This happened in 1982 at Aqueduct as well, a horse broke down as it was crossing the wire in front, and was disqualified. Another horse did the same but it crossed first on a broken leg and was not disqualified; that horse was Emporias.
I'm just saying this I've lived next to a horse farm my whole life he races his horses and he races them in the professional races. Even the horses that take a huge gal and break a born are taken back and cared for they retire they move across the way to his game where his son lives where they live for the rest of there lives his horses never are put down unless the injuries are fatal. Yes some people put them down and yes sometimes horses break legs but the horses are loved and cared for!
COMO QUE NO? NUNCA TOCO EL SUELO ES DESCALIFICADO CUANDO TOCAN EL SUELO POR ESO MISMO AL NUNCA SOLTAR LAS RIENDAS DEL CABALLO Y CAER CUANDO LA CARRERA ESTABA TERMINADA ESO LE DA LA VICTORIA ES JUSTO GANADOR
The horsse should be declared as 1st since both the Jockey and the Horse fell down after haqvind touched the winning post which is evident from the video.
You can clearly see in the slow motion while the horse is rolling that his front left leg is broken and likely the cause of his fall. They run these horses hard that sadly these 'blow out' injuries are common. So even if he did win the race, he lost his life doing so.
For every male or female jockey around the world, next race can be the last one. And like Hall of Fame american jockey Mike Smith said once: "If you don´t win, you´re not paid" Greetings from Venezuela.
The video quality is so bad that it was hard to see the legs. I had it running on 240p. What happened to the HD setting? A lot of the videos are more blurred now. Anyone notice anything like that?
Only when the last tree has died, the last lake has been poisoned, the last fish has been caught, and the last animal has gone extinct will we realize that we cannot eat money. We will realize all our mistakes. Something as simple as horse racing can even turn out to be a mistake.
I'm not bullying disabled children... My own cousin has her own disabilites.. The point is that in GENERAL, humans tend to take advantage of anything. Animals is just one of them. End of conversation.
But aren't racing horses bred seperately to normal horses, as thoroughbreads? So they don't affect any statistics on the horse population? Granted, it's horrible to see horses be put through this, but your statement makes no sense here.
Kath Beck jeez. Did you over react to a simple musing about how man ( in the genetic sense) uses and abuses everything around him ( as in mankind) without respect and for profit. I agree with her. She said NOTHING about denying riding programs for the disabled. That was a real stretch .....
I love racing and have been working in race horse stables doing all things from mucking, grooming,to training but i will never get used to the whip mentality in some countries.. if you watch you will see the horse is in trouble a little wjile before it fell and the leg snapped/broke.. that horse must have run its heart out to manage that.. however i think they should lose the 1st place... kind of weird to see how diffrent the racing is in some other contries compared to norway and sweeden... i feel so bad for the horse and those who loved it but unless it had damage in that leg from prior actdents i dont see how it could have been prevented.. as for wether loosing 1st place or not-thats a tecnacatily and it comes down to regulationd in that contry where the race was held... glad it did not turn out to be a bigger accident with more horses, cause it could so easely have happened.... :/
He never touched the ground and had contact with the Horse under and passed the finish line. He won! Jockey and horse did not separate they were in contact until passed the line and contacting the ground.
+Frank Dioguardi depends on the rules - some may demand that the horse carry its weight the entire length of the race and in that case it would not be counted as a win. Even only if a weight slipped out of the saddle bag the ruling would be the same as if the jockey go thrown off
He won fair & square. His head made it across the finish line before the #2 Horse. There was another incident just like this years ago where the jockey wound up standing on the horses side while it glided, sliding across the finish on a soggy wet track. They won despite the fall.
I love the comments about how the horses are treated like royalty. This industry is running horses whose bones aren't formed yet at full speed and want to talk about how great they treat them. These BABIES shouldn't even be at a full run yet and you all know it, so stop making excuses for your pathetic industry. Sure, you treat them wonderfully and when they don't come home from the track because you killed them, you just use their tack on the next horse. You tell yourself whatever you want so you can sleep at night; I know I wouldn't be able to.
