Besides Hotel California, I would say the opening line from Someone Saved My Life Tonight from Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy. "I remember those eastern lights muggy nights, from the little room down stairs" you should do a episode on this song Adam, it has a great backstory!
In 1977 my parents had broke up, Mom was raising three kids on her own, working as a cashier. Every Friday was payday, and she would bring home a new 8-track. Eagles 71-75 Greatest Hits was played virtually every day for the next 10 years. Thanks Mom for raising me right, Eagles fan for life. 🎸 Love you Mom, miss you everyday ♥️
Esteemed Professor, two things, Eagles were wise enough to evolve from album to album. The rise of of Frey and Henley as songsmiths of the first order certainly gave the band a lasting appeal. They succeeded in a large way where Poco did not. Also, you are so good at pointing out how music is the soundtrack for our memories. My childhood memories are accompanied by the sounds emanating from a cheap transistor radio that played into my ears and was recorded by my heart, and I hit the playback button regularly. Keep up the labor of love.
The idea of Frey and Browne both living next to each other in the same building has always blown my mind. What are the odds of unknown talents on that level moving in next to each other? The other thing that blows my mind is that Jackson wrote Doctor My Eyes at 18 yo. He must have a wise old soul.
@Anna Trail Hi Anna! How are you doing, sweet one? Doing pretty good myself. Been treating myself and my wife to some bargains during the Black Friday thing. It's always nice getting new things, right? LOLOL - Jstn
@Anna Trail Sending you my best thoughts to win those daily battles. Money is always a bit tricky for us, and as the new year approaches so do my big bills for each year, but at this moment we had a few bucks we could spare so we upgraded some small appliances (microwave, coffee grinder, toaster, etc) while everything is on sale. I even scored a really nice smart TV for a song 🎵. LOLOL So, our day to day is generally more pleasant right now. For that I am truly grateful, as it's not often that way. I hope things go that way for you. Happy Holidays!!!
Probably a lot better than you'd expect. When you get into these sorts of professions the world is a lot smaller than you'd imagine. I remember in a previous career, it only took me a few years to meet just about all the major players in the entire state through various events. And when you're talking about musicians that are just starting out, there's a limited number of places where you're going to be able to go an soak up the new music being made.
Imagine being the guys who gave him a ride and witnessed the writing of that song. They spent hours with an absolute legend. They had stories to tell!!
I don’t know if you’ll see this, Professor, but my father passed earlier in the month this video dropped, and crazy enough Take It Easy was one of his favorite songs. I remember being a kid listening to my dad play it on his guitar, and eventually learned guitar myself to play it too. Thank you for breaking down the history. I would have shared the video with him if he was still with us.
Every time I hear any Eagles song... I'm instantly back in my dad's Ford!! Riding around with him, going camping and learning to drive in that truck at 13 years old. Three years later, he had converted his pickup into a flat bed. Needless to say this song quickly became my favorite for cruising on Friday or Saturday nights, when dad would let me borrow his truck to go to the Loop. Even though it was the 80s, I was a true 70's Eagles girl, driving a flatbed Ford. Thanks for a great tell on this .. sending it to my dad now to listen. ❤️💕
As a Flagstaff resident, thanks for making sure our amazing town got its due for its role in this incredible Jackson Browne song. You misspoke-flagstaff is 60 miles to the west (not East) of Winslow, but all good...this was a great episode, as always. Browne deserves more credit than he gets in the songwriting world, and segments like this help give him his due.
As a person who has road tripped through the entire western US over the past 25 years, and who has stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, this song is an absolute staple of every road trip playlist I've ever created. Probably a top 20 all time rock-pop song in my lifetime.
You'll never do wrong listening to any classic rock while on a hammock in a Sunday afternoon. Eagles, Bread, and so many other rock bands of the '70s are so great to listen to
I’ve seen Jackson over 50 times and hosted him for a private show for 100 friends here in Cincinnati in 2016. I think he’s up there with the finest songwriters of all time. I put him up there with the likes of Dylan, Springsteen, etc. His catalogue is amazing. The album Late for the Sky is epic. And, he’s a super nice guy.
LTFS is the greatest album of all time IMO. I was born in ‘69 and literally raised on his music. He’s always been my favorite and always will be. Finally made it to that corner in Winslow in 2021, a major bucket list item. I was sad how the gift shops made it more of an Eagles song and gave little bling to JB.
