God works in our life when we invite him in our life. God respects our free will. He doesn't violate our free will. If we want to go to heaven, he will take us there. If we want to go to hell, he will take us there too. Isn't it beautiful, that god bestowed so much power on us humans?

He should also have given these qualities to us by default.

Who told you to worship? Are you following your predecessors? Did god tell you to pray? Imagine a god who wants prayers so that god becomes happy and grants wishes, Are you not limiting god to someone who takes prayers to grant wishes?
These are all man-made. Man created god and god did not create anything.
Read Vedanta, it clearly says the universe happened and was not created.