gootubesucks bigtime yes, and once they are done racing at like 4 years old they get sent to the slaughter house, and most race horses are abused. The race horse industry is terrible
Even though he won easily the Belmont and the Preakness, Man o' War never won the Triple Crown because Sam Riddle didn't enter him in the Kentucky Derby because he felt it was too early in the season for a colt to run a race that long. Riddle put the welfare of his horse above the glory of winning the Triple Crown
an industry revolve around animals tend to go that way, these horses are breed to run, just like female chicken breed to be fried chicken, when they can't handle the overgrowth hormone, they become crippled, and can't eat properly therefore can grow into preferable weight, and the owner just make them into ground meat and sold at cheaper price than the chicken which manage into the slaughter house
Annika Block it seems you are willfully ignoring organizations that re-home and re-train retired race horses. Secondly, do show me *real* proof that most race horses are abused.
To those that said the winning horse did not die..Watch whole video not just part of it,the winner clearly has a broken leg and was put down after the race..Read the post of the official..There were a number of riders dislodged from the horses you see continuing after the race but the winner was not one of them..
Jeez- poor horse and jockey. As to who ''won'', I just hope that the horse and rider survived without bad injury. The fallen horse was leading well, so if I was the judge, I would say ''let him have the prize''- not that winning means much to a horse, the money part anyway. they like to be in the lead, though.
LookED like a fantastic runner. He snapped a front leg, probably was put down immediately with an injury like that. I bet the horse had a problem before the race, and the trainer knew it. Happens all the time Injured horses get doped up with legal or illegal pain meds, raced, and they break down. Its a wonder the jockeys don't just plain refuse to ride, until punishments for this are much more severe than they are now.
jstrahan2 ,,,lol...get your own to eat....Good luck getting one to eat that is not loaded with just half of the known drugs that are given to horses...My 9 horses have been given many of these drugs at one time or another. I would not want to be responsible for making you sick. Many other horse owners are not so considerate & the meat inspectors & kill-buyers do not care- there are NO controls like with cattle & pigs ect. Support your small family farms & farmers markets..we care what you eat-we are eating it too!
Honestly most of the comments are about the placing and disqualification but almost no one is talking about the horse!? That's sad and disappointing, people.
The first horse race of the season, race 1,1:00 P.M.,my first time seeing a race live, and there was a sheet of ice under the water on the track.Just as the horses hit the last turn,3 horses slipped and spun out of control. Throwing the jockeys hard on the ice.In which they spun and slid. Leaving nasty burn marks from the friction. All 3 horses, never ran again, all were euthanized. Needless to say, this was my first racing experience. Later,I did become a jockey. Moved far away from that track.
Technically, the rider is supposed to be in saddle and can not stand up before the wire. Remember The Maestro and, was it, Shoemaker. In this case, the track seems to have a wet spot and the rider and horse still crossed the finish line first! I would give the win to them. And tell the owners to rectify the problem.
if the horse and jockey makes it they win. even if the horse or jockey dies after, its only fair to honor the race with them that won fairly. if the horses nose hits that finish line and the jockey is on it, they are entitled the victory.
Observing well the end of the race, i see that the rider detache himself from the horse before passing the final line, that is, the weight no longer affects the horse.
ouch that is a very bad break. It looks like his stifle exploded. The same thing happened to Ruffian. That also means that the horse probably won't race again. It is a sad thing when stuff like this happens.
The great filly Ruffian broke her front leg, not the stifle, which is like our kneecap, the horse in this clip also broke the front leg. They would have put him down. A lot of owners/trainers would not want to try to have the leg fixed.