@@danniepainter3521 Agreed. It's #1 for my 'desert island ' records. I still remember how I felt when first hearing that album. "Keep a fire burning in your eye........."
I met Jackson Browne a few years ago after he played at the Lummis Festival in LA. My uncle was in the band for that show so we got to go back and meet Jackson. He was such a gracious guy. He talked to my two young teen boys for a good 5 minutes or so about their own music when they told him they played guitar. He showed such interest and encouragement they have never forgotten him. Just a classy thing to do when you have a bunch of people around you after a show trying to get your attention
Jackson Brown is such an important part of music history and is often overlooked. Without him we wouldn't have the music that we all enjoy so much today. Great show as usual Adam.
Jackson Brown allowed Stevie Ray Vaughan to record his first album, Texas Flood, in his studio. So without him we wouldn`t have that album either, at least in its current form. Maybe not at all.
@@baneverything5580 It's amazing how things happened that most know very little about. Without these "events" the course of music may have been different. I Love these kinds of stories.
Hats off to your dad, Professor! Now we know where your gift of sharing the stories of the songs comes from. It’s in the genes - and FROM THE HEART. Keep on Rockin’, Brother!
"Lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand." I fall back to this line on many occasions. Jackson Browne is a well you can keep going to for consolation.
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 Jackson can paint a picture and a setting with his words that is unmatched in any music I can find today. If you aren't familiar with a lot of his work I would suggest listening to his acoustic versions of "Sky Blue and Black" or "Shape of a Heart" (also the acoustic) where he can put more emotion behind them. Same goes for "All Good Things".
I'm so sorry for the loss of your dad, Professor. You honor him and his legacy when you tell these great stories of your discussions and his influence on you. I was born in '63 and it sounds as if he and I were of the same era (I'm near the tail end of a set of 8 sibs). What's funny from my perspective is that you look too young to remember the eighties! Thanks for all the great back stories and for taking me back to the music I grew up on.
amsterdamsal-Ditto. Prof. Of Rock is so young. I always feel like he's my age when sharing his love and respect for the music of my generation. Love this channel. Always does a great job!
Great piece Adam. Your dad must be smiling down on you, mighty proud of his son. You touch more lives in a single episode than many might in their lifetime. Keep up the amazing work! Cheers from Canada.
Thanks for this. My Dad was a big Eagles fan. Today would have been his 76th Birtthday. He passed in February this year, Miss him a ton! Happy Birthday Dad
One of my favourite musicians of all time, his songs instantly give me nostalgia. "Somebody's Baby" and "Running on Empty" are probably my favourite tracks of his.
During a cross-country vacation before I got married, I actually stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona. Thanks for being there for me more times in my life than I can count, fellas. A forever Eagles fan ❤
For 50 frig'n years, "Take It Easy" has been on my Top 10, but I never knew that Jackson Browne was the genesis of that great tune. I travel past Winslow on my way to visit my daughter several times a year and it "ALWAYS" triggers thoughts of the Eagles and Glenn Frey - to the point that I stage "Take It Easy" to play as I approach Winslow. I'll continue to stage "Take It Easy" through my travels, but now I get to add your story and Jackson Browne to my internal sound track as I'm "running down the road..." Thanks Prof. Who says you can't teach an ol 'dog a new trick or three.
There's a show on hbo called laurel canyon it actually shows them working on that song together! Great show two or three parts all about the music scene back in them days!
When Glenn Frye passed away, the "Standing on the corner" foundation, ran a fund raiser and had a 2nd Bronze statue made and placed in the park, none other than Glenn Frye himself. What a fitting tribute to the artists and the forever memorable song!
I worked at a pizza place in NW Arkansas owned by a couple who were close personal friends of the Frye's. They mentioned being at the Frye's house, I jokingly said, "who, Glenn Frey" and they answered actually, yes.
Ahhh, that tribe of LA singer/songwriters in the 70s. Jackson, Joni, the Eagles, CSN... seriously amazing stuff. Jackson rarely gets much coverage. Thanks for this one. And your dad sounds like a guy I'd love to have known. He's out there somewhere, and really proud of you :)
@@chiefline7084 she was hanging with the gang when she moved to California. She was the goddess of the group. I believe Fountain of sorrow was written about her 😀
I think I’m probably about your dad’s age. I agree with his assessment. This song still resonates with me. At the time, it evoked a sense of freedom and the road. Now it’s surreal nostalgia.
