@@thomasmayo2429 this was about Diddy and the blackmail he had on her to destroy her career bcuz she didn’t want to associate with his evil. Many ppl in the crowd are also affected by Diddy and knew exactly what she was singing about.
Facts, facts and more more facts! I watched this when it aired at 9 years old (I'm a golden girl now 😂). Left the most amazing impression on me. This was around the time of 9/11 (maybe a few months after?). I remember even as a little girl the temperature in the country. We were over it. This performance embodied how we felt.. so powerful. As an adult now with some real life experiences the song and this performance is that much more meaningful. I remember my mom (r.i.p 🤍) loved seeing mary perform this song in particular
The audience was in a state of shock and disbelief!!!! Amazing! Not even one of my favorite MJB songs, but that performance gave me chills!!! And I've never seen anyone look so beautiful while having a straight up fit of anger running all over the stage. She must have double lung capacity than the average person and those vocal cords are made of gold!!!
I cried literal tears watching this. You could literally feel the outpouring of emotions as she sang that night. This is what music's about. Letting your audience feel what you're going through. Taking them on a journew whoo
I've been coming back to watch this performance for years.. I watched it live when she first performed it and she'd tears. More than a a decade letter, still shed tears. This is one of the most ELECTRIFYING performances I have EVER seen in my life!
After this performance MJB went on to win more Grammys pretty consistently. She became one of the finest vocalists in R&B world and was sought after collaborator.
Awesome performance. As I recall , this was after the loss of an award. It was 22 years ago, but I will never forget the power she displayed. “Take that”!
She lost way more than one award! She lost in several categories and then they were like go out and perform the song we decided was a loser. She was pissed!
She did an amazing job 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽delivering this song this was minstry, not a performance she broke every chain of bondage! When we declare things over our lives to set us free the devil has got to ,goo! the drummer at 2:07 right after Mary J said "she chose to win!! was filled, and set it off, and Mary J took it on home! Amen!!
Fun fact: MJB felt slighted she didn’t have a Grammy at all in her career so last part wasn’t even in the song. Years prior she lost to Alicia Keys who was a rookie. With NMD she didn’t win anything for that or Family Affair. She felt misunderstood and unappreciated with her music. This was her diss to The Grammys and her statement that she’s here!
Never heard song or artist... had to stop working for a few minutes and hear this one out. Put it all down for this one!!! Absolutely the best performance in Grammy history hands down... that's all I can say. Powerhouse performance... excellence in its highest degree....❤❤❤
Yes lawd!! My girl had some stuff to get off her chest! I think she was finally sick of the industry games & foolishness. When she said "you DEMONS get up out my face"...I knew it right then.
I remember Andre 3000 doing an interview on Hot 97 with Angie martinez the day after this performance. He said she whipped the audience into a frenzy and had people in the crowd in tears
Have y’all seen the backstage footage of Puffy being interviewed and she’s on the monitor behind him and he stops mid-interview and is like “My god Mary…”
I've seen her since.. the devil has had his way with her since this... I don't care what anyone says, that's the truth. Look at what she's turned into in the last few years. Jesus/god is not involved in what she's become.
This performance was horrible mary.was doing to much yelling and screaming 😱 all of that is unnecessary no more.drama is the song but your performance was.not.that good to The back of your throat and from.all that screaming the recording was better then the performance

That wasn’t performing, that was healing. She left her soul on that stage.

To this day [02.06.2024], this video still makes me cry. Incredible!
It's my anthem for many years
Me too, for me it's this one and the live performance on Oprah in 2007 where she performed her song (Take me as I am) . So powerful.
That was the night she exorcized her demons. That was a Deliverance Service.
One of the best Grammy Performances of All-Time.
She got down!!!! She did that!!!!
Amen!
Watching this back and was thinking the EXACT same thing. That was DELVERANCE!
I honestly come back to watch this performance every few years when someone tries to tell me Mary can’t sing. This performance is transcendent
Mary took us to church with this performance
One of the best performances I've ever seen in my life. Gave me chills from beginning to end.
One of the best for sure!
This Performance will.
for me it's up there with Prince - Purple Rain during American Music Awards 1985
Agreed. I come back to watch it every few years. Still moves me every time

Perfection. 50 years from now, this song will still be relevant.

It's been over a DECADE since I've seen this video. I even remember this Grammy night. I get butterflies and chill bumps, still.
The spirit of god was in her. Best live performance at any award show ever.
This was her testimony and releasing her pain & hurt 😢 💔
No performance will ever touch this, Everytime it's the still the same thrill

I can tell you now, there is a performance by Joshua Ledet that's touching this MJB performance. It touches it but doesn't outdo it. 😊
Idk how many times I've watched this performance over the years. Never a dull watch . I believe one of the best performances of her career .
She is phenomenal in this performance.
i agree and is my favorite
An AB-SO-LUTE frickin legend in her own lifetime !!!’
When they say she can’t sing, this is what I come with. I’ve been watching her since 1997 in concert live my girl can sing down.
One of the best Grammy performances, ever!!

She got tired of being overlooked. This was Alicia Keyes year, before that it was Lauryn, before that Erykah Badu.. Mary had enough that night
She lost way more than one award! She lost in several categories and then they were like go out and perform the song we decided was a loser. She was pissed!

She got it all out her system that night. Ppl in the audience was like Damn!!!❤❤❤
This is that soul & gospel!!!!!
The best concert I’ve ever seen in my life was Mary J. Blige for her My Life 25th Anniversary at The Roots Picnic
Same. But it was Radio City Music Hall
I remember watching this and my mind was BLOWN

I felt that live when I watched back in 2002 and even now today 20 years later

Solo Grammy she did win one with Method Man ***
Years prior? This is the 2002 Grammys, this was the first Grammys that Alicia Keys was nominated
The drummer is absolutely LOCKED.
He tore it up!!!!

How coincidental that this aired on CBS and this song samples the theme song of another show on CBS
Yep. Young and the Restless

One of my favourite songs by her and I was lucky enough to see her with my friend Maureen twice in Toronto❤❤❤

@@HopeOutreachMinistriEs1111 I don’t understand what that has to do with the state of marriage these days but ok
Not only was this Mary leaving her soul on the stage, this was also right after Aaliyah died and 9/11. This was incredible.
The moment BONO confirmed her for a duet.
best video love it more each time I watch
