Satan's Generals: William Joseph Seymour

  • William Joseph Seymour was born to freed slaves Simon and Phyllis Seymour in Centerville, Louisiana. In the 1890s, during the height of Dowie’s highly publicized ministry, Seymour traveled north on a journey of spiritual enlightenment through Memphis, St. Louis, and eventually Indianapolis, Indiana. There, he converted from the Roman Catholic Church to the Protestant faith through a Methodist church. Seymour was not fully committed to the Methodists, however, and was soon influenced into the Holiness faith through Daniel S. Warner’s “Evening Light Saints” sect just outside of Indianapolis. The “Evening Light Saints” was a radical Holiness group that focused heavily on the End of Days, basing their theology upon a verse in the book of Zechariah, Chapter 14 verse 7: "at evening time it shall be light." The peculiar sect considered their abstinence from coffee, tobacco, and modern clothing styles to be part of this “evening light.” Declaring that the End of Days was drawing near, they believed that their “light” was shining on those about to suffer the consequences of doomsday. It was in this sect that Seymour was ordained to be a minister.

This video reminds me of Sesame Street: “One of these is not like the others”
It feels like a desperate overreach, without solid logic. Seymour was definitely an outsider to Satans generals. His fruit was literally the OPPOSITE OF THE OTHERS!

As it was in the beginning of the faith, so it is now. In the midst of a move of Go, there will always be counterfeits. William Seymour was the real deal. Parham was the counterfeit. It is how Satan operates. Having a forrm of godliness but denying the powere thereof, from such turn away. Did Seymour's message reault in the inadvertent death of others like Parham? No it did not. Anyway, I always listen to the harshest critics to ascertain if what they are saying has substance. Sometimes yes, and sometimes no. And in this case, it is a 'no'. So thank you for taking the time in critiquing William Seymour - a fellow laborer in the harvest approved by God.

Seymour may've been a somewhat ignorant & unlearned man, but he was no fraud. God does truly use the most unlikely of people to carry out his purposes. Given the racism & low regard many had for blacks of the era, I'm hardly surprised by that Colorado woman's negative remarks😮.

Satan’s General? Pentecostal gets a bad name from people who preach bad doctrine. Reverence of the Holy Spirit and His Triune importance is far from Satanism. Ignorance is easier than studying the people you disagree with. We are to test our understanding and lean into truth wherever it leads. I personally went from Atheism to agnostic to theist to baptized Pentecostal Christian. How..through prayer and relationship with God. Moreover a formal education in sciences and physics helped me understand space time and dimensional space. Making a space outside 3rd dimensional experience aka the spiritual realm easier to understand. Seymours Revival brought in the Spirit that helped racist, bigoted fools come together in love in Christ in unity. If anything the world needs more of this.

But a false christ and also counterfeit un-Holy Spirit absolutely is. I have firsthand experience believing a delusional lie that Satan was the real Jesus. I have also repented and am now filled with the Holy Spirit through the redemption of Jesus. How do you know you aren't believing a false Jesus and false holy spirit deceiving you? I know the difference because I've believed both, and also have scripture to go to before my own feelings based on my firsthand experience of being deceived. I speak in tongues, I have been through deliverances, I've had several visions, I paint in deep worship and prayer, I have laid hands asking Jesus to heal people and speaking to their bodies, I am definitely not saying God is a liar so please don't respond accusing me of not believing in things I know to be true if that's all you're going to say.

When the Holy Spirit comes He convicts of sin, of righteousness, and of judgement. Sin because they do not believe, righteousness because He goes to the Father and we see Him no more and judgement because the ruler of this world is judged. [Jhn 16:8 NKJV] 8 "And when He has come, He will convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
[Jhn 14:26 NKJV] 26 "But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.

Seymour did not walk away from the revival with great money. He did not fake it. His doctrinal stance is laid out in his sermons and lines up with the Word and the writings of Paul concerning being Saved, Sanctified and Holy. He and 7 others fasted without food and water in Asbury’s home for 3 days until the Blessing came down. He believed only in tongues from real languages as 2 who went to his revival were interviewed in 1973 confirming this fact. If you do not believe that Seymour was right despite all proof, then you do not believe that Charles Harrison Mason was right as Bishop Mason got his Blessing with Tongues through Seymour in 1907 while the revival went on. If the revival was a false act of physical movement instead of quickening power, the revival would have died down after a few weeks and no good like healing or international evangelists spreading Holiness. You have to understand that before Parham in 1901 and Roberts in Wales in 1904, being Sanctified was as far as they had gotten and Seymour knew there was deeper. Seymour did not sit with a crate over his head. He fashioned a Podium and they say he was so humble, not thinking himself more important than any other believer, he prayed with his head inside the podium sometimes. Parham did not believe a black man should be head of the church nor should black and white folks hold service together. Where Seymour hoped Parham had deeper to assist in the revival, he did not. Yes, spiritualists and medium came to his revival but Seymour could not refuse them to come. But they could not sit under the Word. The Word is preached under the anointing that will draw or send away. He must have preached against it. If Seymour and his works were wrong concerning the revival, why did William Durham take control and begin preaching a different doctrine contrary to the Word? Why did Parham bother making a new church right down the Street from Azusa? It wasn’t to deliver souls that’s for sure.