I really like the story, especially those young guys helping each other. The American spirit of helping a neighbor, even if that neighbor is a new friend who lives 9 hours away.
wow this is a great story to know. music is food for the soul so keep it going or we will starve and fade away in the wind, take it easy is one of my faves. this channel brings deep forgotten feeling to light when i look back and smile for the most wonder years of my life. thank you its is priceless. Adam looks like you had an Awesome dad .lucky
Hi Rock Fans. I went to Winslow a little over a month after Glenn passed away. It was a Sunday morning, at the beginning of March. People were there already standing at the corner taking pictures. For me it was a Bucket List Moment. "Take it Easy" has been one of my Favourite songs since the '80's. Also a Great Road Trip song.
Hotel California was my introduction to Eagles...but Take It Easy is my favorite. Didn't know that Jackson Browne wrote it...and the story behind is fabulous. Take It Easy is always one of the first tracks I put on my play list when doing a road trip. Just sets the mood to calm down...get there when you get there...and enjoy the adventure. Thanks Professor for the story behind the music.
It is their signature song, but most people overlook Take it Easy. It’s one of my favorite songs that the Eagles did. The best songs for calming down anxiety.
Thanks for your honoring your dad - that was very nice to hear. As a late Boomer, graduated HS in ‘76, the Eagles and America were THE BANDS that defined my experience. Yes, Lynyrd Skynyrd was key, too, but it is the Eagles early stuff that awakens my somnolent immortal youth hiding in the recesses of my mind.
From their rich catalog of terrific songs, "Take It Easy" has always been my favorite Eagles song. It was their first major hit that launched their careers as they became the most successful American pop band of the 1970's. The song "Take It Easy" also made the town Winslow, Arizona famous through its lyrics. Great song.
it's amazing to learn the stories about these legendary songs- I imagine what being in Laurel Canyon was like back then with all these incredible musicians and songwriters! So much good music from a time where people really lived the ideal: "Take it Easy" :)
Despite not being my favourite Eagles' song, Take it easy always reminds me of the Knight rider's first episode and also of a fan from the Hell freezes over DVD showing a picture of her "standing on a corner in Winslow, Arizona". Being more a fan of british rock myself, I think the 70s started with the Beatles' desintegration but (imho) they 'officially' began with two records from 1971, the Rolling Stones' Sticky fingers and Led Zeppelin IV. Great one Adam, btw.
I was 12 - in fact, it peaked on my 13th birthday. It was the 1st song I actually pooled my allowance and spare change, went to the record store and bought the 45. The 1st record I ever bought. It hooked me the 1st time I heard it.
Wonderful homage to your father! One I can particularly relate to. I too, recall hearing Take it Easy for the first time. Ironically, my father hated rock but found that song almost enjoyable. He loved the banjo riff at the end. A band that transcends music genres left their mark on history and will always be one of the greatest of all time. I also love the influences of artists who are not nearly as notorious (Jackson Browne) but we’re such a dominant force in the industry. Jackson reminds me of another massive talent whom I feel was always underrated and that would be George Harrison. But that’s another story. Great video!
I was 13 in 1972 and was a budding rock fan. As my taste and love of music grew, Jackson Browne was always one of my favorites. I got to see him in NYC in the 80s. Those were the good old days…and the music was amazing! Thanks for doing this show. I just subscribed!
I was also 13 when this song came out. Eagles was always and will always be my favorite band. I plan to go see them live in Tampa March 28th 2023. Glen fry will live on in our hearts forever.
I'm a singer songwriter, and I play a lot of solo acoustic gigs. Take It Easy is one of my "go to" tunes, because I know beyond any doubt that I can pull it out and and everyone, I mean EVERYONE will be singing along. One of the great American songs! And I loved seeing Glen Frey with his California Jam T-shirt.... I was there!
I have deep affections for this song and group. I listened to their greatest hits over and over in 1984-86 on my walkman as I rode a train back and forth from college in Miami. Its such a vivid memory and it never leaves me but transports me back every time. Thank you for the story behind this great piece!!
Can you imagine being the mechanics in Winslow, or Buckmaster and friends, knowing they were involved with the creation of that massive hit? And telling friends for decades that was the case, and they say, "Sure you were, bud, sure you were..."
