the UK in the last months with my international licence, but need to take this test in a few weeks
As you probably know you can drive in the UK for up to 12 months on your non-UK licence, so no l plates required for that bit. HOWEVER, in order to continue driving after 12 months you need to apply for a UK provisional licence and pass the theory and practical test, for the practical test you can use you car but you must display L plates. www.gov.uk/driving-test/using-your-own-car I would strongly recommend you take some driving lessons for an approved driving instructor before taking a practical test as drivers from other countries often fail their UK driving test several times due to their driving standards not being up to scratch (I believe the pass rate for foreign licence holders with no training is worst than a true learner driver taking their test). Especially important at the moment you only take test when you are ready as test dates are rare, so if you take 6 tests to pass rather than 1 you have used an extra 5 test slots that could have been used by others who are desperate for a test date.
@@UKDrivingTest Thank you for your prompt response. Yes, I've got a provisional UK licence and already passed the theory test before buying my car, now I need to pass the practical test before the 12-months time expires at the end of the year. The only preparation I've done so far is reading the DVSA code and UK traffic code, never took any training in the UK. I have driven in 3 different countries so far and been trained in defensive and safe driving, but perhaps it's worth to book a couple of lessons to assess my skills for the UK standards.
@@m.k.9573 I would defiantly recommend taking some lessons. Speaking from experience everyone needs at least a few lessons before taking a test. Only people that might be ok with no lessons are driving instructors, as they know the standard they are expected to drive to.
Not sure of exact rules in Ireland, but sure it would be the same as the UK. You can have a dash camera with no sound, as that is more of a insurance / safety thing. Just can't record the examiner, i.e. no inward facing camera and no sound.
Yes without sufficient practice and good teaching many would struggle. But my students go through all the tricky bits many times and generally are ok with it, often it is just a 5 second brain fart which causes issues on test, like if they forget to check a mirror or lose concentration at a traffic light and jump a red light.
Only few naturally gifted drivers could do this first time if they never done the route before. I mean 3rd exit for straight on and people say roundabouts are a nightmare. You should see the Spiral roundabout in Chester. Post house it’s called, staying within those dotted markings is mind numbing.
@@tomlodge1329 yes you are correct, which is why continuing to learn, not lessons necessarily, when you have passed is essential. Learn from mistakes, look back at junctions which confused you, seek answer, do advanced driving lessons. I do all of this and I feel quite comfortable to drive in any area without prior knowledge, I drove to Leicester a few years ago and it has lots of weird roundabout but i was fine, drive on big motorways with lots of weird layouts, drive abroad, drove to south London yesterday without any issues. But this is only because I have had lots of training and it is my job to understand all these things. I think the key thing is to be calm and confident to drive at the speed your brains needs to be going at to process the information, and also having the confidence to go off route if you mis read something.
Hi I live in Horley i have noticed some of your lessons are in Crawley was wondering how best I can contact you so I can book or arrange some driving lessons with yourself. Thank you
No he should not have stopped, it was amber not red. Trying to stop at that point would have been extremely dangerous as he would have had to do an emergency stop. If you look in the highway code amber means (not exact quote): "You MUST stop behind the stop line, you may only proceed if you have passed the stop line or to stop would cause an accident" Make sure you subscribe to my channel and keeping watching as I am due to make a video about traffic lights soon, they are one of the top 5 reasons people fail, as they either stop when they should go or go when they should stop.
I failed my practical test on a junction right side reverse can you put your hazard lights on when Reverse in a busy road junction lot of stop start and an emergency stop so I got 9 faults He did not pass me first time I went. I got14 mistake but why just for 9 what do they whant more money or no Test paper I live in Leicester ...........
I am not 100% what you are saying. You say you got 9 faults but made 14 mistakes? If you got either of those amount of minor fault you would have passed. You must have also got a serious or dangerous fault.
This is something i need to do a video on, as these signs confuse a lot of people. The sign is correct, although slightly confusing, and how they do it. Whilst i don't have a video on it have a look at my blog: www.drivingcrawley.co.uk/blog/why-is-there-a-gap-in-the-picture-on-a-roundabout-sign-5-things-you-didnt-know-about-driving
@@angeumuhoza7008 as Diego says it is Crawley, it is only fairly 'quiet' as the road structure is very good for traffic flow. Basically it has lots of roundabouts of all types and lots of fast moving roads, which take lots of practice to master but are very effective at managing traffic flow. An area with high traffic level may seem more difficult but could be easier as it is likely to just be some traffic lights and basic t-jucntions, not very good at managing traffic flow.
