  • Bosch Athlet Charging fix which turns out to be fairly simple. You will need to see my other video • Bosch Athlet Vacuum Cl... so you know how to split the cleaner. Worth following all the way through and I'll answer any questions you have.

    Thanks so much for doing this video... you have just saved me buying a new vacuum cleaner! Took it apart and noticed the black wire from the charge point had come loose inside... fixed this but still wouldn’t charge... I hadn’t noticed the little black unit inside had been pushed inwards by the charge cable (from outside). Problem was exactly as per your video. Very grateful to you

    Thanks, that was exactly what was wrong with mine. I put a self tapper in the bottom hole and it just about grips the case plastic, if it comes loose I'll glue it together.

    I was just about to bust open mine when I looked over and saw it has started charging, so I think what happened was that after running it for some time, it overheated, and when plugging it in overheated, it will act just like when you have the problem you show here. So leave it to cool down for a while and try again before trying to fix it.

    • @regreenhalgh

      I am hoping this is my problem too. It was fully charged without issue. I have just given the whole house a mega-vacuum to the point where the vacuum turned itself off. I put it on to charge, but no blue light... however, it does appear to be making electrical contact because when plugged in, it will not allow me to turn the vacuum cleaner on.
      Edit: what I indicated above was the problem. I would leave it for 30 mins or so to cool down before dismantling it if you get the "no charging light" issue.

      From memory that has a slot at the bottom of it so you can start to remove it feom that point.

    I have a similar problem, my athlet is charging, the batteries are holding the charge but when I switch the athlet on the battery indicator is showing the battery as dead. I am beginning to think there is something wrong with the pcb. Any help will be appreciated.

    • @fiveminuteman
      @fiveminuteman  4 роки тому +1

      Hmm sounds like the battery pack is failing or at least a few 18650 cells are. Check if you have any warranty left before ripping it apart. Donor Athlets can be had on Ebay cheap so that would give you the charge controller and also a battery set. They seem to be able to handle 18650 cells being replaced although be careful as some Battery Management Systems Bosch use will detect a failing pack and render the BMS useless to prevent someone re-celling the pack.

      @@fiveminuteman thanks, where is the charge controller located? I've got the 36v version and have the full 36v when I check with a multimeter, the charger is fine to when checked. But when I switch it on it flashes a single led to show the battery is dead. Do you have any advice what to check/replace next?

    • @KeefyH44
      @KeefyH44 4 роки тому

      @@omaark6982 Checking with a multimeter doesnt tell the state of the battery on load. When there is no load, even a dead battery can show full voltage. Not always, but often enough so that it is misleading and tells you nothing unless the circuit is drawing full current.

    Thank you very much for sharing your knowledge with those of us who do not know. I would like to know where I could buy (internet) the control module for an athlet 32.4 or a 25.2 like the one you have changed, only the card, I do not need the battery because I already have done the assembly with new ones and the power reaches the card well but later, this card does not load (bsh facelift rev.3 9c_30Q). Thank you very much for your time and delighted to hear from you.(1:44)

    Hello Sir,
    I have that very same apparatus. After it was falling during charging, the jack-connection broke. I found an exact similar jack and soldered it onto the wire. However, I did not see, that I switched polarity. I left it to charge overnight, but in the morning, I noticed that the blue lights did, not come on, and it wasn’t charging at all. I have dismantled the machine and measured the power and it seems ok from out of the charger. Then, what may be the problem? What may have gone wrong as a result of the switched polarity?

    • @fiveminuteman
      @fiveminuteman  2 роки тому

      Not sure if reversing the polarity has taken out the bms of the Athlet. I have never had to replace the charging jack on mine. Browse ebay for spares and repairs Athlets. Seem to be a few coming up on Market place as well.

    I have had a Bosch Athlet 25.2V for three years and all was fine until the last time that it was used, I noticed that the charge was low then when I plugged in the charger, the charge lights didnt come on. I live in assisted housing and recently I've been allowing the carers to vacuum so I don't know what might have been done while I was busy doing other things. The charge socket appears sturdy and solid, I've checked both fuses so there is little else I can do. I was brought up to fix things to component level, originally valve TVs and Audio, then as modern circuits came into being, Transistor audio equipment, Then again when ICs were born, everything and anything. Computers however and modern equipment doesn't lend itself to fault finding to component level so I'm pretty much at a loss what to do next. Any suggestions? The battery is running fine, it's just that when it's gone, I cannot charge it.

    • @fiveminuteman
      @fiveminuteman  4 роки тому +1

      That sounds like the charging port has come lose like in this video, the charger is faulty or the battery management/charging circuit has gone faulty. Money is on the charge port come lose like mine did. Try and force the charger in at the wrong angle and the charge port in the cleaner comes lose.