I am not the poster, however I am the official who had the the task of deciding if this horse was awarded this race. In the end we were satisfied that at the time the nose of the horse that fell passed the winning post the jockey still was in contact with the horse via its reins and the outside horses nose had not yet reached the line as such the falling horses was a warded the race. Unfortunately the riderless horse you see is not the winner, the winner as many posters said but put down quickly after the race actually within 60 seconds of the incident, In Macau vets follow every race in a vehicle so that the horse whatever the incident receives immediate treatment. Again for other posters the vast majority of retired racehorses in Macau are sold to mainland China for use in the equestrian industry in China, if you ever watch show jumping or dressage televised from China the majority of horses have a Macau Jockey Club brand on their shoulder.
you cal that "contact with the horse"? that's a pretty generous call. the guy was thrown well off. and it seems hard to assess whether he was connected by the reins. Strange occurrence, but hard to see how the 9 wins.
You're actually right. They also get the TB's from America sadly... That's why the horses are turned into a dinner after they have "done their job." in a factory which lacks care and cleanliness.
From what I know in the past, some horses, and I'm not saying every single horse, gets injected with steroids. They stick their legs in ice water to reduce swelling. Many have to have surgery because they pulled a muscle. But I'm not saying every horse is treated like this. Some horses are lucky to have a wonderful trainer, while others.... should burn in hell.
Well,.. wasn't meaning to offend by assuming Japan. Yes, I have heard of Macau. Figured I'd been correct on the ruling too. Not sure if this would be anything that'd vary at all from one Country to the other. We should all be united in all rulings in horse racing! thanks for letting me know!
Sorry, have to disagree. I see the cannon bone was snapped and caused the horse to fall. The horse gets up and moves on 3 legs, but front left is waving around loose. Snapped. The horse was likely euthanized on the track before the next race. What race was this? Sad, but this does happen at races. Even this year at the Preakness there was a horse who had leg snap, then another collapsed after winning from heart giving out.
Ok its tragic for sure but putting that aside the jockey may have not hit the ground at the wire but the horse was clearly down before the wire so agree with the stewards on the disqualification.
Assuming this is in japan,... If the rules are the same there as US, the Jockey must maintain contact with the horse, as the horse crosses under the wire. Couldn't really see to tell if this jockey had held onto the reins or not. But this jock clearly had not maintaied contact with his mount. A very nasty spill on what appears to have been a very hard racing surface. What was the Officials ruling? I'm interested to know. If the racing rules are same as ours. I'd have to say, DQ.
My apologies if you misunderstood me, mate but here was no offence taken and I hope there was none the other way. I was just clarifying a point for you. You are right though...we should have universal rules in racing, or as close as we can get to them, but I think it's a long, long way off. (Especially between jurisdictions such as Hong Kong/Australia etc and Japan/Europe etc.)
TO adeakin,so many ex racehorse are sold to slaughter house,in hong kong, singapore, japan, because they are no longer productive and it costs a lot to keep a horse..There are very few people who are willing to give them a home unless they are a breeding proposition or they were an extremely good racehorse and kept by thier owners..
ouch! I really hope the horse is OK l....and rider. I hope they did get first place but I'm worrying more about if the horse was OK..and rider I don't think he's/her leg snaped because u saw he got up and raced agian the camera shown it. but I really hope they were all OK 😞😞😭😭
In certain countries they mostly end up in slaughter if they have become suddenly non-productive through injury. It is not cost effective to just keep them. There are few buyers for permanently lame horses. If the country does not have a good hunter/jumper or dressage or trail riding industry, there is just no more use for the horse.
Official result was to keep his first place, because the jockey was still holding the rein and not touching the ground at the finishing line
This happened in 1982 at Aqueduct as well, a horse broke down as it was crossing the wire in front, and was disqualified. Another horse did the same but it crossed first on a broken leg and was not disqualified; that horse was Emporias.

