red squirrel 🐿️ noises are the cutest thing thank you for bringing us all joy with your amazing kindness to animals and videos. Your energy is so loving they feel comfortable eating near you and ON you … amazing 🙏🏻
First Annie and now a very cute baby Red! If "Annie" could be a nickname for Anakin (before he became Darth Vader), might this baby Red be "Luke" or maybe "Princess Leia"??
Question for you, Mel G. I'm not surprised that "my" squirrels love peanuts, Sunflower seeds or even apple cores, but at least one of them loves orange rinds! Ever experienced that? Any thoughts / warnings (ie: could the rinds be hazardous to them)?
I just went and asked my rehabber and this is her reply Generally pits and skins on everything is bad so avoid those. But yes oranges are safe for squirrels and they like to eat them, too much can be bad but an occasional treat isn’t bad. Watermelon is good for them too (no seeds) and it keeps them Hydrated.
@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling Wow, thanks for such a speedy answer. I generally eat all the orange that I can, so this squirrel didn't have access to much more than bits of the rind (skin) and will avoid those in the future. I already limit their peanut supply (raw, in the shell, unsalted) -- I think they'd eat those to the exclusion of everything else. One squirrel stares me down with "the evil eye" if I don't put more out, but I can out stubborn her (I think). I just wish she'd quit trying to eat my birdfeeder and my deck's wood - those cannot possibly be good for them. My birds and squirrels have a bird bath full of clean water but rehydration was still my first guess; she's a nursing, mama, grey squirrel!! It's also possible that she likes the apple cores for the natural-sugar energy and vitamins. Babies can be very tiring!! :D Love ya' Mel ... plus your furry / feathered buddies and your website! Please tell your wildlife rehabber MEGA THANKS for me!!
I understand that its part of nature, but it still hurts to lose our little buddies. I have never seen a little red squirrel around my place, just one black squirrel years ago and now only the greys. Hope yours re-populate your area!