Eagles, Jackson Browne, Warren Zevon, and Linda Ronstadt dominated my ears the summer between my freshman and sophomore years in high school. My older brother introduced me to all of them. It was my fondest memory of a summer ever. It was that transition from a geeky freshman to the first steps of manhood. I will always love this music. Linda did so many covers of their music, and each had a hand in the other’s it seems. Sharing backing vocals on the other’s albums. I didn’t even know it then, it was just music we listened to that summer. Your videos always take me back to a time, and they are always good times, even when they might not have felt like it when they were happening. I love that you and your dad talked music. My dad and I talked very little growing up, and I wish we’d have had something to talk about. Peace Professor! Keep this great content coming!
I think the greatest line isn't one line. It is the line that hit you at that right moment and kept you looking for more of that moment. So much music brings you there, that I don't know if I could point to just one line.
Man! I not too proud to say your commentary about you and your dad made me tear up! My dad and I played in a band when I was a teen in the 70's (covered many Eagles tunes). We seldom got along for very long at a time before ticking each other off... but there was no one else in my universe that I could talk about music to like I could him (ALS took him in '91). Fantastic job talking about the song and the Eagles legacy!
Your dad was right, I was there too, and this song turned the corner on the previous decade. A whole new feel to music! I was at Target last month when this song came on, and a stranger and I were singing along to it in the pharmacy aisle. It not only gets better with age, it’s ageless.
What a great episode! Jackson Browne, Credence Clearwater Revival, Santana, Glenn Frey, The Smiths [LOVE "How Soon Is Now?"], Prince, all favorites of mine! Jackson Browne always makes me think of Bob Seger, another Rock Legend that I'm a huge fan of. And I agree, Jackson Browne is an amazing, talented storyteller.
Always have loved this song! I actually sang backup with some buddies of mine when I was 17 to this song. We got into a bar by saying we were part of the band. The door guys made us go straight to the stage and fortunately my buddies started playing “Take it Easy”. I can’t sing at all and was pretty messed up, but we can all sing backup to this legendary classic! Thanks for the trip down memory lane and keep doing what you do Adam..
Jackson is a great story teller, his tune running on empty was my theme as a teen keeping the gas tank filled. Take it easy was the gateway song to the seventies and the era of the Eagles so your father nailed it. We felt the same way at that time.
Another amazing story. I remember hearing Glenn Fry relate the story onstage during a concert. Glenn always shared the best stories and made Eagles music come alive. He shared where he was and his state of mind.
My husband and I made a pilgrimage to “The Corner” in April 2021. Lots of fans of all ages were there getting photos of themselves at the corner. A souvenir store blasts Eagles music out in the street. We had great fun in Winslow!
Made it there in July of 2021 with my daughter. A big bucket list item. Was just sad that it was mostly presented as an Eagles tune. JB should have a better presence there in the gift shops.
The beat of Take It Easy really sounds like being in a car on the highway as the miles tick by under the wheels, it's a perfectly constructed song with lyrics that paint a picture in your mind. A true classic!
Once again you blow me away at the depth of your knowledge of behind the scenes of Rock & Roll songs I guess I should not be surprised when someone has a passion for something it comes through in there work!
It's so awsome that you had that relation with your Dad and were able to talk with him about the music you grew up with him. I didn't have that with my Dad, he's still alive ( I'm 61, he's 93 ), we talk about his music, Big Band Era, European and Spanish songs. It's still cool but with my generation 70s and 80s music at least I can listen to you and the great stories, thanks.
There is no doubt in my mind that this is one of the greatest of all youtube channels, and stands as a great justification for the existence of the website. Consistent high quality of subject matter and the inside track on the music that moved us through our lives. I've been a fan of Eagles since the late 70s - since I picked up an ex-jukebox 45rpm copy of Hotel California with New Kid In Town on the b-side. I got married, and divorced to eagles songs, with Peaceful Easy Feeling and Tequila Sunrise becoming my own soundtrack. Me, along with tens of thousands of guys of my generation. But if you want to talk about a great lyricist, try Elvis Costello "Don't tell me you don't know what love is - When you're old enough to know better - When you find strange hands in your sweater"
I was there. July 1973 at the Paramount Theater in Seattle, Washington to see Jackson Browne in concert. I talked my date into smuggling in my portable cassette recorder under her dress and I bootlegged the concert. A child of the 60's I have been grateful for the best ever era of music to witness first hand.
Appreciate your heartfelt comments about the discussions you had with your Dad when you were growing up. I can relate both as a son and as a father with my own son. Now he entertains and educates his circle of friends with his Spotify subscription. He enjoys playing DJ whenever his friends get together. Keep on Truckin' Professor.
