I have a friend up north who builds stunning replicas of Fender classics. I have a couple and they're killers. He sold me this little beauty a short time ago. His friend, Mike Chapman strapped this one together using Callaham parts and a set of Abby Ybarra's CS '69 pickups which are stunners. So, I've dragged out my favourite old Floyd-ish backing track and taken it for a spin.
I wrote a HIWATT DR103 rig for it on the Axe-FX II XL+. If you're an Axe FX user and want my preset, you'll find it at axechange.fract... Rock!

I’ve got a signed set of these pups in my 06’ Classic Player 60’s Strat (Sonic Blue). GREAT pickups! I also have another 06’ CP 60’s strat in sunburst. Unfortunately, the CS69’s were previously removed so it got a set of Custom Shop 54’s. I really dig those pickups as well! Great playing man and Shine On!
I love 69 style pups I have the cheap Fender MIM Classic Player 60s with the Fender 69s what a truly swiss army knife guitar. I play metal to blues to Status Quo.
Who ever gave this a thumbs down I'm guessing their family only just grew opposable thumbs in the last generation .

Man bought a 1969 custom shop Abigail equipped strat I paid way too much money for but truly changed my life for the good. Whatever route you go with her work you can’t go wrong. Amazing expert playing my friend! Salute!!! Thanks a bunch for the killer share 🤠

NIce sounding ! I heard another set of Fender 69 pickups and started checking them out, and wonder how consistant they are since Abby retired. It sounds like there were limited signature runs, that the custom shop still winds them, and she passed the torch to Josefina Campos, but wonder what you get now. They sounded great on that guitar, with your fingers.

I was restringing a guitar whilst this was on so wasn't paying attention to how it was done, just listening. Now I have no idea what a DR103 sounds like, all I can say is that it sounded like a real amp through some real speakers.

This is the best demo I've seen maybe EVER .
The vast majority of "Abby '69s" are *not* wound by Abby and hold no collector value. If you see just her initials, they're just normal 69s produced while she was still working there, she simply signed off on other's work.
I need to put this out there are people are regularly getting scammed for this... paying maybe $400+ for pickups that shouldn't go for more than $200. Real Abby hand wounds can get close to a kilobuck.

What on earth happened at 5:47 when everything just opened up tonally? You had the muff going (very well) until that point and the bender would've needed two clicks

NICE! Literally just took delivery of an American Pro that's got the custom shop 69's. Love the tortoise pickgaurd. May try that on this Surf Greenie I just received. Nice playin mate!
Gilmour loaded pickguard is amazing, I have a couple of those too...cs fat 50 neck...cs 69 middle...and Duncan ssl5 bridge...it's a magical combo.

I have a set of the Fender Custom Shop 69 pickups in my Squier Classic Vibe 60s Stratocaster. Has to be my favorite pickups Fender has out.

Sir I have cs69 with Abby's initials 2011 year. I measured my pickups and they measure 5.1 ohms at the bridge , 5 ohms middle, and 5 ohms neck. What do yours measure? thanks

I have a couple sets of these...there are under wound and very chimy.
I just got 2 of these pickups secondhand. One for the neck and one for the middle. Bridge is an Alnico 2 pickup. A litte hotter than the cs's.Neck is signed by A.Y. 2007. Middle just has date on a sticker 2007. But man these pickups sound sublime. Neck pickup has this haunting background sound. 100% happy with these pickups. Sounded just how I imagined them to be.
I forgot that I was supposed to be listening to the pickups. A great reminder that it isn't about the gear.
You could just about stand in for David Gilmore and nobody would notice!
