    Good grief how much talent can one family have? Bob's solo was tastefully done and his sound was great. Need to hear more of his stuff.

    Thanks for posting... your Dad is one of the most innovative trumpeters of all time... truly one of a kind. I had the fortune to study with him in the early '90's.

    Herb is such a gracious man. Most guys who have top billing playing trumpet have too much ego to let another guy as talented as Bob Findley shine like that. The playing and the civility impress me.

    Some great trumpet chops on display by Bob Findley!

    Bob was my first trumpet teacher at the Maine Jazz Camp and I can't tell you how much I owe him. Bob, you ROCK! ...bows... Awesome vid.

      @@scottfindley1345 Thank you for sharing Scott. I have seen Bob at a few ITG conferences since then but am so incredibly thankful for his help setting me up as a young kid in central Maine way back when!

    Herb was very generous to share solo space with a trumpet player who was ten times as good as he was.

      Herb is an incredibly kind, humble, and generous soul, who truly 'gives a s***' about art and music, has donated a fair bit of his fortunes to paving the way forward in music education and a true gentleman, Through and through, full stop.

    I saw Herb Alpert and TJB 1976 in Vancouver--the Coney Island tour. My first concert ever. I give Herb credit for hiring a superstar soloist on trumpet in Bob Findley....that took stones. But Herb is a brilliant stylist, no question, so I guess he wasn't too worried....Anyways seeing these two guys nail Zorba live, flawlessly, in their white suits was awesome. Unforgettable performance, that night. I think that 74-76 period might've been Herb's most creative stuff...it all sounds amazing, still.

      Gosh, I can echo pretty much everything you wrote here… except I saw Herb on the Coney Island tour in Chicago! (And it was my second concert ever- the first was seeing Herb at Arlington Park in ‘68.) And the Coney/You Smile era is terribly unheralded. (They discuss it for- what- 50 seconds in the documentary.) My two favorite TJB albums.

    This was not on the Muppets Show. This was actually billed as the 4th Tijuana Brass TV Special and was filmed at Pinewood Studios outside London in 1974. Bob Findley stole the show in this rendition of Panama composed by Julius Wechter in 1968.

    One of the most spectacular trumpet solos was your Dad's solo with the TJB on "Carmine" (for Carmine Caruso, who Bob and Herb studied with). I know this was on one of the TV specials (possibly this one). I'd love to see that posted.

    I have a few chuck findley recordings and this is my first vid of Bob although i heard he played trumpet as well. I must say he might be on the same level as Chuck but boy that chuck's sound is so amazing. I wonder how the two brothers compare up to each other cuz i know they are both killer players.

    • @scottfindley1345
      @scottfindley1345 2 роки тому

      I would say Chuck, my uncle - would be more the in--your-face off the richter style bravado, where Bob (my dear old man) more the smooth and controlled silkey delivery... I still call him 'cool daddy smooth' to this day.. lol. I try not to compare musicianship but they are both incredible players and people. To know them is to love them.

  • @rdangelo

    Brass sections do not get any better than the Academy Awards orchestra. Was it Baptist, Findley, Bergeron and Luening? I know George Graham used to do it before Wayne.
    I once had the honor of playing second to your uncle Chuck. By the end of the concert my sound was breaking up trying to keep up with him on the bows music, when the chart had us alternating playing lead for eight bars. He's ferocious.

    I like that interesting story, nissua.
    Art Farmer didn't recognize Herb Alpert. Hmmm.
    Could it have been professional envy I wonder?

    well, your old man sure kicks butt on this one... ain't nothing "pure cheese" about this track, the problem is that the music of today has spiralled down into the abyss of mediocrity, most music today couldn't touch an effort like this

    • @scottfindley1345
      @scottfindley1345 2 роки тому

      No arguements here. Did I say pure cheese? I should have had my head examined. This shti holds up.

    I'd still say that your father was an artist. Just because Herb wrote the music, doesn't make what your dad did here in this vid anything less than art. He was plainly expressing himself.

      In retrospect, and on learning a little bit more about the expressiveness potential of the trumpet, today's me agrees wholeheartedly. For me this is a masterpeice of a solo.. but I have to say that, Im his kid :)

    isn't that chuck findley. My high school did a concert and he came and played a few songs with us. That was in 2004. He was old, but he hasn't lost any of his skill, or talent on the trumpet. Awsome video.

    Exactly how am I underestimating Herb? What do arranging, producing and owning your own record company have to do with playing trumpet. You missed my point entirely. Herb is a great musician but just not much of a trumpet player. All trumpet players know that. It's not an insult.