It was JB and Eagles that lead me not to want to play an Instrument, but to write and sing songs. I’ve written over 400 songs and have been singing professionally for 40 years. I can honestly say that those two gifts were inspired by the words of Take It Easy, Witchy Woman, Doctor My Eyes and Running On Empty. Inspired to tell stories of people and places, I developed a king sense of observation that has made my life’s journey special and rewarding. Our lives are never as boring as we may think, when observed by a writer and paired with melody.
From 1971 to 1985 Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey produced so many songs that defined American Folk/Country Rock. Great song too. Winslow Arizona would never be the same. Thanks for this story, Professor. Keep em coming!
Hard to argue against Take It Easy and Eagles in general... knowing the volume of sales associated with their albums and Greatest Hits collections. Truly a defining song of a decade and genre. Hope to make the pilgrimage to that corner one of these days. Cheers
Love the music of Eagles and Jackson Browne and love this story. Nothing like those 70’s groups I grew up listening to them because of my older brother and I am forever grateful. We even saw the Eagles together 10 to 12 years ago or so with all of the members including Joe Walsh what a great concert.
Great tribute to the Eagles, Jackson Browne and your Pops. The first time I heard Take It Easy in 1971 it instantly became my favourite song and has remained that way 51 years later. I didn't fully appreciate Jackson's song writing until the Running on Empty album in 1978 which I also fell in love with and then promptly went back and purchased everything he'd done up until then. I'd love to have a beer with him, sounds like a great guy. Great insights from your Dad too. I wholeheartedly agree with him that this song transitioned us from the 60's to the 70's. Never heard it put that way before. Very poetic.
Great to hear the backstory behind this watershed song. Oh to be in LA in the early 70s when all this magical musical collaboration was going on! Your dad definitely deserves the win in that discussion, too. Thx Adam!
Don't want to rub it in but I was here. I saw Linda at the Whiskey with the Eagles backing here. I fell in love. She was wearing short little jean shorts and a tied up white top. She was nursing a sore throat with shots of something and apologizing for her raspy voice. Thank professor for bringing back some of these great memories. If you are really interested there is a video out called "legends of the canyon", that is as close to a documentary of this time and place as I have ever found
I have been an eagles fanatic since 1972. Still am. Took my grandkids in Nov for the 50th anniversary of Hotel California. They love them too. I want only Eagles tunes played at my funeral.
That's a fantastic analogy "where the 60s ended and the 70s began " The song that introduced us to some of the predominant sounds with a carefree spirit of don't let the thoughts in your head trip you up and take in the moment. Great story behind one of the most iconic songs of Americana, great deep dive professor!
Exactly! The 70s did not really start in January 1970, a lot of songs at that time were recorded or released in 1969! Take it Easy has such a great message, about not letting a bad thought ruin your whole day. Just take it easy, take in your surroundings. Breathe.
A fantastic song and equally fantastic story. I wonder how different things may have been if Browne had kept the song for himself, as it seems like the perfect Eagles song. If I ever make it to Arizona, I'm going to that corner and have my photo taken. Sure, it's a cliche but still going to do it. :-)
I don't know about anyone else but, I almost always have to go listen to the song that Professor of Rock covers! This one I listen to three times! Thanks Professor of Rock I love how you cover music! Kudos to your dad...dang he was good looking!
Jackson Browne is my favorite singer songwriter. His lyrics are on a much deeper level than any just about any other songwriter I've listened to. He wrote "These Days" when he was 16 yrs old. What 16 year old could come up with that closing line? ......"Don't confront me with my failures, I have not forgotten them"....Wow!
All GF & Eagles accolades aside, Jackson Browne (much like Dan Fogelberg) is a criminally underrated and overlooked lyrical wordsmith and composer. FWIW: My Fave JB LP is 1980's 'Hold Out'.
For a country song, one of the best first lines is from Clint Blacks’ “Killing Time.” …You were the first thing that I thought of, when I thought I drank you off my mind…
I saw Clint Black years ago in concert. Opened for Alabama. Outdoor concert. The crowd was really enthusiastic and I remember Clint Black saying “ Y’all’s raising some heck tonight!” Great concert.
This is the best opening line. Your dad was a musical genius that produced an heir. 🙏❤️. Your memory of your dad touched me as I think of my dad almost every day since his death in 2018. Thank God for memories..