    • @marklowery8193
      @marklowery8193 7 місяців тому

Also. Of the revival where doctrine split them, two movements came: the Assemblies of God following what William Durham taught (once saved always saved) and The Church of God in Christ following Bishop Mason who, like Seymour, believed that if you sinned you would lose your salvation. Bishop Mason received from William Seymour and went to work his Gift. Some prophets are called. Some prophets are sent.

That the majority of ‘christians’ (yes including the pentecostalist religion) really aren’t even biblical Christians, but worshippers of a false idol of your own creation. For example, the religious system celebrates the birth of their ‘jesus’ on Dec. 25. Same day as the pagan Roman sun god, Sol Invictus, and even made Sunday the official day of worship, Sunday = day of the sun god. But the Bible says the brethren gathered together to break bread daily..Acts 2:46. We’re just scratching the surface here, there’s so much more. See, the remnant is much, much, much smaller than adherents of the religious system realize. The vast majority of said remnant also has nothing to do with said religious system.

You make valid claims concerning many of the people you mentioned in this series but this one needs more research. The gift of the Holy Ghost seems strange to many and the people that are filled with the Holy Spirit are known for exuberant praise and worship. So what if Seymours crime was ecstatic worship? So what if Seymour did not pontificate in the pulpit like a Jonathan Edwards or Whitefield. Seymour did not do the abominable ,unspeakable things that Dowie and other psychotic people did. You need to consider the historical record before passing judgement.Put yourself in his shoes not 2023. Imagine Parham demanded that you to sit outside a ministry you started because of the color of your skin. Imagine that you were asked to simply step aside and give a ministry to Parham. In this series there is as strong need to compare apples with apples and oranges with oranges. Seymour is no where near the deception and influence as Dowie or Lake or the others. I don’t dare mention the name of the one you used because the corruption and subterfuge goes too deep. Seymour was simply passionate and truly believed that his experience was real and from God. I never heard you describe to the viewers how he is one of “Satans Generals” and I hope that viewers do their due diligence because they will find out that Seymour was simply passionate and taught that prayer should have been his focus. Volume 1 covers some of the historic leaders of Pentecostalism. Some of these go back to the foundations such as in this case Seymour. Others covered in this volume include Dowie, Lake and others. The volume also covers some who came later such as Wigglesworth, Coe, Branham and again some others. I did not give the complete list.
But as far as I am concerned Liardon’s work is slipshod, sloppy scholarship that is totally dishonest.

The unproven claptrap Liardon details and promotes in this book is in my opinion propaganda not history! This work of so-called history appears to be more concerned with promoting false doctrine rather than any real documentation of history. Those profiled in this book are more like a rogue’s gallery rather than God’s best. “God’s Generals”? Balderdash! I don’t think hardly any of these individuals even enlisted as privates!
And that is why in my opinion John uses the term “Satan’s Generals” because that indeed is what they were a bunch of liars who twisted the word of God and unleashed so much hellish doctrines of demons on the church!
And “Satan’s Generals” is the perfect term! I wish I had thought of it when I did my 1-star review on Amazon. Right on John Collins may God richly bless you as you keep doing God’s work!!!!

I appreciate certain things this channel has done because there are certain aspects within the charismatic movement that are not inline with the scripture. However, this is not entirely the case. There is a lot of scriptural support for the continuation of spiritual gifts, including speaking in tongues AND there is good scriptural support in the initial evidence doctrine. If the disciples received the Holy Spirit in the Gospel of John when Jesus “breathed” on them, then why wait in Jerusalem? And why the event in Acts 2? And then we see the event repeated. So there is plenty of basis for Pentecostal theology.
And what I don’t understand is how many baptists (and it’s pretty much baptists and some other reformed groups) will take the scripture so literally! They believe in the scripture so strongly. But when it comes to the book of Acts they completely ignore it.
And we need to be careful, because of these Pentecostals are doing things by the power of God and people are calling that Satanic, couldn’t that be blasphemy of the Holy Spirit? What were the Pharisees saying when Jesus was casting out demons? “By the power of Beelzebub he is casting out demons”. Jesus was very stern with the self righteous religious leaders of his day who would give Satan credit for what God is doing! Let’s not be guilty of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit! God forbid! It’s an unforgivable sin.
And of all the sins that bothered Jesus the most, it was that one. That’s why it was unforgivable. Thats why is was singled out.
Let’s be careful in what we condemn, because God doesn’t look at it favorably.

They arrived at this conclusion because in the book of Acts, every time someone was baptized in the Holy Spirit, they began speaking in tongues. Prior to Parham's school, tongues was a rare but known phenomenon. What Parham did was give tongues a particular theological context that made sense in the existing Holiness framework.