@@UKDrivingTest ahh, well then if you don't mind having a little circle on the left and right so when the driver indicates we know what time and where the driver is indicating
Got my test tomorrow, can someone just confirm that I don’t have to put the parking break on and put the car in neutral, I just prefer to have my clutch in and foot on break and in first gear is this okay?
Don't really know much about beta blockers, such as how strong it is as you have to be careful for it to to be so strong that is makes you unfit to drive, but things like Rescue Remedy are ok.
Lightly, like holding a raw egg. Hold it too tight and you will find you wobble and veer from one side to another. If you find yourself holding it too tight due to nerves then release the grip slightly and move your fingers around a bit to 'loosen' / relax your hands and therefore grip
Depends what you want tips on, but here are some tips on dealing with anxiety / nerves: ua-cam.com/play/PL8-cAqyDz_ZY50-0Kt5FSHBeMeyYYhjek.html Or here are some general tips from others who are either learning or passed their test. ua-cam.com/video/8RrXDWDJ4Jg/v-deo.html
just failed my test the examiner said the round about was clear you shouldn't have slow down to 2nd gear i was in 4th gear how on earth am i supposed to go into a round about in 4th gear ?
Sorry to hear you were unsuccessful on your test. Providing you were going 20mph (ish), which if the roundabout was clear then this is likely your speed, then most cars will struggle away and still work in 4th gear without stalling. Did you have your instructor sat in on your test? If not then it might be an idea next time, as they can give you a second opinion over your drive and help you to understand any areas of improvement.
There are no set 'rules' for what is not a fault, what is a driver fault and a serious fault. It alls depends on how the individual examiner considers the individual circumstances. In terms of faults for driving too slow you might consider are: - How long are you driving at that speed for, 1 minute? 10 minutes? - is it effecting anyone? is the road busy or quiet? - why are you driving at the slower speed? Are there any major hazard to consider or a 'clear' road? So basically doing 50mph on a 70mph road could be quite a serious thing, like on a busy motorway, but other times doing 50mph on a 70mph could be way too fast, perhaps when negotiating roundabout on a dual carriageway. Essentially you need to drive like a driver, if you are driving like a learner and being overtaken on the high speed roads or driving un-smoothly in build up areas due to driving too fast, then you will still be a learner at the end of the test. Prove to the examiner that you are no longer a learner and can drive confidently and smoothly then you are likely to end up with a full driving licence.
I think the signal rule is stupid on the test, what is the signal there for? To warn people of your intentions, if we indicate after EVERY vehicle has passed us then what is the point in using it in the first place?
Which part of the video are you referring to? Can you add a time stamp? I can explain further. It sounds like you are saying you MUST always signal in every situation on test? Which is untrue. if there is no one to benefit from a signal you could not signal and you would NOT get marked down. Of course there is no harm in signalling, so often some prefer to signal "just in case"
@@UKDrivingTest It's not the video just in general, like for example. You've just pulled up on the left, the instructor says "Pull away when it is safe to do so" apparently in your test if you indicate when cars are coming up behind you and they decide to slow down to allow you to pull out you can get marked down for that, so you should only signal when the cars have passed in which point I believe no one would benefit as they have all passed you.
@@xbluewolfy1741 ah ok. I have heard about the thing that if you signal to pull away and someone lets you go you fail. Best advise if to only signal when you have a gap to go, just no point sitting there with a signal on when unsafe to go imo. Only time I would consider signalling to create a gap is if on a busy road, and typically on test you do not stop on busy roads (well at least around here). As for how it is marked on the test I have had people do it before and then car behind slows and lets them go, candidate had pulled away and examiner has then thanked the driver behind, no more mention of the incident. I suspect the myth that it is a fail is a case of Chinese whispers, no doubt it happened to someone once but there was more to the incident, like they pull out before the car behind had slowed and let them go, they kinda used the signal to force their way out.
@@xbluewolfy1741 In general there are lots of myths that driving instructor believe as much as the learners, so the myths get past down through the generations. Others ones being: - You MUST put handbrake on at a stop sign - You MUST do push pull steering - You MUST hold the wheel at 10 to 2 - Touch the kerb is an immediate FAIL! Some of these myths are explained on my two videos on the subject: Part 1: ua-cam.com/video/wBXGCfRfiUM/v-deo.html Part 2: ua-cam.com/video/bF4o3QoLoxE/v-deo.html
These are tips from others who are learning ua-cam.com/video/8RrXDWDJ4Jg/v-deo.html That aside: - Focus on what your instructor has taught you - Let the examiner be responsible for assessing your driving and directing you, don't try to assess your own driving and go a different way if needed and let the examiner redirect you. - Demonstrate that you no longer should be a learner, i.e. driver confidently, safely and legally.

