Great interview Don! Gordon Ward absolutely can fly!!!!! The guy laps most of the field in SRA GP's! When 444 is entered...... your racing for 2nd place!
I love it that people continue to ride into there 50s and 60s. It gives me hope. I’m 43 and still get out now and then. Not as much as I would like to due to working a 3 week on 1 week off schedule.
Two really nice guys.. Really nice to see people in my age group still enjoying the sport.. Myself, soon to be 61 and not having ridden for 11 years.. three times operated on the both knees.. I would love to jump on a bike again, though I probably will not. Doctors told me I would never be able to run again and they were right with something like 8 years, only jogging 2-3 hundred meters before experiencing too much pain to continue. I spent every hour I could in the gym last winter.. Training like I had got a works ride.. There has to be a goal somehow.. it just helps.. Anyhow with the muscles strengthened in the right places I found could jog again and now can run 5-8 kilometers every second day. I bought a virtually new 2008 Honda CRF 450 but never rode it.. and sold it 11 months later.. (just too worried about further injuries) I am just so happy I can actually move again and when running, I’m always planning to ride again ;) I find the video series involving older people, give us oldies hope.. as getting old really is not cool! Thanks for some pleasant viewing.
Holy Fug… I haven’t seen Gordon Ward since like the 4 stroke national days like 25 years ago…. But Gordon…. Why you still wearing your Alice Cooper costume? 😂
The other thing I think of is, every time I take a backfire screen out of a four stroke, I think of Gordon Wards bike backfiring and catching on fire at one of the four stroke nationals. And then I go ahead and take the screen out anyway. 😂
I think you're thinking of Jason Upshaw who did the crazy front flip over the bars at the bottom of the peristyle...but it might have been that same race, or at least the same season where Gordon Ward won a heat race, and the announcer was talking about how young he was and that he still had braces on his teeth! I probably still have it on vhs lol, we watched it so many times back in the day!
Never too young or old to rip respect what a G looking amazing 👍🏼

I had no idea he is only 3 yrs older than myself, watching him in 90’s. Amazing he still looks the same!

I wish tracks were still open around me
I just wish I could afford to participate in this sport

Yep. Didn't he go into the fence on the side of the track?
Am I the only crazy 52 years old wanting to ride all the time on a Yz 125?