I love both Jackson Browne & the Eagles! My favorite from Jackson Browne is ‘The Load Out’, giving us a peek into what living on the concert circuit is like. From the Eagles, my overall favorite is ‘Desperado’, such a lonesome, haunted feel to it. I could fill pages with song titles from my very eclectic span of genres I enjoy. Music can speak for you when you can’t say a word- absolutely can’t live without music! Thanks for another great episode Prof!😊
The load out is a great song and so is Running on Empty that song is my personal favorite from Jackson Browne and I've seen the video for that song and it describes life on the road also.
Listening to The Eagles reminds me of my stepdad. He introduced me to the band in the early 80's, and I think of him every time I hear one of their songs, especially the ones on their greatest hits album from the early years. Thanks for bringing up some great memories, Professor.
Love the Eagles version and Jackson Browne's version on his Everyman album. There's a song for every man on that record, love Redneck Friend it has some fantastic slide guitar on it,forget the guy's name but he's a great guitarist. Gotta say JB is one of my favorites from the seventies. Take it easy everybody. 😀🤪
@@garytrew2766 currently David is very ill. I pray he makes a recovery. He’s one of the greatest multi-instrumentalists ever. He really helped shaped Jackson’s early music.
I'm a boomer, in the late sixties and early seventies my parents religiously turned popular music off, whenever it came on the radio. They were adults during WWII and I was born twenty years later. Eagles were one of the very few bands that were allowed to be played. I don't know how but I love music, I have worked at a touring venue and seen many bands. I love live music but hate the stadium performances. The theatre I worked held 2500 people, everyone could see the performers. If you go to a concert and have to watch a screen, stay at home. I have to agree with your Dad, this song does mark the start of the seventies and the end of the sixties. I love your work, keep on going.
Funnily, it wasn't the original version that I first heard, or that became definitive to me, but a cover version by Travis Tritt - which ultimately led to them getting back together when he wanted them to appear in the video for his version.
Dear Professor, I am 77 years old, never paid much attention to any kind of music except maybe the Beach Boys and the alike in the late 60s. but Now that I am old 77, rock and roll, heavy metal, electric guitars, crazy vocals have caught my imagination, damn even classical. You (and a few others) skillfully and passionately explained to me what music is, where it came from and the price paid by the people who made it alive. This is weak but, Thank You!
So I didn't know Jackson Browne and Glenn Frey actually celebrated on this song! How great is that? I actually met Jackson Browne at the Starwood in Hollywood, and ended up drinking with him! (Long story). Jackson Browne is a amazing songwriter, and a very friendly and funny guy. As far as the opening line to Take It Easy being the greatest opening line ever, is one I am not sure about. I would say the opening line to Hotel California is. Both great songs though!
Eagles remind me of my youth in Colorado in the 70s. It especially makes me think of my Aunt P. My parents split (one of many times) when I was 7 and we were living with Aunt P and her family in Commerce City. She would always play Eagles on her HiFi stereo while she was cleaning and dance around. I told her this yesterday and I hope it made her smile because it sure made me smile. Thanks Professor for helping to keep my youth alive by sharing these amazing stories!!
I knew Jackson wrote 'Taking It Easy'. Found that out from my Girlfriend when I said listen to this new Eagles hit. She laughed and told me Jackson Browne wrote it for his buddy Glen Frye. Note: I've been to the Statue on the corner!
I love the way you honor your dad. Music (even though we have way different tastes) is about the only thing that my son and I have really connected on. We get along really well and enjoy doing quite a few things together, but only when we are discussing music do we both seem to have the same passion. We both wake up with a different song in our heads and we both sing along to the radio, and now so does his daughter.
I had no idea Jackson was involved with this song. A legend in his own right. Love these stories. And the kids are getting a great music history lesson here.

I miss the 70's. Now, I'm in the 70's again. I'm getting old. Eagles and Jackson Browne and Linda Rhonstadt. My favorites!
The idea of Frey and Browne both living next to each other in the same building has always blown my mind. What are the odds of unknown talents on that level moving in next to each other? The other thing that blows my mind is that Jackson wrote Doctor My Eyes at 18 yo. He must have a wise old soul.
It’s AMAZING. No wonder this song was hugely influenced by Browne. Doctor My Eyes is over 50 years old now. Still timeless.

I loved LOVE Dr. My Eyes!
