Well, a refurbed Fatboy could cost north of $200 depending on the finish and original purchase price. My new Fatguy shod last generations and shaves absolutely identical to my Fatboy. My new Fatguy is worth every penny imho. It really is a quality razor and a solid replica of the Fatboy.
I just took delivery of my Fat Guy. The quality, fit and finish is excellent. I did not observe any of the issues and concerns highlighted in your review. The Fat Guy provided an excellent shave just like my Fatboy. Well done Global Shave Club!
Interesting comment considering he adjusted the intensity of the razor without opening the door to relieve tension. Not a fan of him but I did order this razor like 6 months ago so here I am 🤷♂️
I was recently gifted a family member’s 61 Fatboy. It’s still in great condition and after cleaning it up I decided to give wet shaving a try for the first time. I’ve got a lot to learn yet, but I’m enjoying it so far!
Matt, I just want to say, that I really appreciate an 'honest' product review. It seems most of the other shaving reviewers have never met a product that they didn't like. So it's refreshing to find one that will point out the not-so-good points, as well as the good. That make it a lot easy for us consumers to make a intelligent choice. Keep up the good work.
I couldn't agree more I have actually quit watching many channels because these guys are so "bought" that it's not even funny. I see all their "free gear" and stuff that they get and I'm like you are so biased. Just a bunch of lap dogs.

I hope the team that produces the Fat Guy has listened carefully to Matt and made some necessary changes to the product.

Matt, thank you for the review. I bought one during the fundraising campaign for $89, and I'm looking forward to it. I didn't have a Fatboy at the time, but bought one while waiting for the Fatguy's delivery. What captured my attention was the homage being paid to this iconic wet-shaving tech. So glad I didn’t get one I was really close too. I still think it’s really cool and great for our hobby
I am allergic to nickel, but have not had any issues with shaving using vintage razors plated in nickel. In my instance at least, you are correct in that I only have a reaction if I’m wearing a watch or necklace with nickel in it (looks like chicken pox and itches as such, but localized to the area of contact). So I have not let that affect my decisions when it comes to razors, though I did choose to try this fatguy in the gold finish.
I haven’t got a Fat boy razor but I would like to get a “made to order” Gillette Slim adjustable one day. I just can’t see the point in buying a replica when you can still buy the real deal. Thanks for showing us the comparison between these two razors
That's exactly the same thought that crossed my mind. I have a few made to orders from the Emporium and love them all. I highly recommend them. If I had to choose between the two I'd take a made to order personally. I also know that Razor Emporium stands by their products.
Fatboy prices are rising. I've seen refurbed Fatboys in rhodium fetching well above $200. I really enjoy my new Fatguy razor, shaves identical to my Fatboy.
I appreciate that you go into such detail. I'm still kind of new to wet shaving. It's helps me a lot because I don't want to have to be constantly doing maintenance on a razor. Especially when it comes to rust etc.
I just received my fat guy and I agree with your review. It is more aggressive than the 195, and the build quality is sub par for what they advertise. It feels cheap in the hand. For $129 you are better off getting a used vintage 195 in really good condition.
Hi Matt, I really appreciate your review. You have the second production model ever. Our actual newer production is much better. We will probably keep the price at where it is right now. We were not trying to fool anyone into believing it is the original. I am a Gillette Fatboy as well. I thought it was a fair review and yes, we are planning a model that is stainless. We are also making Fatguy available to resellers in both chrome and gold.
I inherited a Fatboy from my grandfather when he passed in the early 1990's. I have recently rediscovered it and started using it and I simply love it! I would not buy a replica with so many originals out on the market. Why not opt for the original rather than a decent knockoff? Thanks for your insightful reviews!
I'm honestly not even sure why everyone loves the $1.95 Fatboy so much. I own a mint condition one and it's nice to shave with but by far not the best. The slim adjustable is better imo or even just the regular flare tip.
I agree 100%. I've got a slim and a superspeed flare tip and I get a better shave with either of those than I do the fat boy. I think it's because of the thinner head.