I think it's better to keep the videos at real time rather than speed up the boring parts, as although they're more dull due to lack of interaction and a real life experience will differ, new drivers have to learn patience while on the road anyway.
Thanks for the input James
I passed 12 years ago on the 31st January 2007. I learnt in both manual and automatic but ended up taking my test in automatic as manual was too difficult for me. @@UKDrivingTest Feeling quite confident actually, although I have struggled with hesitation at junctions and roundabouts the most on my lessons
@@lloydhiggins3008ok cool, i am hoping to make a video on reducing hesitation soon.
But in the mean time consider these things:
- When at a junction/roundabout look for gaps! many people look for cars and then get overwhelmed
- Go to a quiet road and practice drag starts!

How did it go?
I'm watching this 5 days after passing. It was my 3rd attempt and I had two minor faults. 1st attempt was back in February and i had 12 minors and 1 serious fault for stalling while changing lane at traffic lights. 2and Attempt I had 7 faults and 2 serious faults, 1 was for stopping over the line on traffic lights ( the line was really faded) and meeting situation(I caused a car to slow down as I overtook a parked car)
well done on passing.

I got my test on Thursday and nervous are kicking in now 😬

I messed up on parallel parking, instead of full locking the steering while right, I did it left so I was going to hit a parked car 😭😭
Well done Michael !!
I like the explanation during the test 👍
Glad you liked it!

Would you advice about country road do I need to change to 2nd gears at
the bends or just brake a little bit with good steering. Thank you
@@lilaalaoui5058 it depends on how sharp the bends are and what car you are driving.

Stay calm and remember no matter what happens you will learn a lot from it.
passed. time flys during the test@@UKDrivingTest
I got my test Wednesday
What if you drive under 30mph in tight areas is that allowed?
@@UKDrivingTest Thanks so much for your response. Very helpful!!!
Just changing lanes is less risky, as long as you can clearly see both sides of the crossing are clear and no risk of light changing or pedestrian stepping into the road.
got second one this week first one failed by one major at start of test due to observation at closed junction.
I love the content, very useful
Just beginning to learn
Wow that's quite a tough route that!
Most of Crawley is like this, the way to think of it is if you can drive in Crawley you can pretty much drive anywhere!
At the very first roundabout, shouldn't he be in the left lane because the 3rd exit is towards the left hand side of the roundabout?

Hi,
Can I take the test driving my own car? Should it have the "L" plate somewhere? I am not a learner or new driver at all (I drive since I'm 15, now in my 30's), been driving in the UK in the last months with my international licence, but need to take this test in a few weeks
As you probably know you can drive in the UK for up to 12 months on your non-UK licence, so no l plates required for that bit.
HOWEVER, in order to continue driving after 12 months you need to apply for a UK provisional licence and pass the theory and practical test, for the practical test you can use you car but you must display L plates.
www.gov.uk/driving-test/using-your-own-car
I would strongly recommend you take some driving lessons for an approved driving instructor before taking a practical test as drivers from other countries often fail their UK driving test several times due to their driving standards not being up to scratch (I believe the pass rate for foreign licence holders with no training is worst than a true learner driver taking their test).

Did u pass?
How did you take footage in Ireland not allowed to record ,examinor will first remove it 🤣🙏☘
Not sure of exact rules in Ireland, but sure it would be the same as the UK.
You can have a dash camera with no sound, as that is more of a insurance / safety thing. Just can't record the examiner, i.e. no inward facing camera and no sound.
Looked a tough test route that.Probably a lot have come a cropper with that.
So much has changed since I passed my test

Lightly, like holding a raw egg.

If you find yourself holding it too tight due to nerves then release the grip slightly and move your fingers around a bit to 'loosen' / relax your hands and therefore grip

just failed my test the examiner said the round about was clear you shouldn't have slow down to 2nd gear i was in 4th gear how on earth am i supposed to go into a round about in 4th gear ?
Sorry to hear you were unsuccessful on your test.
Providing you were going 20mph (ish), which if the roundabout was clear then this is likely your speed, then most cars will struggle away and still work in 4th gear without stalling.
Did you have your instructor sat in on your test? If not then it might be an idea next time, as they can give you a second opinion over your drive and help you to understand any areas of improvement.
That’s just stupid wtf I would complain about that you would’ve failed for NOT slowing down!

Did you pass ?
I have my test on Saturday I am very nervous.
Failed mine last week, was gutted
I have failed for driving slowly , he was going 50 on 70 speed limit and examiner did’nt mark .any advice pls ?
There are no set 'rules' for what is not a fault, what is a driver fault and a serious fault. It alls depends on how the individual examiner considers the individual circumstances.
In terms of faults for driving too slow you might consider are:
- How long are you driving at that speed for, 1 minute?
My test is next month manual test I’m so nervous
What if you can’t see the number plate 20 metre would they able to move closer or what?
This is how the eyesight test will work:
ua-cam.com/video/meGOMRmDtNA/v-deo.html
Others ones being:
- You MUST put handbrake on at a stop sign
- You MUST do push pull steering
- You MUST hold the wheel at 10 to 2
- Touch the kerb is an immediate FAIL!
Some of these myths are explained on my two videos on the subject:

My 2nd test is tomorrow do you have any tips ?
These are tips from others who are learning ua-cam.com/video/8RrXDWDJ4Jg/v-deo.html
That aside:
- Focus on what your instructor has taught you
- Let the examiner be responsible for assessing your driving and directing you, don't try to assess your own driving and go a different way if needed and let the examiner redirect you.
- Demonstrate that you no longer should be a learner, i.e. driver confidently, safely and legally.