With " 'Take it Easy', The sixties are over and the seventies have begun." Your dad nailed it.
Love the story! I can relate in many ways,,, and that's great that your dad is still around for you to share this with him! 👍🎸

Yes, I caught that misspoke as well.
Good to note it was a Flagstaff girl who was slowin’ down to take a look at him!
As a person who has road tripped through the entire western US over the past 25 years, and who has stood on a corner in Winslow, Arizona, this song is an absolute staple of every road trip playlist I've ever created. Probably a top 20 all time rock-pop song in my lifetime.
J.D. Souther doesn't get enought notice for the amazing music he wrote. Love him!
You'll never do wrong listening to any classic rock while on a hammock in a Sunday afternoon. Eagles, Bread, and so many other rock bands of the '70s are so great to listen to
Plus Steely Dan, Chicago, Doobie Brothers. Great stuff.

LINDA RONSTADT
I’ve seen Jackson over 50 times and hosted him for a private show for 100 friends here in Cincinnati in 2016. I think he’s up there with the finest songwriters of all time. I put him up there with the likes of Dylan, Springsteen, etc. His catalogue is amazing. The album Late for the Sky is epic. And, he’s a super nice guy.
Late for the sky is my all time favorite album. Every song on it has just amazing lyrics. Totally underrated album in my opinion.
The Late Show of that album is a masterpiece. Jackson is an American treasure. Still good, too.
I wish I knew him personally.
Adam's sheer joy when he quotes lyrics can totally make my day.
Thanks Erik!
Love Browne!
JB has long tentacles that reach all over the 70's and 80's. People know his songs but have no idea about his influence and reach.
Hats off to your dad, Professor! Now we know where your gift of sharing the stories of the songs comes from. It’s in the genes - and FROM THE HEART.
Keep on Rockin’, Brother!
"Lighten up while you still can, don't even try to understand."
I fall back to this line on many occasions. Jackson Browne is a well you can keep going to for consolation.
He's a master poet.
That line resonates with me so much. I have difficulty doing this sometimes. Next time I’ll just listen to the words of the great Jackson Browne.
@@hbofbyu1 All great songs worthy of breakdowns by Adam. We rightly recognize the Eagles but not Jackson Browne. We should change that.

One of my favourite musicians of all time, his songs instantly give me nostalgia. "Somebody's Baby" and "Running on Empty" are probably my favourite tracks of his.

Have you achieved perfect timing as you drive past Winslow playing this song?
Have you never heard Jackson's recording of Take it Easy? A little different arrangement, you should check it out if you like Browne.
When Glenn Frye passed away, the "Standing on the corner" foundation, ran a fund raiser and had a 2nd Bronze statue made and placed in the park, none other than Glenn Frye himself. What a fitting tribute to the artists and the forever memorable song!
Glenn deserved better.
Great way to honor this icon.
@@ProfessorofRock True he very much did, I was very glad to see Winslow do this, I know of no other long term tribute to Glenn, he was super talented
So many legends in the 70s.

I think I’m probably about your dad’s age. I agree with his assessment. This song still resonates with me. At the time, it evoked a sense of freedom and the road. Now it’s surreal nostalgia.
Great opening riff and line. "Been driving all night my hands wet on the wheel the voice in my head that drives my heel"

Wish I was there.
A friend of mine from high school made the sculpture that's "standing on the corner".
Thank you!
It is their signature song, but most people overlook Take it Easy. It’s one of my favorite songs that the Eagles did. The best songs for calming down anxiety.
I always hated Hotel California. Love Take it easy.
It's hard not to feel good while listening to Take It Easy. Great feel good song.
It's such a care free feel good song for sure.
A calming down song for when you’re so frustrated and stressed out like I was today.
From their rich catalog of terrific songs, "Take It Easy" has always been my favorite Eagles song. It was their first major hit that launched their careers as they became the most successful American pop band of the 1970's. The song "Take It Easy" also made the town Winslow, Arizona famous through its lyrics. Great song.
Right on all accounts!
it's amazing to learn the stories about these legendary songs- I imagine what being in Laurel Canyon was like back then with all these incredible musicians and songwriters!
Such a great song. Reminds me of traveling through the major American highways as a little girl.
The Eagles were a pop band?
I was 12 - in fact, it peaked on my 13th birthday. It was the 1st song I actually pooled my allowance and spare change, went to the record store and bought the 45. The 1st record I ever bought. It hooked me the 1st time I heard it.