My 1960 birth year Fatboy doesn't even come close to my 34C. In fact no Gillette razor I own comes close. Maybe my 30's New LC comes a little close but no way. All of my modern de razors shave better than a Fatboy or any twist to open Gillette. Gillette twist to open was their first "gimmick" (WOW, isn't that cool and modern, LMFAO) in a long line of gimmicks to come. Find me 1 adjustable Gillette that shaves as good as my progress, I honestly think this YMMV is claimed by the brainwashed. I don't get it either.
Matt, you are biased, but regarding shaving gear, new and old, I am biased too. The things you've mentioned, are details that every one of us would see and say out loud, plus you haven't mentioned the difference in weight. Long story short : If we put how the original fatboy stood the test of time, their history and ultimately their value in the future, if someone is not happy with the way it shaves and wants to sell it, the new fat guy fails short in my eyes. If the fat guy was made from stainless steel, then it would be a razor that I would consider buying.
Thank you for the comparison. The Fat Boy is not the best razor in the world but it is probably the most desired razor in the world... I’m looking to buy one in good shape.
I was surprised to see you adjust the razor (both old and new) without opening the doors to release the tension. I thought from your other videos you had mentioned that it was necessary to prevent damage. Maybe I’m remembering wrong.
I pre-ordered one and at this point, I’ve seen next to no communications, Emails and DM’s on Instagram go un viewed. A few razors have popped up for review but I’m starting to think of this as a Vapor-Boy razor. I’ll be surprised if it ever shows up.
I ran into same problem! Global Shave Club is a terrible company! Horrible customer service! They are nothing but a crooked company! I ordered both and received neither! They got me for over $200!! I will NEVER purchase from them again!!!
I have a fat boy that probably needs a tune up. They made so many of them that you can buy a decent one and get it set up by you and it’s great. You can buy an almost nos one too. I think it’s good these fat guy razors are out there for those that want new or don’t want to go through the hassle of vintage.
Excellent review - hope they make some fixes you describes - especially the door and the un plated piece that is hard to reach. These are fatal. Wish i hadn't ordered one several months ago. I typically use a Fatboy or a slim and they are great - have several of each
Really nice comparison. Just wondering if you have ever tried a handtied badger knot such as declaration grooming? Would love to see you do a review on something like this. There are quite a few luxury handtied knots available
Thanks for the honest review. I think Global Shave Club has been soliciting reviews from a lot of people. I'd be very upset if I paid for one and the doors didn't close tightly. If that's the sample they provided, what does that say about their quality control?
And this is the new standard for a razor review! yes, we know you are biased, but also know your way around an adjustable. All your arguments were properly supported, and if someone watches this video will not have any surprises when they get the razor. However to quote the big bang theory: "in a world that already includes the Big Boy, why would I settle for something like a Big Boy."
Again newly impressed by your evident passion and knowhow regarding razors - vintage or otherwise. It also further upholds your efforts in the Rex project. Congrats!
Matt, everything you have said is watertight and even your bias is transparent. Thank you. No company today can profit from reproducing the quality of the things produced yesteryear. Less people encouraged higher standards of less required quota. To see a attempt at that quality, even a 7/10, from an aspiring company startup, is worthy of great respect. And, that machinery is expensive, so the starting price tag of $150 is understandable. That figure may even become more attractive in the near future as inflation continues to reflect heavily on the current vintage market.
I don't think you're being too critical at all... especially given the price. At well over $100 I think some people need a little reality check on that razor's quality and value. I would be very interested to see you take one apart and compare the inside components.
Thank you for the honest review. Other reviews on this razor praise it but don't mention the negatives. Most customers are still waiting for their razor to be shipped after months of shady excuses from this company. I'll stick with my Fatboy that I found for $10
Just picked up a soap from you and i really like it great foaming lather and a really nice slickness to it as well even after a face rinse i still feel the slickness from the soap . I don't get this feeling from you know The PPA Alien NUT Guy Your soaps are much better in my Humble opinion. Keep em Coming Matt .👍
Very nice review. Glad to see someone calling like it is. We are in the OG club, but it is nice to see there is still a DE world and people are making things again.
Will Razor Emporium do service, repair and maintenance of the new Fatguy? As someone who looks after a decent sized collection of vintage Gillette razors, I find their manufacturing legacy fascinating. Big kudos to GSC for bringing back a classic. I have a chrome one ordered for regular duty and gold one ordered for collection. Thank you again for the review.