Tragedy aside, the rider was in contact with his mount crossing the finish line. No disqualification.
Tradegy aside! Not for the horse...I'm so glad someone won a few dollars, where they cashing in while the horse was dying...
Sarah, the horse may not of died as you can see it got up, immediately so perhaps it had a sprain.
WellConditioned
Did the horse stumble right before it fell!???
@@breyer4ever1000you can see the broken leg(s) when it stands up
his horses nose crossed the line first, give him the win, tend to the horse and allow him/her to retire a winner.
+rhino2960 But the rider was not on the horse so may not count as a win

that hurt just watching it. left front leg snapped midway down. brought back memories of 8 Bells'.
+Laurie Conway I sure do miss Eight Belles! What an awesome filly!
he won the race sure. he was acros the finish line first. fair and square, just unfortunately wasnt the best way to do it

Thats awesome horse racing. I love to ride my horse too. Here i come to support your channel.
Thanks for teaching me, from the replay the hand still in contact and had not touch the ground.
My Lord, that poor horse!
he was riding the horse and pushing him to hard for no reason he already has a big 7 length lead

that horse who fell was definitely the first to cross the finish line. No question for me.
What a win picture that must have been...

Honestly most of the comments are about the placing and disqualification but almost no one is talking about the horse!? That's sad and disappointing, people.
1:41 Butthooooole Butthooole Letchoo
The jockey was still in contact with the horse as the reigns are acknowledged as to be an integral part of a horse.
Ergo, the horse would win the race
Winner!!! NOSE CROSSED WIRE. JOCKEY NEVER TOUCHED GROUND AND WAS TOUCHING THE HORSE
the fix was in😂😂😂
It's in Macau, which is a Special Administrative Region of China. The commentary is on Cantonese. You are correct on the Disqualification, though.
The first horse race of the season, race 1,1:00 P.M.,my first time seeing a race live, and there was a sheet of ice under the water on the track.Just as the horses hit the last turn,3 horses slipped and spun out of control. If I had to choose on the aftermath I think should there looks like no interference to me
I feel bad for the horse. Really, really bad. I'm not sure did the horse have a heart attack or what?
I hate horse racing! A horse falls and DIES and then people are just like “Oh yeah, whatever what can we do”
This horse was a "winner" and if you check it was also destroyed that same day, some winner don't you like the prize?
Thats a very close call.the decision to disqualify or award the fallen horse the winner could have gone either way..tragic about the fallen horse..
but the jockey was not aboard at the finish line. he was thrown off already, so no victory for him or the horse.
In the rallenty it looks like the track where the horse fall down was extremely soft. Is it only my impression ?
No its not it is actually rather hard and the rider probably suffered broken bones and the horse was most likely put down due to injuries.
+helema23 Yes :( It looks like the poor animal broke its leg
it seems fine to me but it might be softer than it should be
Technically, the rider is supposed to be in saddle and can not stand up before the wire. Remember The Maestro and, was it, Shoemaker. In this case, the track seems to have a wet spot and the rider and horse still crossed the finish line first! I would give the win to them. And tell the owners to rectify the problem.
the jockey goes across the finish line before the horse!!

That horse # 3 won that race !
Is the ground okay?
The jockey has to be in the saddle to win.
Observing well the end of the race, i see that the rider detache himself from the horse before passing the final line, that is, the weight no longer affects the horse.
That jocky should have let go of the reins after flipping, he probably dragged the horse's face through a lot of dirt by holding on.
Well if the rules state the rider has to be mounted then he is disqualified... What a weird accident? I hope horse and rider are okay.
I can only understand english
ouch that is a very bad break. It looks like his stifle exploded. The same thing happened to Ruffian. That also means that the horse probably won't race again. It is a sad thing when stuff like this happens.

Racing should be like endurance sport, NO competition until the age of 5. That would slow down the list of injuries and the over breeding.
horse tripped over it's shoe laces.
at least he won.

The problem is, they are RIDDEN TOO YOUNG, and the basic schooling is not long and good enough!

The jockey broke the hart of that champion
He was should be take that win with a easy way no pushing hard no havy wipe
I wonder what horse will win?
The horse while falling, still crossed the finish line first, therefore is clearly the winner.
The jockey and the horse need to be in contact with each other as they cross the line but they are not so it should not win the race.
The poster had written to me and told me it'd been in fact a DQ if this is a help to you!
This is a definite win..
What was the odds off that :)
Oh... that's awful - left front leg snapped.
No it didn't ...it was still cantering on after it got up...
Sorry, have to disagree. I see the cannon bone was snapped and caused the horse to fall. The horse gets up and moves on 3 legs, but front left is waving around loose. Snapped.
I hope they did get first place but I'm worrying more about if the horse was OK..and rider I don't think he's/her leg snaped because u saw he got up and raced agian the camera shown it. but I really hope they were all OK 😞😞😭😭
well that's one way to finish a race
In certain countries they mostly end up in slaughter if they have become suddenly non-productive through injury. It is not cost effective to just keep them. There are few buyers for permanently lame horses. If the country does not have a good hunter/jumper or dressage or trail riding industry, there is just no more use for the horse.