One lady told me that she remembers buying the record for Take it Easy immediately after hearing it on the radio.
Awesome song I actually got stranded in Winslow Arizona And sung that song all week
Thanks! You know your stuff.
Such a nostalgic song from the band that screams America.
I was 13 in 1972 and was a budding rock fan. As my taste and love of music grew, Jackson Browne was always one of my favorites. I got to see him in NYC in the 80s. Those were the good old days…and the music was amazing! Thanks for doing this show. I just subscribed!
That was the song that hooked me. At 13 years old it was my first 45, and later the first album I purchased. What a time to be alive.
That's freaking awesome man!
I have deep affections for this song and group. I listened to their greatest hits over and over in 1984-86 on my walkman as I rode a train back and forth from college in Miami. Its such a vivid memory and it never leaves me but transports me back every time. Thank you for the story behind this great piece!!
What a great time to be alive in the history of rock! The best was growing up in the 60's thru the 80's!
Can you imagine being the mechanics in Winslow, or Buckmaster and friends, knowing they were involved with the creation of that massive hit? And telling friends for decades that was the case, and they say, "Sure you were, bud, sure you were..."
You’d attract a lot of people.
As long ago as that was, he may not be alive. I'm not hoping that, I'm just saying...
You presentations are spot-on! Jackson Browne gets my vote for best opening line with, what I call the PTSD Anthem, Doctor My Eyes.
As big and as popular as this classic song is, I'm surprised I've never heard about Jackson Brown's road trip that inspired it.
Not every UA-camr can make me laugh and not every UA-camr can make me cry. You my friend can do both. Kudos.
I like that !!👍especially the part about saying in the pharmacy along with the song!!🎸😀🐦
"Take It Easy" is certainly one of the best songs The Eagles ever recorded-Great backstory!
Because the harmonies are irresistible. No doubt classic.
Every time I hear an Eagles song, time stands still for the length of the song. Recharged for the rest of the day.
That is awesome!

The beat of Take It Easy really sounds like being in a car on the highway as the miles tick by under the wheels, it's a perfectly constructed song with lyrics that paint a picture in your mind. A true classic!

Thx Adam!
A magical time indeed. Thanks Robster!
I agree 100%
He’s amazing.
All I can say is, I miss the the 70’s, the music that is. I didn’t know it at the time but I was lucky to be there.
For a country song, one of the best first lines is from Clint Blacks’ “Killing Time.”
…You were the first thing that I thought of, when I thought I drank you off my mind…
Love that line!
It’s a great line.
Jackson is so underrated.
The Load Out is an amazing song.
Now the seats are all empty

The load out is a great song and so is Running on Empty that song is my personal favorite from Jackson Browne and I've seen the video for that song and it describes life on the road also.
I listen to The Loadout/Stay almost every day at bedtime. Calming. I’ll add “Ready or not” too.
Listening to The Eagles reminds me of my stepdad. He introduced me to the band in the early 80's, and I think of him every time I hear one of their songs, especially the ones on their greatest hits album from the early years.

@@cjcurtis8944 thank you I will be praying for him.
I miss my dad terribly and every time you speak about your father with such love and respect, I tear up with understanding . Thanks professor!
I live 8 miles outside of Winslow!
Serious? Have you ever taken your picture at the corner?
Cool! What is it like? Is it a big tourist city? What are your favorite attractions?
I agree with you about the big screen.. 🎸👍🐦
Funnily, it wasn't the original version that I first heard, or that became definitive to me, but a cover version by Travis Tritt - which ultimately led to them getting back together when he wanted them to appear in the video for his version.
That’s wild.
I love hearing about the relationship between your and your dad and discussing music!!!!
Taking it easy is the way it should be. I have no desire to put up a fight! 😒 💯
Right on!

I’m the same way. When I have to deal with Karens or something tough gets in the way of my studies…
Good call William. Both are great.
Browne sounds like a really cool dude!
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 I only met with him once, but he did seem really cool. This might be because he was drunk!🤣
@@williambenner701 Haha, no kidding! He got a kick! 😝
@@xxlilly_playsxxkiz9980 his body guard was even funnie, and he was sober! For good reason, who would want a drunk body guard?
Very cool.
I haven’t! I should plan a trip sometime.
Iconic American Road song. Fills me with mobile joy for memories alone. Keep those wheels 🛞 turning.