Great video. Thankyou for your honest opinion. I have a Fatguy its way to me. I was already unsure if I had made the right choice buying one. Will scrutinise it when it arrives.
Matt, I received my FatGuy last week. I've shaved with it 3 times and so far the shaves have been smooth, comfortable, and nick-free from setting 5 to setting 1. I have never used the original FatBoy so I can't compare them. But I can say that the issues you brought up with the FatGuy you reviewed were not apparent with mine. First, the razor does not wobble when I stand it up on the counter. Second, the TTO doors are flush and do not move. And third, to my naked eye, the blade alignment and gap look as good as any other razor I own. Even my Rex Ambassador. So, I'm going to surmise that the razor you reviewed definitely came from one of the earlier production runs. From a quality and build perspective, I will agree that not too many safety razors will ever match up with my Ambassador. But I will say that I have enjoyed my FatGuy shaves and am happy to have it in my collection.
@@TheDobbermn Are you located in North America? I live in Georgia which is an 18-hour drive from GSCI, Canada. And it still took 16 days from the date a mailing label was created until delivery. Slow doesn't adequately describe their "free" shipping.
@@BartBuzz I'm in Minnesota so I should be closer :) I ordered something from Italian Barber which is also in canada on Weds., it shipped on Friday and is slated to be delivered on Thurs.
I have just taken delivery of my Fatguy, and while I have had a smooth shave from it, and it doesn’t wobble when standing up, it definitely does have issues with the alignment of the TTO doors. They don’t close cleanly and I have to push them fully closed. Even then, there is still a gap. I have several other Gillette adjustables that don’t have this at all. The only time I ever saw doors not closing fully before was on one of those $1 safety razors from Dollar Tree. It is an okay razor, and I’ll use it, but it’s not on a par with Gillette quality, and not worth the hefty price for what it is.
Nicely done Matt, I feel like you were fair. And now I'd like to buy one just to compare the two myself. Not that I don't trust your assessment but just to find out for myself.
Ive learned so much from u, im waiting on my henson de and just to get me buy till it shows up i had to get the great van der hagen, & with ur tips and preps i got a great shave, cant wait for a good de, i have a merkur futur in the cart on ur online store ima buy this wk!!!
This a a great comparison video, Matt. I agree with your assertion regarding nickel allergies, and razors which are nickel plated. I also believe that one's pre shave, shaving soap/cream, and water act as a sort of buffer between one's skin and the razor itself. I have the "OG" Gillette Fatboy, (F2,1960), and I love it, like I love my mama.
The concern about the piece being brass, brass is a self-lubricating metal and can be great for moving parts that constantly rub. However, I don't have that razor so I can't speak to how much exposure to rubbing that specific piece gets. And like you said, they're fairly prone to corrosion if not in constant use and lubricating themselves.
A fair and measured review. I agree that it’s a better investment to purchase an original Fatboy and give it some TLC rather than opt for the copy. It just makes more sense.
Great video Matt, very interesting. Am waiting for mine to arrive from Global, as you stated you can pick up the Ebay original which I have and it is my favourite razor. Greetings from Gibraltar
At that price, they need to address all the issues you mentioned. Ps. I have a nickel allergy and you are correct, old watches and jewelry effect me. Not my razors.
Matt💈💈👍👍 Right on bro, thanks for the true review. First for me is the source of materials, this "Fatguy" is no in house made razor. Too many suppliers of parts means tolerances will not be as precise as the original. I have several original Gillette 1.95 "Fatboys" including one NIB, never used. 60+ years later they still look and work like new. Enjoy!
The first thing I noticed on my FatGuy was the chrome was bubbling on one of the barn doors on the inside and also on parts of the center bar under the barn doors. On top of that, I had difficulty turning the razor to open it. I had to apply a lot of oil to the razor and work it open and close it for several hours but that did not totally solve the problem. I wrote to Global shave and I was told to use it for 2 months to see if the screw mechanism would work itself out. That did not sit well with me so I told Global shave that I wanted to return it. Sheldon then asked me to give it a second chance if he would send me a new razor. Several weeks ago, I wrote to him and asked him if he had sent the razor because after waiting for an extended period of time I never got the razor. He wrote back and told me that it had been sent....Well, I still have not gotten the razor..I asked my viewers what I should do...take the new razor or the money. Most of my viewers said to take the money and run...lol. I went against them and told Global that I would give it a second chance and that WAS A BIG MISTAKE. Shame on me. I am extremely disappointed, not only with the product but more so with their customer support. I should have bought one off of ebay and had it refinished. I learned my lesson.