His secretary took it, used it for a time, but never had his circulation. She also called her work Apostolic Faith. Last I heard her group still exists but only has a few churches with a few hundred in membership. No one living, to my knowledge, has any information as to what led to the falling out, but fall out they did.
Yes. Durham preached the "Finished Work of Calvary" in Seymour's church. This essentially removed Pentecostalism from its Weslyan-Holiness roots, and aligned it closer to a Baptist/Keswick understanding. This was an anathema to those who taught three works of Grace, salvation/sanctification/Holy Ghost infilling. Technically he reduced everything to two works of Grace.
His teachings became the fundamental understanding of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World, the Assemblies of God, and the United Pentecostal Church International. Two of these three are Oneness organizations, though there are others.
Baptism in Jesus' Name was the "new issue" as opposed to the "old issue", the Finished Work doctrine. This was primarily a split in the supporters of Durham's view. Additionally the Oneness position was divided by those who believed in salvation at repentance with a later reception of the Holy Ghost, represented by Howard Goss and the Pentecostal Church, Incorporated, and those who believed that repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus, and the infilling of the Holy Ghost were the complete experience of salvation. This was represented by Witherspoon and A.D. Urshan and the Pentecostal Assemblies of Jesus Christ. Eventually, the position of the PAJC became the position of most Oneness Pentecostals as most of the others reverted to Trinitarian Charismaticism or denominationalism. Some just went Charismatic, and without research you would not k ow they were supposed to be Oneness, such as T.D. Jakes.

He was laughed at, because he was a negro. He was made fun of, but *he brought a message for that age* . Just a little body, a fellow could hardly sign his own name, but the Lord had revealed to him that this was the age for the restoration of those gifts, and they come.

Wow! This is really interesting. I didn't know that occultic practices were going on at Azusa Street! I'm surprised Seymour was able to get anywhere with the rampant racism. They way Seymour's preaching is described, it reminds me of WMB and a lot of message churches. Did anyone notice that at 4:44the newspaper had in big red letters the words. The Park. And KKK, by spelling convincing. Convicting, and converting with Ks. I'm not saying it means anything, but it was pretty surprising to see some of the worst things about the message al, tnose years before in big red letters.

Glossolalia what these people claim to be the 'speaking in tongues' sounds similar to 'Enochian language' which is occultic
Google 'Enochian magic' then check out ' Enochian language'
This is why The Word of God tells us there should always be an interpreter when people spoke in other languages. And not more than 2 or 3 at a time.

Plus why don't we ask ourselves why God would author Chaos for His children.
People forget that the tongues the disciples spoke in acts 2 were languages from other countries.Jewish pilgrims had come to Jerusalem from these countries, and the disciples filled with the spirit, manifested this gift by testifying about Jesus Christ to these jews from other nations in their various languages. Thus converting them so that when they returned to their nations they were able to further testify about their experience & Christ Jesus.
      We should always remember
that it the fruits of the Spirit that will be harvested, not the gifts.
Evidence of one being spirit filled is not gifts but fruits. It is fruits that are harvested.
      Fruits - Gal 5:22-23
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.)
And we can only bear fruits if we remain in Him. We abide in Him by abiding in His Word. Asking Him for more understanding as we study it.
      (John 6:63
The Spirit gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The WORDS I have spoken to you are SPIRIT and they are LIFE.)
I pray we never forget Jesus said many will be deceived by signs&miracles from false prophets, the only way to discern truth from error is by clinging to the Word and trusting only Jesus, depending on Him for everything esp. In teaching us the knowledge of God& in helping us understand and obey God's Word.

The Vernal Equinox of 2030, marks the beginning of the 3rd, 1000-year Days of Heaven since Jesus taught us, All men are brothers, love one another, and be perfect -- and was then crucified in 30 AD. 2 Peter 3: 8 Matthew 5: 44-48. It brings the fulfilment of the resurrection, as Jesus, Himself explains -- John 16: 7-15 -- when the Spirit of Truth -- not Jesus in the flesh -- comes to all who will receive him . . . and final judgement for the devil and dragon. Daniel 7: 9-14 Revelation 12: 12-13.
We have been told SOONER. 09/23/26 is exactly 3.5 years sooner. It's the autumn equinox of the US' and the illuminati's 250th year (1776-2026). 10/12/26 is 42 new moons sooner. There will be an Epochal Eclipse April 8, 2024, when more shall be revealed to those with eyes and ears. The rest will see only an eclipse. Matthew 16: 4 Jonah 3: 5-8, Jonah 4: 11.

@@Rivingtons-go3vg The Urantia Book dates Jesus' resurrection -- the morning the stone was found already rolled away -- as April 9th 30 AD. So, I use that year. It's not proof -- I know. His birth is dated as August 21st, 7 BC.
There will be an Epochal eclipse April 8th 2024, when more shall be revealed to those with eyes and ears. The rest will see only an eclipse. By the way, it is the 2nd of the great American eclipses. The first was August 21st, 2017.
      Matthew 16: 4 Jonah 3: 5, 8 Jonah 4: 11

Verily, The Rapture is a Hoax. Pentecostalism is a Bad Tree of Christianity, with roots in the KKK. All their Prophets are false. All their faith-healers are frauds.
