After ace’s death, everyone was mourning but she was the only one (initially) that understood that luffy was taking ace’s death the hardest. She wasn’t just crying for ace, she was crying for luffy, too. I think of makino as more of an older sister, and older sisters can also be protective and motherly to their younger siblings.

I think emu is luffy mom tbh it explains why she has eyes out for him along with vivi and honestly forgot who the other person was, when in moment in the story luffy wasn’t perceived as a real treat yet I also don’t think dragon saved luffy all those times I think he did the first time but not the other two I think those where emu I also believe thiers more to emu then where getting I believe theirs two sides to her one that who wants to rule and another that cares for people and that why she has luffy wanted poster if you look back at that scene she’s holding and looking at luffy poster and then suddenly snaps and puts a knife in it. I have no real hard evidence, but I just have a feeling if Luffy’s biological mother is ever going to get mentioned or have any relevance, it’s going to turn out to be Imu. It would make sense that a child born to be a pirate king and sun god would be the child of the two most imposing figures in the world (pirate king reflecting the rebel half, and sun god reflecting the celestial half).