Nice review and most informative. All due respect to GSC I don't understand why this FG razor exists. As you pointed out, its easy to get a FB in great condition for about the same price. It will be better constructed, and since its a vintage razor it will have an interesting unique provenance as well.
Well done Matt!!! That was a fantastic review. The fat boy is one of those razors that I am still missing in my humble collection. I haven't been interested at all in the fat guy replica for a couple of simple reasons. First reason is obvious I would much rather have an original Gillette Fatboy instead of a modern made copy. And second is that chrome finish. I am a huge fan of the original factory nickel look and personally feel that chrome plating just looks kind of cheap. Anywho, great video Matt and as always... Shave on my brother!!!
Matt I this video helped me a lot in my decision. I wanted to buy the fat guy to use it more frequent and protect bit my 1960 genuine Fatboy. As I am from Germany there are not many options for service or restoration. Finally I refrain from buying one continuing using my original - if needed I will reach out to Razor Emporium what can be the best option for my old one - but hopefully he will last until I hand it over to my son one day . He ist just 16 and started the traditional wet shaving with Gillettes King C razor + King R Emporium soap which he loves most from my entire collection. Thanks again .
Very thorough and thoughtful review. While I applaud the efforts to create a tribute or a reproduction of a classic such as the Fat Boy, at the end of the day, Gillette towers over this Fat Guy. "Accept no imitations" applies. As pointed out by Matt, easily less than $100, you can obtain the Real McCoy, with unmatched engineering and quality control. Create a stainless steel version, with tighter QC, and I'm aboard for it, and that would be a true mark of distinction, worthy of considering for purchase.
Matt, can you speak to adjusting the dial with the barn doors open/closed. Does it make any difference if they are open/closed and does it harm the razor in any way if you adjust with doors closed? Maybe you already have and I have missed it. If so, can someone please point me in that direction.
@@buddhamack1491 thanks! Either that or could send in like he mentioned. Gotta do more research on which vintage Gillette i think would be best for me. Came across a nice 1966 slim adjustable. But not sure how much lighter it is than the fatboy. Gotta research more when i get the time

@@Orr_s Yeah the super speed flare tip. I can't say you'd love it as much as I do as everyone is different, at least with an adjustable you can tune it. If you don't have very course hair then the regular super speed should be nice but a lot of people like the red tip super speed. The red tip shaves nice but I end up with in grown hairs on my neck if I use mine. With a nice blade you like the slim and the regular super speed, to me at least, are so smooth.
Thank you for a really careful and considered comparison. I have ordered a fatguy because although as you say you can find some good fatboy offers on ebay all are rather expensive for the UK market. However having now waited 8 months for my order am losing patience with this company. If I even get the razor I'll never deal with them again. Very poor customer service!
Thanks Matt. A seriously detailed and knowledgabe review. I've ordered a Fatguy and all I can say is I hope the doors close better than on yours! Stay safe .
I have a nickel sensitivity so I can’t wear jewelry with it, but I’ve never had a problem with a vintage razor, I’m sure it’s because it’s not sitting on skin for a prolonged period

Nice honest review. There must be a reason Matt never ventured into making another $1.95, Gillette should do that.. He took whatever he thought about the $1.95 and everything he learned taking them apart and all off that amalgamated into the Rex Ambassador. That is my thoughts. Please find a distributor for Europe. Can not fork the cash for shipping and import tax. And, pretty please, make another lather be shaving, I miss 'm. All the best from the Netherlands.
My Dad uncles and Grandad all used a British made De Gillette Rockets or similar all their lives, they never needed an adjustable razor, in fact, I cannot remember that many adjustable for sale here in the UK. The first adjustable with a dial was a Merkur, wasn't it? Gillette was and still are good at creating a gimmick to sell more of their products, they must hate the resurgence of a simpler way of shaving. Then maybe it is the utilitarian mindset of previous generations here in the UK in that if it isn't broke don't fix it and rampant consumerism, unlike America was much slower arriving here. Anyway getting back to the aforementioned Gillette Rocket I still have my late uncle's example and it still functions well, as for stamping shops there probably aren't as many available, whilst after the second war both the USA and the UK had numerous such tooling and presses from the war production of arms, ordnance and also a skilled workforce. I have an adjustable ie a Merkur Progress, I've also tried a future and a Gillette Slim Jim, but my adjustable? well, I find I just set it at 3 and that's where it stays. I did toy with the idea of buying a Rex ambassador but I'm not that sold on adjustable de-razors due to growing up watching my Dad and uncles etc, with a fixed gap razor, so like them I don't see the point. I have recently bought a Rex Envoy and it suits all my shaving needs, so I'll be sticking with that and I'll hand both my Gillette Rocket and Rex Envoy on to further generations because such is the quality of both razors, they will outlive me.
Fatboy... There Is No Substitute... Thanks Matt! I won a 1959 FB in a raffle.. It will be coming to you shortly for revamp. Have a great and safe holiday!
Matt, The quality and craftsmanship of an original vintage Gillette "Fatboy" and Slim Adjustable is going to be impossible to beat. The cost to exactly reproduce these Gillette solid brass safety razors would be exorbitant. I am surprised at the price of your Rex Ambassador. When I look at the quality and finish of your Rex adjustable razor, I was pleasantly surprised by the cost. Does that mean I should buy a Rex Ambassador??
Unfortunately I ordered a Fatguy in August and have sent 3 emails to inquire about when it might ship and have never heard a word back. I believe my best bet would be to buy an original Fatboy and send it to you. Thanks so much for your input.
I find it easier just to get a made to order from Razor Emporium. I've bought several now and I get a great Razor from a company that stands behind it.
Thats nothing, I ordered mine in March and still nothing. They don't reply to emails and brush off any questions regarding when the razor will arrive. I'm still optimistic that I'll get it at some point, but if I haven't recieved by the new year will seek a refund via my credit card company. I would not have ordered this had I known id still be waiting 8 months and still no razor. Very, very poor!!
Does razor emporium fix buttery safety razor if it’s broken like the doors fall off because a piece that holds it broke because I brought the fat guy razor doors broke well one of them and just need on tiny fix will they fix that I wonder.
*It’s a nice piece for sure but the build quality is suspect and being partly made overseas who knows the tolerances* But… I’m glad that somebody actual took the time to replicate a Fatboy. However, I don’t like the chrome finish, even before this video I watched kensurfs and it didn’t appeal to me but YMMV. *But hopefully they keep at it and maybe improve on the build quality because people that buy these want them to last and have the tightest tolerances*…. I’m glad they took a shot though. It’s about time to inspire someone to build an exact quality replica… even if it means the razor will be pricey, us wet shavers are willing to pay for quality. If the price goes down and they offer a different finish I might try it. But, just got my Fatboy and it needs a slight blade gap adjustment but I can still shave with it and the quality I’m sure isn’t better than the original. I’m gonna send it in and have it tip top. Again, I like the razor and the fact they took the shot at a vintage Gillette makes me happy … maybe try another model? *Aristocrat* hint hint… ehh emm rhodium…
Thanks for the review, I honestly was going to get a ‘fat guy’ but now I think I’ll invest in a real fat boy. Can’t go wrong with wanting the highest quality razor.
wait a sec thought you needed to open the butterfly on fat boy before changing setting then close turning completely till locked in place.Trying to get a fatboy used on ebay for less than 75 bucks have proven quite difficult lately on ebay but I got mine for 54 buck, however, one side blade gap is bend--so it needs fixed;so either way I'll be paying over 100 bucks for one.
I have an original FatBoy. It was my dads. I remember asking him if I can use it. I guess technically he never gave it to me. I just took it over. Funny thing is I've grown a beard since the beginning of the year because my GF likes it.
Spot on! Why would anyone buy a replica for more $ than the real deal? This thing should be priced at under 40 bucks.

But I do give them credit for being the first ones to actually make a reproduction. I still think it’s really cool and great for our hobby
Matt, you are like an encyclopedia, a pleasure to listen to. I enjoy these videos, with tidbits of history and science, so much. Keep it up!
But otherwise, thank you for the review; I also really love the original Fatboy (currently have 6 or 7, definitely don’t plan on getting more 😅)
I don't think I knew that Ross about you! You'll have to send me a message about the fat guy
I bought 2 genuine fatboys this week on Ebay. One for 50 and one for 60. A more expensive knock off with lower quality doesn't make sense.
The only ones I’ve seen on eBay that are that price, are usually pitted and rusted.
I had seen the Fatguy. A replica but not the OG. Great video. I need a Fatboy now.
Great to hear thanks for the feedback and work to make this!
than lower the price or revamp them;
50 euros is still too much for this copycat
I inherited a Fatboy from my grandfather when he passed in the early 1990's. I have recently rediscovered it and started using it and I simply love it! I would not buy a replica with so many originals out on the market. Why not opt for the original rather than a decent knockoff? Thanks for your insightful reviews!
Vintage all the way. Thanks for the comprehensive review Matt P. Have a great weekend.
@@manfrommeeteetse3880 right on. I own a 59 and 60 Fatboy and it doesn't come close to my 34C.
because ymmv!
I always liked the music yall used, but this smooth jazz R&B is making me love the videos even more.
Long time fan.
Nice review. Once I saw the Fatguy wobble I figured the quality wasn't as good as the Fatboy.
Glad I saw the comparison to knock me off the fence!
It can be done either way. Cracking the doors is certainly easier and probably better long term.
Kudos for an honest evaluation!
I pre-ordered one and at this point, I’ve seen next to no communications, Emails and DM’s on Instagram go un viewed. A few razors have popped up for review but I’m starting to think of this as a Vapor-Boy razor. I’ll be surprised if it ever shows up.
That’s sad...
I typically use a Fatboy or a slim and they are great - have several of each
This is the review that I needed to watch. Thanks so much. I was finally able to make up my mind on this purchase.
Thanks for the honest review, Matt.
Good review. Appreciate the critique from the viewpoint of an engineer/restorer.
Those old gillettes shave well. I have one in bad shape and it still shaves nice.
Excellent work thank you now to find an original
Very nice review. Glad to see someone calling like it is. We are in the OG club, but it is nice to see there is still a DE world and people are making things again.
Will Razor Emporium do service, repair and maintenance of the new Fatguy? As someone who looks after a decent sized collection of vintage Gillette razors, I find their manufacturing legacy fascinating. Big kudos to GSC for bringing back a classic. I have a chrome one ordered for regular duty and gold one ordered for collection. Thank you again for the review.
Tune up yes. Revamp likely no. I hate stripping chrome and it is usually worse for the wear.
Well done,I've ordered one of these and I'll not be amused if the doors on it aren't tight.keep up the great work and once again an honest review
Hope you didn't order a gold one mate. If you did, you won't likely receive it apparently.
@@mikewaters6980 no mate it landed the otherday I'll have a shave with it later
Great video. Thankyou for your honest opinion. I have a Fatguy its way to me. I was already unsure if I had made the right choice buying one. Will scrutinise it when it arrives.
Let us know!
@@RazorEmporium I certainly will. 👍
At least you got yours. Mine has been "On it's way to USPS" since Nov 11th. So, 19 days since it "shipped" and I still don't have it.
@@SOPWITH98, you definitely have a valid reason for contacting GSCI. I'll be interested to know if Sheldon stands behind the warranty.
That is awesome!
Great Job Matt! Old school is best school!!
Great review and side by side. Good vid Matt! 😁👌🏼💈
A fair and measured review. I agree that it’s a better investment to purchase an original Fatboy and give it some TLC rather than opt for the copy. It just makes more sense.
Brilliant detailed review as expected from your good self.
Do you guys disassemble the adjustables with your tune up?
Yes every time every model.
Great review Matt 👍
It is easier on the mechanics long run to crack the doors while adjusting. But it will work either way.
Hi Matt. Will Razor Emporium be doing service and refurb work on the Fat Guy?
No thank you. Too much trouble to strip chrome.
Do you have any vids on how you would go about adjusting the blade gap on a razor like this? Awesome video
Matt has videos on servicing and lightly restoring vintage Gillette razors. Look hard enough and you'll find them, the'd be a few years old by now.
@@buddhamack1491 thanks! Either that or could send in like he mentioned. Gotta do more research on which vintage Gillette i think would be best for me. Came across a nice 1966 slim adjustable. But not sure how much lighter it is than the fatboy. Gotta research more when i get the time
@@Orr_s Slim adjustable is by far my fav over a fatboy. Doesn't feel lighter to me but shaves better imo. The slims are climbing in value so I'd snap it up. Yeah can send them in, if you're USA based then you won't have to deal with the expensive international postage that makes it not worth it to get it serviced by Matt's company. Regular flare tip is also one of my fav's. Can usually find them pretty cheap but they have gone up in price in the last year.
@@buddhamack1491 nicee. Yeah i just grabbed it. Its in very nice condition as well and the price was more than fair. It was a 1966 L2 code. Is the super speed flair tip the one you are referring too, or there is a regular flair tip also? There is a super speed flair tip from 1957 from that same seller as well. Thanks!
I have seen Weishi razors company razors, and I believe that they could make an exact, precise copy of any of the gillette razors if they wanted to.
I figure for that price, you can just buy a Merkur razor.
Thanks Matt. A seriously detailed and knowledgabe review. I've ordered a Fatguy and all I can say is I hope the doors close better than on yours! Stay safe .
Waiting for the Rex TTO !
I have a nickel sensitivity so I can’t wear jewelry with it, but I’ve never had a problem with a vintage razor, I’m sure it’s because it’s not sitting on skin for a prolonged period
Congratulations! You are the winner of the weekly T-shirt giveaway contest! Please Contact me at Help@razorempiorium.com with your shipping address and your T-shirt Size. I will ship it out right away! Thank you for your support! - Razor Emporium Team
Thanks Matt!
If I didn't have 4 Fatboys already, I would get one of these Fat Guys. It's quite a good looking reproduction.
If I had one Fatboy I wouldn't even consider a reproduction!!
A great comparison show-off 👍🏼.
Thanks for doing this review......good stuff.
Executive shaving sells our products. Also gentlemans groom room. Both in uk.
I prefer my 1975 Super 109 for an adjustable razor. I like it better than the Fat Boy or Slim.
Matt,
The quality and craftsmanship of an original vintage Gillette "Fatboy" and Slim Adjustable is going to be impossible to beat.
Sure :)
I was going to send them $7.50 for their cheap 3 piece razor to try. After reading the comments here about this company I'll forget it it.
Never tried a Fatguy. l'm enjoying my late Dad's E-3 Fatboy a lot. Wouldn't mind getting the newer version to see what the fuss is aboot, eh?
Save your money you are in possession of the real mccoy.
Unfortunately I ordered a Fatguy in August and have sent 3 emails to inquire about when it might ship and have never heard a word back. I believe my best bet would be to buy an original Fatboy and send it to you. Thanks so much for your input.
I ordered in May. Excuse after excuse. I asked for my money back and they won't respond. Don't do business with this company.
I find it easier just to get a made to order from Razor Emporium. I've bought several now and I get a great Razor from a company that stands behind it.
@@Tobins_throwbacks Yeah. I should have done that. Live and learn :)
@@ThePad549 check their site for update. They have started shipping. I won’t be ordering anything from them in the future.
Great comparison
Well said. Great review Matt. 😁👍
Does razor emporium fix buttery safety razor if it’s broken like the doors fall off because a piece that holds it broke because I brought the fat guy razor doors broke well one of them and just need on tiny fix will they fix that I wonder.
Send us an email with pics help@razoremporium.com
Great comparison. I am biased too and will stick with the original!
Thanks, Matt. Spot on. I'll stick with my 1960's Fatboy.
Nice and honest review! I only have the slim and really like that razor. Maybe someday I’ll get a fatboy.
I have an original FatBoy. It was my dads. I remember asking him if I can use it. I guess technically he never gave it to me. I just took it over. Funny thing is I've grown a beard since the beginning of the year because my GF likes it.
Matt, how can I differentiate between the Fatboy and the Executive Fatboy? Is it the gold finish?
Gold finish and knurl pattern on handle. Fatboy is X shaped and the executive is like the toggle and squared
Great video
